SwiftKey, the popular keyboard replacement app, is now updating to version 4.3, which brings new keyboard layouts that can be undocked, moved, and resized.

After spending some time in beta, SwiftKey 4.3 is now ready for prime time. The new version unifies the tablet and smartphone versions, meaning that you won't have to bother with two apps anymore. That's possible thanks to the new Layouts for Living keyboard formats, which adapt to any screen size and any preference.

The three keyboard layouts in SwiftKey 4.3 are the classic Full mode, the Thumb mode, which separates the keys into two groups for easy thumb typing on large smartphones and tablets, and the Compact mode, a narrow format that moves all the keys closer to a side of the device, for easier one hand typing. The three layouts can be resized, undocked, and even moved around the screen, a feature that should be especially handy for entering text on tablets and other large devices.

Here's a quick demo of the new Layouts for Living in SwiftKey 4.3 from my colleague Joe Hindy:

The update also brings Canadian English to the 61-strong catalog of languages available in SwiftKey.

SwiftKey 4.3 (Play Store link) is a free update for users of either of the previous versions, but if you want to purchase it, now may be a good time to do it, provided you're in one of the countries where the app is currently on a 50 percent off sale: UK, France, Spain, Italy, Germany, Australia, Russia, and New Zealand. For users in other markets, Black Friday is just around the corner, and we wouldn't be surprised to see SwiftKey celebrate it with a price cut. The app regularly goes for a reasonable $3.99.
