The CyanogenMod team has already started work on CyanogenMod 11 (Android 4.4 KitKat) although we're yet to see a working ROM out in the wild for users to try out.

The team posted on Google+ an update on "CM 11 initialization," saying that certain features have survived the jump from Android 4.3, although that doesn't mean a CM 11 release date is available:

A lot of our features survived the jump, while a handful didn't. Our next steps will be to work on bringing up the items that didn't merge cleanly (assuming we need them anymore). Notable items impacted here are Trebuchet, Phone app and Lockscreen.

In a follow up update, the team posted the repo init URL (see Source links below,) so those advanced Android users can already toy with it.

Android 4.4 KitKat is only available on the Nexus 5 officially, but several ports have already been posted for various devices including the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 (2012 and 2013), HTC One and Xperia Z.

However, Google and OEMs are yet to release official Android 4.4 KitKat for other devices.

That said, whether or not you're comfortable with installing custom ROMs on your device, such as CyanogenMod's, we don't encourage you to do so and remind you that whatever happens with your devices during such procedures will fall under your responsibility.

We'll be back with more details CM 11 once we have them.
