HTC Golf appears in Wild, will be out later this year

HTC amazed us at the Mobile World Congress by introducing a bunch of new Android powered phones, like the HTC One X, S and V. All of them are undoubtedly brilliant devices, but it seems HTC still got some stuff in their bag. Almost 2 months ago, an Android powered HTC device was leaked as HTC Golf, and we also saw its leaked shot a few days ago, and the phone looked like a small version of the One S, but we can't put our money on a press shot, right?

Now ITProPortal managed to get their hands on an image of HTC Golf rolling in wild, and phone seems like an 'upgraded' version of the Wildfire series. It got looks from the One S but it features 3.5-inch HVGA screen, 4GB storage, a 5MP camera, ICS and HTC Sense 4. Good to see that it's running the latest OS along with Sense 4.

What's also new here is that the device might be known as HTC Desire C, that's what the source is reporting. They believe that this device might bring back the 'Desire' series, however it's still not confirmed. I personally don't think so HTC will go back; what I think is that HTC will also launch it under their recently launched 'One Series', it could be launched as HTC One C or any other alphabet, except X, S and V.

Readers, let's wait for the green light from HTC and hope they will spill some beans about this little guy. We hope to see it around later this year, and it might hit regional carriers of US as well, so if it lands in the States, are you planning to pick it? Tell us in the comment box below.

Verizon Launching Droid RAZR in Blue, available nationwide on May 17th

Droid RAZR was launched by Verizon Wireless last year, and we all know that it's one of the most sexiest devices ever launched by Motorola. It seems that Verizon is still selling the Droid RAZR like hot cakes and now they are bringing in a new colour to change the trend a little bit. Today, Verizon officially confirmed the blue Droid RAZR which is available in select stores right now, and it will be available nationwide on May 17th. 

Motorola RAZR series was launched back in 2005 and they were 'superphones' of their time. However, they are now replaced by the Droid RAZR, the smartphone of today. Back then, Motorola launched the RAZR in variety of colours, and the Droid RAZR is also available in different colours and a model as well i.e. RAZR MAXX.

The device will be available for $99 with a two-year contract. Everything is same under the hood like a 1.2Ghz dual-core TI OMAP processor, 1GB of RAM, 4.3-inch AMOLED QHD display, 16GB of storage space and an 8MP camera. The only sad thing is that it's still running on Gingerbread.

Samsung SPH-L300 leaked, headed to Sprint?

Samsung Galaxy S III was launched a few days ago and we know that it will be coming to the States soon, and they are chances that Sprint will be carrying it, but that's not the only device Sprint is planning to launch. Sprint is also planning to launch Samsung SPH-L300, which is an Android 4.0 powered device featuring the same dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor. BriefMobile leaked the shot of the SPH-L300 and the device looks pretty decent. It will be featuring Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, measuring 121 x 63 x 12 mm, and a WVGA display with unknown size (probably around 4-inch), 5MP rear camera, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of ROM, NFC and Bluetooth 4.0.

LG LS970 ‘Eclipse’ leaks with quadcore Krait chipset

LG is known for its scoops: They were the first with a dualcore phone, the first with a 3D phone and they've done it yet again. Although the software leaves us wanting something better most of the times, we have to say: Using a quad core krait processor promises some pretty darn impressive (benchmark) results.

Having four cores doesn't tell the full story though: Why would this chipset, the MSM8064 be any better than the Tegra3? Well: It uses a brand new GPU, the Adreno 320, the Krait architecture is bloody fast and the manufacturing process is 28nm which means there is less powerconsumption and heat generation.

The leaked specifications list also promises 16 Gigabits of RAM, which translates to 2GB. The resolution is 1280x768 on a 4.67" screen, on par with the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Nexus.

Android 4.0 starts rolling out for German Galaxy Notes

Owners of a German Galaxy Note, rejoice! Samsung has quietly started the roll-out of Android 4.0, dubbed version number LPY, to German branded Galaxy Notes. Although you don't necessarily have to own a German Note, your model number should be N7000 in order to install the update.

We decided to immediately give it a spin but there was just one minor problem: None of our Notes are German. And that's where CheckFus comes in handy: This program allows you to download official firmwares for basically all Samsung devices -- including Bada. The downloaded files then need to be decrypted using the same program and flashed through Odin.

So, that's what we did and after a few minutes of booting, we were greeted by the familiar Touchwiz launcher. Yes, Touchwiz is still included, omnipresent and the update is almost identical to the Galaxy S II. Speed improved a little, and according to Tweakers.net graphics have also improved. The most apparent changes are in the S Pen software though. In addition to the S Memo app, there is now S Note, a more extended and improved version of S Memo. For those who are not quite ready to let go of S Memo, it is still included. The browser has received a minor speedbump but hey, you'll probably be using Chrome anyway.

A long wished feature was hovering with the S Pen to reveal pull down menus in, say, websites. Yes, that's also included.

Should you install the update? Definately, there is no harm in slapping a little Touchwiz-flavored ICS on your Note. For you purists, there is an unofficial and experimental version of CM9 as well.

LG LS970 Peeks Its Head Again, This Time Brings “Eclipse” Name & Confirms Quad-Core Krait CPU

There is a new development in the LG LS970 saga. When we last heard about the device, it was rumored to feature an LTE chip inside and be Sprint-bound. We now have some additional details highlighting the juicy specs of the device. We knew the device would likely feature a quad-core processor— but it’s not a TI-based chip as we previously thought. Instead the superphone will feature a APQ8064 chipset… a Snapdragon S4 Krait processor in other words. That’s not all either… the chipset will be coupled with the Adreno 320 GPU, which is slated to bring bleeding edge performance. To wrap this impressive package up, the device will include 2GB of RAM (!!!), a 4.67-inch WXGA display and a 13MP camera with 1.3MP ffc squeezed into a device which will only be 8.6mm thick. The rear of the device is has design which seems to favor the Motorola RAZR (though there’s an unsightly hump over the camera). One thing to note is the leaked shot of the phone seems to have an obvious hole, which may possibly be meant to test the device’s radio such as the LTE modem or its GPS.

While the device is still identified as “G” internally, there is word that the device may end up being known as the “Eclipse 4G LTE” smartphone and will be released around the 4th quarter of this year. Well folks, it looks like we’re about to usher in the new era of the superphone. I just hope you all are ready…

Check Out Asus PadFone’s Real World Battery Life

Back at MWC this year Asus debuted its PadFone tablet/phone combination with much fanfare. In April pre-orders were available in Taiwan with hopes that the U.S. would soon be able to do the same. Well sadly as is with most technologies the device was delayed with the S4 processor shortage being the possible culprit as to why. Well in a “leaked” video on Asus’ YouTube that has now been taken down Asus went as far as to boast about the PadFone’s battery life. According to the video the phone itself will see 16 hours of use where the the tablet mode and laptop modes should see 63 and 102 hours respectively. According to the folks at engadget though, Asus said that this is in regards to 2G talk time.

Asus was awesome enough though in sharing some of the more realistic battery life figures they’ve found in a lab setting. When the device was set at half brightness it came up with the following results:

 

WIFI browsing-

  • phone mode – 2.6 hours
  • tablet mode – 10.7 hours
  • laptop mode – 17 hours
3G browsing -
  • phone mode – 2.1 hours
  • tablet mode – 8.9 hours
  • laptop mode – 14.1 hours

As you can see the battery life isn’t really that exciting but with a 1520mAh battery that is to be expected. However these are actual use numbers rather than the “up to” numbers that device manufacturers like to put out. Even though the device is slated to release “soon” we still have some time to wait. If you’re itching to be the first on your block with a shiny new Galaxy S III, then look no further than Expansys import web shop. Of course this GSIII will only be able to work on T-Mobile and AT&T here in the U.S. but you can now pre-order one for a sizable wad of cash to the amount of $694.99 plus shipping. If you ask me, that’s a lot of laundry money to shell out just to be one of the first to show off Sammy’s latest and greatest Android smartphone, especially because we know that Samsung intends to release the phone in the U.S. later this summer. European Parliament Votes To Regulate Roaming Price Cap From Mobile Carriers

Relief is on the way for those of you across the pond who enjoy traveling, but loathe roaming prices from mobile carriers. As Europeans already know, mobile networks are allowed to charge whatever fee they want for phone calls, text messages and data when roaming in other countries. So for some individuals, they are greeted with a “shock bill” when returning home from a holiday— a massive cellular bill due to charges that a cell phone user may be unaware of. The European Union has taken note of this and the Parliament has voted to place a cap on all roaming charges for mobile subscribers. The move is meant to reduce the overall cost of using your phone when you’re out of your home country.

The new caps are set to begin in July and will impose a set cap for users. Rates will be limited to 24p per minute for calls and 58p per megabyte for data. The Parliament hasn’t stopped there either as it plans to allow cellphone users to pick which network they wish to roam with rather than be restricted to the network chosen by their main cellphone carrier. The end hope of this new regulation? Fairness and equilibrium by 2015.

It’s a small, but significant victory for all mobile subscribers in Europe, isn’t it?

CEO of HTC Pete Chou will carry the torch in the 2012 Olympics

As the heading says, Peter Chou, CEO of HTC has been given the honor along with 8,000 other to be named a torchbearer during the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. Chou was chosen for this opportunity because of his outstanding contribution to the worldwide mobile industry. HTC Corp has presented to it’s consumers great mobile devices over the years, and had put the Taiwanese smartphone company on the map as a top global leader in mobile technology.

South Korea to get Samsung SHV-E170K with LTE, Yet another Galaxy S II variant

It seems crazy that another Galaxy S II variant would release now with the Galaxy S III releasing in a couple of weeks, but Samsung is doing just that. The SHV-E170K is going to be an LTE device and have the latest chipset and a high-capacity battery according to Korea Telecom. They didn’t tell us anything else, but SammyHub found a GLBenchmark and another Korean site that tells us it will have a 4.3-inch (960 x 540) Super AMOLED display, a dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, a 5MP rear-facing camera, 1.3MP front-facing camera, and Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich.

We should see the SHV-E170K later this month around the same time as the Galaxy S III.
