With Android 4.4′s KitKat being all the rave at the moment, leaks seem to be coming in weekly. Today, KitKat’s proposed messaging and phone app have leaked and right off that bat you can see that Google has changed the color scheme of Android up a a bit as compared to ICS’s and JB’s blue/grey hue. I for one like the new look and the screenshots indicate that the status bar also changes color in conjunction of what app you’re currently on. Definitely a nice touch in my opinion.

KitKat recently released a video showing a contest they held which involved winners sitting on a KitKat-branded bench at a certain time in order to win a Nexus 7. Great idea by the company, as they continue to do their part to market the upcoming Android 4.4 KitKat OS. It’s a pretty simple concept, although the video may have overdone it a bit. Check it out for yourself below.

There’s been a bit of drama the past few days throughout the Android community, ever since the announcement of Cyanogen Inc. Here at Phandroid, we haven’t been reporting on the drama, because no one needs that soap opera crap clogging up their favorite Android news site. If you aren’t aware, CyanogenMod’s Focal camera app has been pulled from the open source ROM. The developer behind the app, Guillaume Lesniak, has decided to put his Focal camera app on the Google Play Store for all to download and use. No longer will you need to be on CyanogenMod to use this full featured camera.

The app is currently in beta, but does come with a lot of features you’d expect in a camera app. You can take burst shots, set timers, change scene modes, add camera effects, change lighting settings, there’s an Auto Awesome tool, and it even includes a PhotoSphere replacement called PicSphere.

Focal is fully open source (GPL) and developers can download Focal’s source over on GitHub.

If you’re not fully satisfied with the camera app on your current phone, it’s worth taking a look at Focal. Just please remember, it is beta. Plenty of bugs do exist and will get squashed as time goes on.

Global rollout of BBM for Android on hold

Leaked version caused issues, BB working hard to get things back on track

BlackBerry has finally given a statement on the status of the BBM rollout for users on Android and iOS, and it looks like things are on hold for the time being. BlackBerry is saying the leaked versions people were using has caused "issues" and that they are hard at work to get things back on track.

Prior to launching BBM for Android, an unreleased version of the BBM for Android app was posted online. The interest and enthusiasm we have seen already – more than 1.1 million active users in the first 8 hours without even launching the official Android app – is incredible. Consequently, this unreleased version caused issues, which we have attempted to address throughout the day.

Our teams continue to work around the clock to bring BBM to Android and iPhone, but only when it’s ready and we know it will live up to your expectations of BBM. We are pausing the global roll-out of BBM for Android and iPhone. Customers who have already downloaded BBM for iPhone will be able to continue to use BBM. The unreleased Android app will be disabled, and customers who downloaded it should visit www.BBM.com to register for updates on official BBM for Android availability.

As soon as we are able, we will begin a staggered country roll-out of BBM for Android and continue the roll-out of BBM for iPhone. Please follow @BBM on Twitter for the latest updates and go to www.BBM.com to sign-up for updates about BBM for Android and iPhone. These issues have not impacted BBM service for BlackBerry.

If you're one of the folks using the leaked version you'll probably want to uninstall it before BlackBerry does whatever they are going to do to disable it. And of course, if you're wanting to get up and running with BBM on Android, follow the directions above and register for updates.
