AT&T 4G LTE now available in 400 markets Sep 13th 2013, 15:54, by Robert Nelson Earlier today we learned that T-Mobile now has 4G LTE service available for more than 180 million people across 154 markets. And while that is a nice step up for T-Mobile (as compared to their previous status update), it also looks like AT&T has continued making progress towards their end-of-year goals. In fact, AT&T now has 4G LTE available in 400 markets. To that point, those 400 markets translate into having 4G LTE available for “nearly” 240 million people. Further details point towards AT&T having 4G LTE services available for 270 million people by the end of 2013. Looking forward into next year and we see comments from AT&T about how they expect the 4G LTE build to be “substantially complete by summer 2014.” Otherwise, AT&T also took this 400 market announcement as time to say that more than 35 percent of the postpaid subscribers are now using a 4G LTE capable device. Perhaps more important for the present time though, this 400 market announcement also came with word of new coverage. AT&T has rolled out coverage for those in Alexander City, Alabama; Concord, New Hampshire and Jamestown, New York. In addition, coverage has also been expanded for those in Fresno, San Francisco and Stockton, California; Washington DC; Springfield, Missouri; Columbus, Ohio; Nashville, Tennessee; Houston, Texas, Seattle and Tacoma, Washington and Charleston, West Virginia. In addition to new LTE coverage, AT&T has also been steadily rolling out new devices. The LG G2 recently arrived and we also learned the Metallic Blue HTC One will be available (for AT&T) by way of Best Buy on September 15. Aside from smartphones, AT&T recently released the ASUS MeMO Pad FHD LTE 10.0 tablet earlier in the month. At the time the handset was referred to as being a DROID ULTRA and that was later confirmed to be an Employee Edition model. Well, it looks like the handset has slipped into the wild with an option for non-employees to make a purchase. That being said, those heading to the Verizon Wireless website would still be greeted with an employee only message. Instead this model has recently begun showing up on auction sites. Namely eBay, and as one would expect — there is a big premium to pay if you want this limited edition DROID ULTRA with red-racing stripe. The prices all appear to be sitting well above the $500 mark and for that you would be getting a serial numbered handset that was intended to be used only be Verizon employees. Aside from the red-stripe on the back and the serial number, the handset will be the same in terms of specs. That is to say you will still be getting a handset with a 5-inch 1280 x 720 display, dual-core 1.7GHz processor and 10 megaixel “clear pixel” camera. Of course, the handset will be running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and also sporting the Kevlar casing. The DROID ULTRA was a handset that we spent a bit of time with shortly after the release. The video sitting above gives a look at the non-employee edition of the DROID ULTRA and those looking for more detail should make sure to check out the full review which included everything from talk of the processor to talk of the camera including image and video samples. All that being said, we do have to wonder which handset these employees have decided to stick with. After all, a frequent complaint seems to circle around battery life and as we have seen with the DROID ULTRA — this model is sporting a 2130 mAh battery that should be able to get most everyone through a full work day with little worry. This latest teaser mirrors what we have been seeing with the earlier videos. Basically, that is to say the video is short and offers little in terms of solid details. Then again, it does appear as if OPPO has shown the overall shape of the handset. The image sitting above is showing what could be the exterior lines of the handset. Otherwise, this video (which has arrived as trailer #4) has also offered a brief look a the manufacturing process. And this time around they provided an ever-so-brief look at the internals of the handset. As we mentioned yesterday with video number three, it appears as if OPPO has once again recent the countdown timer. They haven’t said how many episodes will be included in this series of teasers, but it is looking like the next video will be arriving in 3 days. Aside from the teasing, OPPO has previously said they will be announcing the N1 on September 23. In addition to the confirmation of the announcement date, OPPO has also confirmed a few details of the handset. Much of the rumors have focused on the camera, but we have yet to see much in the way of confirmation coming from OPPO on that subject. What they have said in regards to the camera was that it will be “amazing.” OPPO has confirmed the size of the display at 5.9-inches. And taking that a step further, rumors are suggesting that it will be a 1080p display. HTC One Max branding surfaces Sep 13th 2013, 16:33, by Kevin Krause We’ve been hearing buzz of the HTC One Max phablet for some time now, but the handset has yet to officially surface. If you are beginning to give up hope, here’s a little something to bide you over. @evleaks has released the handset’s official branding. It’s pretty much everything you might have expected. What we see is more or less an HTC One logo with an extra word at an end. The most interesting aspect is the decision to turn the word “max” into a subscript. Logic would say the word might be emphasized. It does say MAX after all. But that’s splitting hairs. Many expected this would have been unveiled a couple of weeks ago at IFA, the same show that brought us another phablet, the Samsung Galaxy S3. Alas, we’re still waiting. [via @evleaks]

Here are another two shots of the One Max, fingerprint sensor and all Sep 13th 2013, 15:18, by Bogdan Petrovan HTC is widely expected to unveil its own Note 3 competitor this fall, with company reps, including North America communications boss Jeff Gordon, all but acknowledging its existence. We already have a pretty complete idea of what the HTC One Max will look like, but another leak can't hurt, right? Especially since said leak seems to confirm the presence of a fingerprint scanner on the back of the device, a feature that has been in the spotlight since Apple announced the Touch ID-equipped iPhone 5s earlier this week. The images below were posted on the Chinese social network Weibo and made it to us thanks to the folks at Dutch website Mobileaks. According to the user who posted them, this may actually be an HTC One prototype, possibly of the variant destined to land in the Chinese market. The leaked images don't reveal any new info, but they are helpful for judging the size of the oversized Max compared to the regular HTC One. Also, all the design details, from the fingerprint reader below the camera to the three-dot connector on the right hand side, seem to match up with earlier rumors, lending credibility to the leak. The HTC One Max will feature a 5.9-inch LCD display and will presumably be powered by a Snapdragon 800 processor clocked at 2.3GHz, along with 2GB of RAM. Expect to see all the cachet features of the HTC One (which we just saw in a champagne gold paint job) such as BoomSound, UltraPixels camera, and BlinkFeed. You can now root the Moto X (all networks), Motorola Droid Ultra, MAXX, and Mini Sep 13th 2013, 15:54, by Ankit Banerjee A couple of days back, we reported that root access has been achieved for the Verizon version of the Moto X, thanks to the efforts of Justin Case (aka @TeamAndIRC). He has continued his amazing work, and now, the Moto X on all networks, including AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, US Cellular, and Rogers, along with the Motorola Droid Ultra, MAXX, and Mini, can all be rooted, with a simple one-tap app, called MotoRoot. All you have to do is download the correct apk file that matches your device, install and run it, and tap “Setup,” and you’re done! The phone will reboot, and once it reboots completely, you will have root access. You can then download the SuperSU app from the Google Play Store. You will need to keep the MotoRoot app installed, as uninstalling it will break root, but can easily be done again by re-installing the app. The app also includes an “unroot” option as well. As simple as this process is, remember that rooting your device does have some risks, and a general technical know-how is recommended. Also, rooting your device may lead to your warranty being voided. Don’t forget to make sure that you download the correct apk file corresponding to your device, and keep in mind that in the case of the Moto X, devices from different carriers require different files.
