Samsung's WTF-worthy curved smartphone in full rendered glory Oct 8th 2013, 22:08, by Dustin Earley Both the Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus could be considered curved Samsung smartphones, but they’ve both got nothing on the curved smartphone evleaks is saying is the real deal. Making its first appearance with nothing but the words “do not adjust your display” attached, evleaks’ has provided the world with a render rumored to be Samsung’s upcoming curved smartphone. Going by the model number SM-G910S, evleaks is calling the device “strictly a Korean curiosity, for now.” And you can probably see why. Where the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus were curved for enhanced usability, to better rest against the natural curves of your face, the SM-G910S is a monster among freaks. The device is curved vertically, with the left and right edges folding up to form the smartphone equivalent of a half-pipe, taco shell, rolling paper, luge track. After looking at the renders, you have to wonder how Samsung plans to sell this thing. Perhaps in their home-country of Korea, simply being first to market with a curved smartphone will be enough, but we can’t imagine this thing catching on worldwide. Other than the curved display, it appears to feature LTE-Advanced, and borrows heavily from the design of the Note 3. Fake stitching and all. Just yesterday, PhoneArea cited asiae.co.kr as saying Samsung would release a device similar in specs to the Galaxy Note 3, in limited quanities in Korea, called the Galaxy Round. It’s starting to look like that report is spot on. We’ll keeping digging for more info on the SM-G910S, or the Galaxy Round, but until then, we’re dying to know what you think. Gallery

Google Shopping product search results will now be localized on mobile Oct 8th 2013, 23:24, by Andrew Martonik Creating a more seamless shopping experience on mobile Google is working to make its search result ad experience better, and the next step is to make sure ad offerings are localized to where you're performing the search. Google Shopping, the ad service that gives sponsored search results when searching for products, will now be localized on the web with better information based on your location. For example when searching for a product, you may see an ad for the specific product you want — tapping on that product takes you to a full page called a "local storefront" within the search where you see more information. AT&T to launch first VoLTE-capable handset this year Oct 8th 2013, 23:04, by Andrew Martonik LTE to cover 300 million POPs by end of 2014, LTE Advanced just a software upgrade away AT&T expects that the holiday season may be the right time to launch its first device capable of using VoLTE. According to statements made by Krish Prabhu, president of AT&T Labs, the carrier expects that it can have a "VoLTE-compliant device" ready by the end of the year. He went on to say that the carrier is working on the network side of VoLTE upgrades to enable the use of the new voice technology. Once completed, the move to VoLTE will enable HD voice calls as long as both parties are using a VoLTE device. Unfortunately those upgrades may take some time — AT&T plans to complete its initial rollout of nationwide LTE by the end of 2014, with a commercial launch of VoLTE in the same timeframe. read more

AT&T HTC One now receiving Android 4.3 over-the-air update Oct 8th 2013, 23:15, by Chris Chavez Well, that wasn’t much of a wait now, was it? After HTC’s US President promised that, although slightly behind schedule, Android 4.3 for the HTC One would be rolling out soon on AT&T (and T-Mobile). Today, that update has officially gone live. Software build 3.17.502.3 is already rolling out on AT&T, with HTC One users making the jump from Android 4.1.2, all the way up to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. One users can look forward to new quick toggles from Android 4.2, as well as a few new Sense 5 tricks, and low light camera improvements. Of course, there’s also Android 4.3 optimizations under the hood. Got an AT&T HTC One? Feel free to jump into your Settings > About phone > Software updates to manually pull the update to your device if you haven’t been prompted. The HTC One forums are already kicking off with One users giving feedback on the update (like any bugs they’ve encountered). So if you’re having troubles, head over here. Android 4.3 update for HTC One rolling out to AT&T customers now Oct 8th 2013, 22:12, by Nate Swanner We knew it was coming, but now it's here. AT&T HTC One users, your devices are being upgraded to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. While HTC has been a little later to the game than we thought, they've begun rolling the update out to users as we speak. Jason Mackenzie, HTC Americas president, mentioned the update via twitter, noting that it was available via AT&T. The newest version of Android will be software version 3.17.502.3 for HTC One owners. As with the developer edition, the newest version promises to bring some much needed updates to Sense 5, and AT&T users won't have to wait as long as some others. T-Mobile subscribers are set to get the update a few weeks from now, with Verizon customers waiting even longer. This update could also mean that the HTC One Max, set for release sometime in the near future, may come with Android 4.3 and the updated Sense 5.0 out of the box. Time will tell on that front, but if you have an HTC One, feel free to check for your update if you haven't seen it yet. The vague "bug fixes" was the only thing listed in the changelog for both apps, but many users are reporting that both are now compatible with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. We can confirm that the HBO GO app is now available for download on the Nexus 7 2013, where as it wasn't before the update. The above screenshot is from the newest Nexus tablet, running stock Android 4.3. It works just as well as before, with playback running smoothly and the app functionality the same. What isn't included is something many users desperately want, and that's Chromecast support. Though Hulu Plus has recently begun including Chromecast streaming into their app, neither the HBO or Cinemax apps have done so. When the Chromecast came out, we learned of HBO tinkering with the functionality for their app, but we still go wanting. HBO also made some of their original programming available on the Play Store yesterday, so those who have cut the cable cord can still get some great shows. We can only hope that Chromecasting is on its way, and that making their app available across most Android devices is a precursor for it.
