| Verizon Moto X root method arrives for the daring Nov 3rd 2013, 12:29, by Robert Nelson Rooting the Verizon Moto X has been proven possible in the past, however a patch for a previous exploit was released with a recent over-the-air update. But in the always fun to watch game of cat and mouse, the rooting community has stepped forward with another option for Verizon Moto X users looking to have a rooted handset. This one comes by way of jcase and will work even with the most recent camera software update in place. 
That being said, while this is available and can be done — the process is not one that everyone is going to want to tackle. To that point, event the folks at RootzWiki have described it as being “not for the faint of heart.” There is a long and complicated set of directions, and in addition, you will need adb installed on your computer. Just to clarify, you will also need to know how to use adb. Not to mention, be comfortable with telnet as well. With that we suspect some have decided to keep their handset the way it is — non-rooted. But those who feel the need to have root, make sure you proceed with caution and read everything a few times before beginning the process. Better safe than sorry. Anyway, while we aren’t going to list the full run down of steps here, we can say things begin by installing a program called Cydia Impactor. From here you find the IP address of your phone (using adb) and the use that to pushy the exploit to your device. After that you use Cydia Impactor to telnet into your device and get this, run the exploit three times. It was said that each time you run it you will be given a different result — this is one point where carefully reading the directions will come in very handy. Otherwise, from that point you wait for su to install and then move onto running SuperSU from the Play Store. And during all this, hopefully nothing locks up or goes wrong otherwise. SOURCE: RootzWiki |  | Android 4.4 Kit Kat arrives unofficially for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Nov 3rd 2013, 12:17, by Robert Nelson Following the launch of the Nexus 5 and Android 4.4 Kit Kat, Google offered some details in terms of which Nexus devices were going to get an update. That list included the usual suspects such as the Nexus 7 and 10 tablets as well as the Nexus 4 smartphone, however there was one device left missing — the Galaxy Nexus. Basically, the Galaxy Nexus has reached the end-of-line in terms of updates. 
Officially, the handset will remain at Android 4.3 Jelly Bean. Though, in this case we are looking towards the always slow-to-update Verizon Galaxy Nexus. Similar to how we have seen unofficial builds arrive for this model in the past, the community has come forward with a quick release of Android 4.4 Kit Kat. The files can all be found in a RootzWiki forum post. Specifically, the ROM has been released by baldwinguy77 and this isn’t his first time offering goodies for Verizon Galaxy Nexus users. In this case the ROM is called “Shiny” and is Android 4.4 KRT16M. The ROM is said to be running well and bug free, but as with any third party ROM, there may be a small bug or two discovered if this becomes your daily driver. Anyway, as for the ROM, this one is said to be over-the-air like. Basically, that means things are pretty close to how you would expect them if it were to have come direct from Google and Verizon Wireless. This ROM is not rooted by default and does contain both the standard Verizon apps and the Google apps. But in the end, if you are still rocking a Verizon Galaxy Nexus — this is your option to bring a little Kit Kat to your device. VIA: Twitter @RootzWiki | | Nexus 8 possibly hidden in plain site on Google Android site Nov 3rd 2013, 12:02, by Robert Nelson Google launched the Nexus 5 last week, and as a result, the official Android site also got a bit of a refresh. In this we are are looking towards the “Apps & Entertainment” page, which when visited, has a father and daughter sitting in an airport with a Nexus 7. But those scrolling down will get a look at something else, something that appears to be an unannounced Nexus tablet. 
First thought of hearing that would be the Nexus 10, but the device in question appears to be smaller than 10-inches. It also doesn’t appear to be the Nexus 7. The device details are obviously at a minimum here and we are shifting to a case of pure speculation. But that being said, the tablet does appear to have a small bezel running around the display and it also appears to be running Kit Kat. Thought here is that Google has shown a Nexus 8 tablet. This isn’t the first time Google quietly revealed a device without explanation. If you remember back, we first saw the Nexus 5 in a video released by Google. The hope here is that Google has done the same with a Nexus 8 tablet. Though, if an 8-inch Nexus tablet is coming, where does that leave the Nexus 10? This brings plenty of question, but it could be a case of Google shifting to a three tablet strategy. A Nexus 7, Nexus 8 and Nexus 10. And in an attempt to connect the dots here, an 8-inch tablet would fit. After all, we did see the LG-V510 tablet appear in a Bluetooth SIG filing about a week ago.
