Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom for AT&T launches November 8th for $200 Nov 4th 2013, 15:56, by Quentyn Kennemer AT&T has officially announced availability for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom, the point-and-shoot smartphone camera that will make many casual photographers happy. The device is launching November 8th for $200, a price that will obviously come with the need to sign a new two-year contract agreement. You can take the AT&T Next approach, of course, which gives you the phone for $25 a month (no down payment) and the option to upgrade after one year. The 16 megapixel backside-illuminated CMOS sensor is outfitted with 10X optical zoom, which is something quite unheard of for a smartphone. It also has the oft-preferred Xenon flash. This wouldn’t be the first phone with such a camera, but it is the first time a mainstream option from a mainstream company has entered the fold. Non-camera specs for the Galaxy S4 Zoom include a 4.3-inch qHD display, a Pega-Dual +XMM6262 processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage (expandable up to 64GB using a microSD card), Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi N, NFC and more. It should launch with Android 4.2 Jelly Bean from the start, and will have Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface sitting on top. It reads like an entry-level phone through and through, though we’re sure that sweet sensor on the back is going to reel in many folks at the point of sale. Samsung W2014 brings the power of Snapdragon 800 into a flip phone form factor, costs over $1,500 Nov 4th 2013, 15:14, by Andrew Grush It's 2013 and for most of us, the flip-phone has become nothing more than a relic of the past. In select parts of Asia things are quite different, however. Particularly in China, Samsung-made Android-powered clamshell devices have actually done quite well in recent years. This success even led Samsung to release the Galaxy Golden Android flip-phone in its home country of South Korea. Now Samsung is gearing up for a new flip phone aimed at the Chinese market, an extremely high-end luxury device that one-ups even the Galaxy S4 in terms of hardware, with the exception of the displays. The new SCH-W2014 is powered by a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU with 2GB RAM. Other specs include 32GB storage, 13MP main cam, 2MP front cam, and dual-SIM support. On the not so impressive side, the device's two displays are just 3.7-inch Super AMOLEDs with resolutions of 800 x 480. Considering the specs, you'd think this bad boy would retail for somewhere around maybe $500 or $600. Nope, China Telecom intends to introduce the SCH-W2014 at a price of roughly $1,640. If you think that's expensive, last year's flagship clamshell model (SCHW-W2013) retailed for well over $2,500. Samsung has been producing clamshell Android devices for years now, but so far has yet to consider the possibility of launching such a device globally. IF Samsung ever did bring a clamshell model over to your local market, would you be interested – provided the price was more in-line with similarly spec'd devices? Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom Android camera gets official on AT&T Nov 4th 2013, 15:26, by Phil Nickinson AT&T this morning announced that the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom — an Android-powered camera with LTE data — will be available on its network starting Nov. 8. It'll run $199 with a two-year contract, or $25 a month if you sign up for AT&T Next. The camera-phone hybrid has been around for a few months now. Here's how Alex Dobie put things in his full Galaxy S4 Zoom review: "The Galaxy S4 Zoom's hardware is best described as a head-on collision between the Galaxy S4 Mini and the Galaxy Camera." And from the earliest devices, we've seen manufacturers and app developers diverge from Google's solution and roll their own interpretations. (To varying degrees of success, for sure.)
