GameStop now taking in trades of Galaxy Tabs and Nexus devices

Posted: 30 Apr 2012 10:56 AM PDT

Game freaks and Android fans rejoice. GameStop has begun taking trades on both Nexus devices and Galaxy Tabs. This adds to the device market for GameStop, as they were previously taking in (and still are) iOS devices as well.

With as popular as the mobile gaming market is becoming, GameStop is making, in this writer's opinion, a good, solid move with this. The picture above confirms that the Galaxy Tab and Nexus S devices are currently allowed, and rumor has it that many more devices will become accepted. Keep in mind, however, that these trade in acceptances are at select locations only... for now.

Let us know what you think in the comments!

LG to open cloud service tomorrow: 5GB free, 50GB for 6 months with an LG device

Posted: 30 Apr 2012 10:43 AM PDT

LG has announced their plans to release their own cloud-based storage platform. Dubbed "LG Cloud" (Brilliant!), the service streams a plethora of media between your LG Smart TV and your other devices, stores your files in the cloud, and allows for quick, realtime streaming. File types allowed include:

Video : 29 extensions including ASF, AVI, MPEG, MP4, WMV, MOV and MKV
- Music : 35 extensions including FLAC, MID, MP4, OGG, WMA, RM and WAV
- Photo : 33 extensions including GIF, JPG, PNG, TIFF, BMP and PSD
- Document : 60 extensions including DOC, PPT, XLS, TXT, HTML and PSD

The service launches tomorrow for USA and South Korean customers, with no word on when it will head out to other regions. If you're a standard LG Hub user without an LG device, you'll get an automatic 5GB of storage. However, with an LG device, you get 50GB free for 6 months - pricing beyond that is yet a mystery. You'll need to both download the app from the Play Store and hit up the online hub to get started.

New patent reveals Google design for slide-out, QWERTY style phone

Posted: 30 Apr 2012 10:26 AM PDT

Google's designs for their prized Nexus line (Nexus One, Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus) have all followed the standard candybar-style. However, the latest from the rumor mill (or patent mill, as it were) is layouts for a slide out, QWERTY style device.

We here at AndroidGuys are reminded of the HTC Dream, the original Android handset, in these pictures. There are several different slide out mechanism plans, including a scissor-hinge, sprint & stabilizing link, as well as a serpentine style.

The patents were filed in January 2012, and just ran through the patent office this month.

Be sure to hit up the source link below for full details, and let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Free, as in beer: KegDroid uses NFC and Xoom tablet to dispense on-tap beer

Posted: 30 Apr 2012 10:05 AM PDT

You have a tablet. You have an NFC enabled device. You have a thirst for anything awesome (read as: beer). So, what do you do? Well, if you're Google employee Paul Carriff, you'd probably respond with something along the lines of "make a beer dispenser".

Click here to view the embedded video.

Paul has taken a Motorola Xoom tablet and combined an Ardunio board to make this totally awesome beer dispenser, seen above. The way it works is simple. You have an NFC tag that literally cards you, as your age is built into the tag. You scan, and the dispenser gives it out, in perfectly defined increments. The Xoom even verifies that the beer is kept at an icy, refreshing 39 degrees Fahrenheit.

Verizon begins new, friendlier Droid Does campaign

Posted: 30 Apr 2012 09:07 AM PDT

Verizon has gone back to using their famous "Droid Does" line to promote some of their Android smartphones, as evidenced in the Youtube video below.  Gone are the days of scaring consumers into buying a powerful hardware beast capable of doing just about anything.  At least that is our hope.  If this first clip is a sign of things to come, then we can expect to see a campaign that still promotes all the great things that Android phones do, but in a more subtle manner.

What do you think of the kinder, gentler Droid Does ad below?

LG puts their money on Android, decides Windows Phone hardware is less important

Posted: 30 Apr 2012 07:25 AM PDT

In a move that shouldn't really surprise anyone, LG has decided to set development of Windows Phone hardware in lieu of using Android for more handsets. LG has been known to bring to the market some great devices such as the new LG Lucid and LG Thrill 4G, and (as shown at MWC by the complete lack of anything WP-related) has been able to bring up a profit for the first time in 7 quarters of turning over losses, greatly due to the Android device market.

What do you think this means as far as what we can expect in the future from LG? Let us know in the comments.

Yesterday, we showed you a leaked Sony device which will be launched in July, and there was another device in the roadmap known as Tapioca. The device today showed up at TechBlog, alongside Sony Xperia S. The device is scheduled for July and it will be the tiniest member of Sony Xperia series.

As it will be an entry-level device, it will be featuring specs like a single-core 800MHz Qualcomm processor, 512MB of RAM, 3.2-inch display with HVGA resolution, 3MP camera, and other goodies. More will be revealed in July when the phone will make its official début.

On the roadmap, another device was mentioned which is Tapioca-DS, and probably that device is the same but featuring a sliding QWERTY keyboard. Like if you remember the SE Xperia X10 Mini and Mini Pro, it's probably the same situation. Anyway, let's wait till July and see what Sony got for us in their stove.
