AnTuTu Benchmark Shows Exynos-Powered Samsung Galaxy S III Is Top Dog Over Competition

As we get closer to Samsung’s big event next week, we will start to hear the beat of the leaks grow louder and louder. Case in point: AnTuTu casually lists a “Samsung Galaxy S III” in its benchmark software. The significance of this is that if this benchmark result is true, the Galaxy S III listed here crushes most of the competition and even beats out the ASUS Transformer Prime tablet in terms of overall performance. That’s not all either, there seem to be specific details of the device listed as well. For starters, this “Galaxy S III” model features a Exynos 4212 1.4GHz processor which is believed to be a dual-core variant (no quad-core?), 1GB of RAM, a 4.7″ HD display with a 1280×720 resolution, 2MP front camera, 12MP rear camera and Android 4.0. For the most part, the details for the device in this benchmark seems to match up with specs we’d previously heard before. Additionally, the device operates under a GSM/WCDMA band. That’s nice and all, but many of you are on CDMA or 4G LTE bands. Let’s just hope Samsung either releases a CDMA and LTE version of the smartphone at the same time as the GSM version or at the very least— not wait too long to release the additional models.

Yup, Samsung just continues to give us additional reasons to salivate, doesn’t it? Just one more week folks. Just one more week…

Google Wallet now officially running on T-Mobile Galaxy Nexus

Could it be that Google Wallet is no longer exclusive to specific networks? The application started its life as a Sprint exclusive and more recently became available on AT&T. Many of you out there have managed to sideload the application thanks to the work of websites such as XDA developers however it appears that you can now grab it directly from Google Play.

Our friends at Engadget managed to download and run the app from a Galaxy Nexus with a T-Mobile sim. They hadn’t got around to paying for anything with it yet so it looks like that’s one final hurdle still to be negotiated. Samsung Galaxy S3 accidentally outed by Carphone Warehouse?

We still don’t know the official name of the next Samsung Galaxy but we have seen plenty of  images of what it might look like. Amazon recently posted a listing for a Galaxy S3 on its website and today it’s the turn of major UK retailer Carphone Warehouse to let a cat out of the bag. The above thumbnail image was posted in the coming soon section of the CPW website, admittedly it’s too small to read too much into it however it certainly looks like a typical Samsung design. Perhaps even more interestingly the listing has since disappeared and now simply reads ‘the next Galaxy device’

The little pieces of the jigsaw continue to roll in, the real trick is trying to separate the genuine images from the red herrings. Fortunately we only have to wait one more week to find out.

Activision’s award winning Rigonauts coming to Android in May

American video game publisher Activision played host to its first ever Independent Games Competition last year offering big money to small developers with big ideas. Among the winners was the physics based battle strategy game Rigonauts. Similar to Apparatus, Rigonauts allows you to construct your very own mobile structure that is used to fight off enemy war vehicles while making your way through each level. There are various weapons that can be attached to your “Rigo” such as machine guns, cannons and flame throwers. That, coupled with various creatures and over 30 levels of gameplay will surely provide hours of fun for many gamers looking for something unique and challenging. No official word yet on pricing but we can expect to see it released in the Play Store sometime in May. Check out the video below to see the game in action.

T-Mobile Launches The HTC One S Smartphone For $199.99 (After $50 Mail-In Rebate)

Well gang the time has come if you’ve been anticipating the official arrival of the T-Mobile HTC One S smartphone. T-Mobile has unleashed the smartphone and now lists the device for a smooth $199.99 (after a $50 mail-in rebate) on-contract or $599.99 outright. In case you’ve forgotten, the device features a snappy 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor, Android 4.0 + Sense 4.0, Beats Audio and some impressive camera software for you folks who love taking quality photos. Let’s see how long it is before T-Mobile sells out of this puppy.

Verizon’s Motorola Droid 4, Bionic And Razr All Modified To Work On GSM Technologies

I can recall a few years back a gentlemen running a Blackberry Storm on T-Mobile’s network and I was like ???  But those were the days when global phones on Verizon’s network wasn’t as widespread as they are today.  I quickly learned that the device was a global device and could be used to roam on GSM networks (dual-sim slot) outside of the U.S.  Devices like that were important for businessmen and woman requiring a smartphone that could operate nearly everywhere they traveled.  Well, global devices are becoming more of the norm on Verizon’s network and so it’s no surprise anymore to see a Verizon branded “Droid” on a GSM carrier like T-Mobile or AT&T.  So what do you need to make it work?  For starters, you’ll need a Motorola Droid 4, Bionic or Razr on Verizon and a few top notch guys from everyone’s famous and favorite site, XDA Developers.  Because these devices support global GSM bands, a little bit of tinkering and few modifications, one can be all set to run on the GSM carrier of their choice.  This is in part due to the fact that the device’s MDM6600 radio is compatible with AT&T’s HSPA technology and T-Mobile’s Edge network.  User P3Droid even posted pics over on his Twitter page for proof (pics above and below).  And while this might not be Verizon’s first choice as a means of using hardware ultimately designed to work on their network, tough stuff Vz, this is how Android users do it.  The dev’s have been presented with some challenges due to the locked bootloaders issue, but you know XDA, they always come through.

Oppo Leaks Image Of 6.65mm Smartphone, Gives Huawei’s Ascend P1 S Some Competition

Think the upcoming Huawei Ascend P1 S smartphone is thin as thin can get? Well, you may want to think again as there’s a new kid on the block aiming to have the title of “World’s Thinnest Smartphone”. Chinese company Oppo has leaked out a photo of its upcoming device that will be only 6.65mm thick— which is 0.03mm thinner than Huawei’s offering. The device features a rich black finish, a metallic bezel around the device and 3 capacative buttons. Of course you can have a visually appealing thin smartphone, but it’s what’s inside that really matters and unfortunately, Oppo has not provided any details on what’s inside the device.

No additional details for now, but we’ll be sure to share them as we hear them.

MIT’s Media Lab demos NewsFlash, Transmits data via high-frequency light to smartphones

MIT’s Media Lab is at it again. This time they demoed NewsFlash which uses high-frequency red and green light to transmit data to a built-in camera on a receiving device. In the demo they used an iPad to transmit to a Samsung Epic 4G. The concept is similar to a QR code, but no 2D square. Instead the generated lights are invisible to the human eye and a little more graceful. This is only at the concept stage so don’t expect to see this soon, but one has to wonder if NFC would be a better alternative. Hit the break for the demo video from Engadget.

Reports Indicate HTC And Facebook Are Collaborating On Another Smartphone

The latest news from the rumor mill sure is intriguing. Word on the street is HTC and Facebook will be participating in another joint venture to develop a smartphone. If you recall friends, both companies joined together to create the Facebook Phone last year, so yes friends, we will likely a follow-up to the oh-so familiar Facebook-centered smartphone that was heavily promoted last year. Like the original, the new smartphone will be a specially made device which is you guessed it— Facebook-centric that will arrive in the third quarter of this year.

DigiTimes reports HTC has some reasons for both HTC and Facebook making the second attempt at developing an exclusive or custom smartphone. Although Google selected HTC for the G1 (HTC Dream) and the Nexus One smartphones, Samsung has been the successor for the following Nexus phones— the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus. It looks like HTC is likely unhappy that Samsung is expected to continue on the Nexus line by developing the next Nexus device, so it’s decided to press on and partner with Facebook for another opportunity at an exclusive and special device instead. In addition, Facebook is in the midst of becoming a public company. That means it is expected to further expand its investments and sources of income. Naturally, the launch of its own brand of smartphones being part of its development strategy would be a good way to start.

And that’s the kicker folks— the new version of the Facebook phone would possibly not just feature a Facebook button, but rather be a more complete and integrated Facebook experience. It looks as if this upcoming device will have much more involvement with Facebook’s development team— so this may be the true Facebook phone we’ve all been speculating for years. Then again, it could of course be another Salsa/ChaCha-type phone, but hey– at least we’ll find out soon enough.

[Video] Trailer for Gameloft’s N.O.V.A. 3 now available

The Near Orbit Vanguard Alliance aka N.O.V.A. is and action adventure first person shooter from Gameloft. Up and coming is the third installment of this action packed game. This is one of those games that will take full advantage of the power coming out of today's mobile platforms. Gameloft itself is even taking a part in mobile 3D gaming, starting with optimizing a number of games for the LG Optimus 3D Max.

So feast your eyes on the video below. You won't see any real gameplay, but it will definitely hype you up for the N.O.V.A. 3 release.
