Huawei Ascend G312 (U8680) Arrives At FCC’s Door Step, Reveals T-Mobile MyTouch Branding

Posted: 23 Apr 2012 11:55 AM PDT

T-Mobile is bent on keeping their MyTouch branding alive and well and there’s no secret that the company has been in cahoots with Huawei to become the hardware manufacturer of the next gen device.  That being said, a device strongly resembling the Ascend G312 has reared its little frame over at the FCC revealing the MyTouch moniker and dubbed the “U8680″.  Could this be the next qwerty variant of the MyTouch line?  The FCC docs and pics reveal that there is compatibility with HSPA, UMTS, EDGE and GPRS technologies.    We know the device Huawei plans to release is a 4-inch WVGA res’d device which will have ICS 4.0 on board.  There will also be a 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8255T SoC and 1GB or RAM running on the device.  For now, we’ll just have to speculate until an official announcement is made by Magenta.  Feel free to hit up the source link below for more FCC goodies.

LG releases the Optimus 3D Max in Europe Today

Posted: 23 Apr 2012 10:44 AM PDT

LG is proud to push the Optimus 3D Max to the masses in Europe today. Although the whole mobile 3D hasn't really taken off like manufacturers had hope, LG still had a device it wants to share and throw in the mix. The LG Optimus 3D Max sports the following features: Android 2.3, 1.2GHz dual-core processor, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage, 5mega-pixel  rear cameras with  3D video and capture, VGA front-facing camera, 4.3-inch WVGA 3D screen protected by Gorilla Glass, and Near Field Communication (NFC).

This year's  Mobile World Congress is where the LG Optimus 3D Max was announced along with a few other devices from LG. This particular LG phone is packed with a new 3D Converter to bring to life 2D content and display content from the likes of Google Earth and Google Maps into glasses-free 3D. The device will offer high resolution conversion to your TV via Mobile High-Definition Link (MHDL). Even as we discussed in March, Gameloft has jump aboard the 3D train and announced a number of games that will feature 3D play and will be available in LG’s Smart World.

Jump past the break for the full press release.

LG LAUNCHES SECOND-GENERATION 3D SMARTPHONE IN EUROPE

(SEOUL–Korea Newswire) April 23, 2012 — LG's latest achievement in the glasses-free 3D space — the Optimus 3D Max — will kick-off its global roll-out today starting in Europe. As first seen at Mobile World Congress 2012, the second-generation 3D smartphone boasts an enhanced chipset and more enticing 3D entertainment features in a slimmer and lighter body.

"We are deliberately pushing the limits of mobile entertainment innovation with the Op-timus 3D Max," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company. "This device has evolved significantly since we introduced the first Optimus 3D at Mobile World Congress in 2011. Our second generation glasses-free 3D smartphone is as thin and light as any other high-end smartphone while still de-livering a spectacular picture in either 2D or 3D."

The Optimus 3D Max now includes a new 3D Converter which allows for a greater va-riety of 3D content as it converts 2D content from Google Earth, Google Maps and oth-er mapping apps into 3D. Visitors at MWC 2012 also raved about the device's unique 3D video editor which allows the editing of 3D video on the phone in real time. And the 3D Hot Key mounted on the side of the phone enables users to easily toggle between 2D and 3D. The Optimus 3D Max includes 3D-style cubicle icons in addition to its customizable icons which can be amended by applying the users' own photos through the Icon Customizer feature.

Additional features, which will be available through an upcoming maintenance release (MR), include a HD Converter to offer high resolution content to be viewed on a TV connected through MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) and Range Finder, which cal-culates the distance between the camera and a subject as well as the dimensions of an object through triangulation.

As for its new form-factor, the Optimus 3D Max is 2mm slimmer and 20g lighter than its predecessor, measuring only 9.6 mm thin and weighing 148g. The 5MP camera on the rear captures both photos and video in 3D using its dual lenses. The recorded material can be viewed directly on the smartphone in glasses-free 3D or on a 3D capable computer monitor or TV.

More evidence involving a possible T-Mobile Galaxy Note surfaces

Posted: 23 Apr 2012 10:29 AM PDT

Just a couple of days ago we showed you a leaked user agent string for the Samsung SGH-T879. Immediately the speculation was that it could be the Galaxy Note for T-Mobile. Now we present you with exhibit B: leaked Android build screenshots. Supposedly they’re taken off a T-Mobile Galaxy Note. As you can see the model number is the same, but that alone isn’t enough evidence.

As TmoNews points out, the leaked ICS build for the AT&T Galaxy Note is the same build number (IML74K.144) and the build servers and time stamp match up with Samsung’s official build information. Official Samsung builds have build numbers suffixed with the baseband version instead of a decimal number. This pattern exists with other official ROMs from the Vibrant, the Galaxy S 4G, the Galaxy S Blaze 4G, and the Galaxy S II. Of course it doesn’t hurt that the images are scaled down from 1280 x 800 and it looks like the TouchWiz interface from Android 4.X.

So there you have it. None of this means that we will definitely see the Galaxy Note on T-Mobile, but it’s always nice to have a second piece of evidence. I sense Exhibit C isn’t far. Stay tuned.

UK Launch date available for the ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T

Posted: 23 Apr 2012 09:00 AM PDT

The next ASUS Tranformer Pad TF300T will be launching in the United Kingdom at the end of May this year.  This device will be a budget-friendly alternative to the Prime. It will be powered by NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 CPU, Android 4.0, 8mp camera, 10.1″ display, 16Gb of internal storage, and more.  The price of this tablet will start at £399, which will include the keyboard dock. Being that this launch price is well below the Prime, I would think ASUS could see some pretty decent sales numbers. At launch it will be available to only one retailer, then toward the end of June spread to other retail store for wider sale.

To all our reader in the US, this tablet is already available for order. Hit the break for the detailed UK press release.

Incredible performance meets style and value

United Kingdom (April 23, 2012) – Announced at Mobile World Congress in February, the new ASUS Transformer Pad is a powerful, yet affordable, tablet with a host of features onboard. Available in three stylish colors, the ASUS Transformer Pad is aptly named thanks to the mobile dock that allows it to transform from a tablet into a notebook. When docked, total battery life is rated up to 15 hours, while also increasing productivity with a full QWERTY keyboard, multi-touch touchpad and USB/SD Card ports. Housed in the Transformer Pad is a powerful NVIDIA® Tegra® 3 Quad-core CPU, ASUS SonicMaster technology for an incredible audio experience and an 8MP auto-focus camera that shoots crystal clear photos. The Transformer Pad is running the AndroidTM 4.0 operating system (Ice Cream Sandwich) that is upgradable and features exclusive software for added productivity.

The Transformer Pad comes in three stylish colors: Royal Blue, Iceberg White and Torch Red. It also boasts an elegant concentric patterned finish that hints at the ASUS Zen philosophy found in the ZENBOOKTM and Transformer Pad Prime. With a profile that’s 9.9mm thin and 635g light, the Transformer Pad can easily be carried around all day, and when combined with the ASUS exclusive Mobile Dock, it turns into a productivity workstation. A QWERTY keyboard and multi-touch touchpad offers a true notebook experience, while a USB port and SD card slot provide additional storage options.

Powering the Transformer Pad is NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 4-PLUS-1TM quad-core CPU with an integrated 12-core GeForce® GPU that provides superior performance, multi-tasking, smooth Full HD 1080p video playback and console-quality gaming. The “PLUS-1″ is an extra battery-saver core in the CPU that handles low-power tasks like active standby, music and video, and is transparent to the OS and applications. It offers the best combination of ultra-performance with low power consumption – up to 10 hours on the Pad and extended up to 15 hours when combined with the Mobile Dock.

Pricing and availability

The ASUS Transformer Pad TF300T will be priced SRP £399 (including VAT) for the bundle configuration that includes the mobile keyboard dock, and available to order online from early May at Currys (www.currys.co.uk) and PC World (www.pcworld.co.uk) and available in-store at Currys and PC World from late May, and then widely available from all retailers from late June.

The Royal Blue model will be available at launch, whilst the Iceberg White model will be available late June and Torch Red model available late July.

We will announce exact dates nearer the time via our Facebook fan page at www.facebook.com/asusuk.

MIPS-based Android 4.0 tablet to emerge from Philips

Posted: 23 Apr 2012 08:23 AM PDT

Philips is positioned to release a new line of tablets to it’s consumers, at least in China for now. This tablet will feature Android 4.0 aka Ice Cream Sandwich. Unlike most tablets powered by an ARM or x86 processor, the up and coming Philips 7″ tablet will house a MIPS CPU. This low-powered processor isn’t the popular choice among manufacturers, but that could change.

Google has taken more notice of the MIPS processor by reporting plans to offer better support. Google will bundle support in their developers kit by including a compiler for MIPS. As this processor is mainly found in low end, low priced tablet, we may see an up turn in the use of MIPS since Google has turn its attention to supporting it. To follow, we can expect to see developer support for applications being compatible with MIPS-based tablets, sharing the attention with ARM and x86.

This Philips tablet most likely will not be found on shelves on the United States, but will first be launched in China. Stay tuned for more information.
