LG’s Google TV hitting the US later this month

LG introduced us to two shiny new Google TV models at CES 2012 back in January in 47″ and 55″ variants. We came away fairly impressed at the show, though moreso for the Magic Remote than the actual TVs themselves, even though they featured 3D support.

We started to hear wind of possible price points for these bad boys last week, with the 47″ rumored to sell for $1,699 and the 55″ variant to go for $2,299. Turns out, those will be the final MSRP price for LG’s entrants into the Google TV platform, though you can find them a bit cheaper at Amazon. Amazon has the 47″ for $1,599, and the 55″ for $2,099. Reuters reported this morning that the TVs will be officially start shipping on May 21st, just two short weeks from today.

If you’re in the market for a new TV, and want your next set to incorporate the Android platform, you can do no better than the LG Google TVs. Anyone out there have their eyes on one of these devices? Sound off in the comments.

Back in March we partied with gdgt Live at SXSW and had a blast, but we know a lot of you were not able to make it out to Texas. That’s okay, because the gdgt crew is traveling across the country and they have a bunch more tour dates already lined up. The next gdgt LIVE event takes place in Chicago (#2 city for Android nerds) on Friday, May 11.

If you’ve never heard of gdgt Live, it’s free, all-ages and open to the public. These shows provide a great opportunity to meet people from the companies you love, check out their latest gadgets and hang out with your peers.

For this show they will have new gdgt t-shirts and new gdgt-branded iPhone cases from Speck for the first several hundred folks who join us, so make sure you get there early. (Yo Speck, where’s the Android love?) Of course, they'll also have a whole bunch of gadgets to win — but only if you show up.

We can’t all make it to the show, but Anthony, Chuck, Sean and I do plan to attend. If you’re coming, too, leave us a comment below and be sure to track us down and say hi while you’re there.

Please tell your friends and help spread the word on all your favorite social sites. The official Twitter hashtag is #gdgtChicago. Head over to the gdgt Live Chicago page for the current list of sponsors.

Where: The Tribune Building, 435 N Michigan Ave, Chicago
When: Friday, May 11 – 7:00pm to 10:00pm
Why: Because we know you love gadgets as much as we do!

Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE now available for preorder

Though we’ve known this date was coming for quite some time now, Sprint has officially announced that the HTC EVO 4G LTE is now up for preorder, and will run $199.99 with a new 2 year agreement. Customers looking to get their hands on the latest in the EVO line can head over to Sprint’s EVO 4G LTE landing page to reserve your device.

Of course, you may want to wait until a bit later this week to get your preorder on, as Sprint should be unveiling more information on their LTE rollout at the CTIA conference kicking off today in New Orleans. As you probably are aware, Sprint has the slowest 3G network of the major US carriers, and you probably won’t want to be stuck with 3G service if their speedy LTE network isn’t making its way to your town until next year.

The EVO 4G LTE is widely believed to be available on May 18th, so you won’t have to wait too long to get your hands on the EVO after preordering the device.

As a reminder, specs for the EVO 4G LTE include:

  • 4.7″ 720P HD display
  • Dual-Core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor
  • 8 megapixel rear camera with an f2.0 lens BSI sensor, dedicated imaging chip and HTC's new Image Sense technology
  • 1.3 megapixel front-facing camera
  • 1GB RAM
  • 16GB internal storage
  • NFC
  • LTE
  • 2,000 mAh battery
  • HD Voice for crystal-clear audio calls

HTC One V coming to the US this summer

The HTC One V has gotten much less attention than its beefier brothers, the One X and One S smartphones making their way to AT&T (One X), Sprint (One X), and T-Mobile (One S) as early as this month. HTC has just announced that the entry-level One V will be shown off at CTIA later this week in New Orleans, and that the One V will go on sale on “a variety of US partners” later this summer.

The HTC One V is an entry level device that has the benefit of the beautifully-designed HTC One line. This is not your average entry-level phone, with the looks of the One S and One V with entry level specs that should see the device come with an extremely low price tag. We don’t yet know which partners will be getting their hands on the One V, but we expect this to receive a widespread US launch in just a few months.

If someone prices this device at around $300 unlocked, we can see it flying off store-shelves. Full specs for the One V are as follows:

HTC One V Specifications

  • 1GHz single-core Qualcomm processor
  • 3.7-inch TFT capacitive display (480 x 800)
  • HTC Sense 4.0
  • Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • 512MB RAM
  • 4GB built-in storage
  • 5-megapixel camera w/ LED flash and AF
  • MicroSD card slot (up to 32GB)
  • Bluetooth v4.0 w/ A2DP
  • MicroUSB
  • Dimensions: 120.3 x 59.7 x 9.2mm
  • Weight: 115g

We’ll bring you the details as we learn of US releases for the HTC One V. Anyone out there considering the One V as a cheap alternative to the ever-more-expensive crop of devices hitting the market?

Verizon’s DROID Incredible 4G LTE by HTC officially announced

After months of leaks, rumors and dozens of blurry pictures, Verizon has officially unveiled the DROID Incredible by HTC. While we’ve seen quite a few spec variances over the past months, the official handset internals match up with some of the most recent rumors.

Looking at the specs, Verizon’s DROID Incredible 4G LTE is a decent phone. It’s size matches up closely with the HTC One S, while featuring NFC and LTE connectivity like the EVO 4G LTE and AT&T’s HTC One X. Additionally, the DROID Incredible 4G LTE features a removable battery and a microSD expansion slot which will allow users to add an additional 32GB of storage to the device.

It’s hard to say which of HTC’s four devices is better than the other since they all offer features which make them each unique in their own right. The DROID Incredible 4G LTE may have a smaller screen and underclocked processor, but its removable battery and expandable storage options may actually make it a more appealing option to Android enthusiasts and power users.

Verizon’s staying silent on the price, but the press release does mention that the DROID Incredible 4G LTE will be available on its website and in Verizon stores within the coming weeks. We wouldn’t be surprised if Verizon prices the phone at $299, but we feel a fair price would be something between $149 and $179.

How do you think the DROID Incredible 4G LTE stacks up against the HTC One X, One S and EVO 4G LTE?
