Samsung Galaxy S III Official Accessories Revealed

Posted: 13 May 2012 02:27 PM PDT

Samsung has just released press photos of their official Samsung Galaxy S III accessories. Included are the C-Pen, Wi-Fi Display Hub, Flip Cover, and battery charger and stand.

Hit the break for details and high res press photos.

Probably the coolest accessory is the Flip Cover. This case is unique in that it replaces your S III’s back cover and contains a flap that closes to protect the phone’s screen. This helps keep the case from adding too much bulk to the phone while still protecting it, which is a nice touch.

The C-Pen is a capacitive stylus that is visibly chunkier than the Galaxy Note’s S-Pen. Of course, the C-Pen does not live inside the phone’s housing, so it can be better contoured for holding solidly in your hand.

The stand and battery charger will hold the phone upright and has a battery charging slot in the back to charge any extra batteries you want to keep on the ready. Unfortunately, it doesn’t charge the battery in the phone itself while sitting in the stand.

The Wi-Fi Display Hub allows you to project the phone’s screen out through a full-sized HDMI port. This is useful for watching photos and video from the phone on a big screen (one that doesn’t use a PenTile display… I kid, I kid!).

No news on the release dates for these accessories, but we’d expect it would be right around the release of the S III in Europe. Check out additional photos in the gallery below.

Grab yourself a fix for the HTC One X LTE WiFi bug

Posted: 13 May 2012 02:25 PM PDT

Still suffering from slow, intermittent WiFi on your AT&T HTC One X? Well you can hold fire on trading it in for a Galaxy S III as HTC has released a statement promising a timely update to remedy the issue. Better yet, the guys over at BriefMobile managed to get their hands on it early and have uploaded it so the rest of us can get in on the action.

Check out the official statement from HTC after the break and then click the source link to make your WiFi woes disappear!

“In regards to the wifi issue your running into, this is currently an issue that has been brought to our attention and we are actively working on a fix for this. We don't have an ETA on the release of the fix yet, but we do have a work around in the meanwhile of toggling the wifi connection on the phone for a few seconds then toggling it back on. This will reset the connection from the phone to the Wifi, make it grab a new address and it should work for a while.”

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 unboxing and initial hands on review

Posted: 13 May 2012 11:34 AM PDT

A few weeks ago, Samsung released the Galaxy Tab 2 7.0, which of course is a 7-inch Android tablet. Today marks the release of the 10.1-inch version of that same tablet. Other than the display size, resolution, and storage capacity, the only other difference is the placement of the speakers. This tab gets them in the front to the left and right of the display along the bezel, which will obviously give a better sound experience.

The full specs include a 10.1-inch (1280 x 800) display, a 1 GHz dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM, 3MP rear camera, VGA front camera, 16 GB of internal storage, microSD for up to an additional 32GB of storage, Bluetooth 3.0, WiFi, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and the latest edition of TouchWiz.

It’s priced at $399, and is available now at most major retailers. I thought the Galaxy Tab 7.0 was a great value at $249, but will this one be the same? There’s already major competition with the ASUS Transformer Pad TF300. Not only does it have the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core chip, but it’s also $20 cheaper. I will do a full review, but for now hit the break for the initial hands on review.

ASUS Airs New Padfone Demo Video, Wait Until You See this Awesome New Accessory

Posted: 13 May 2012 10:57 AM PDT

For a device not being available quite yet, the ASUS Padfone has gotten quite a bit of buzz lately. We recently watched as it received it’s first publicly aired unboxing video, then we were shown some real-life battery test results. To continue with the hype, ASUS just released an official demo video of the phone-tablet-dock combo in action, and it’s a video you really don’t want to miss. Not only does the demo touch base on a few features we already know about, ASUS also introduces a really slick accessory I have yet to see. Just as a recap, Padfone features include:

  • 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor
  • Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 4.3″ Super AMOLED qHD phone display
  • 10.1-inch tablet display (details yet to be confirmed)
  • 8MP rear camera featuring a 5-element f/2.2 lens
  • Total of up to 14,000mAh battery with phone, tablet, and dock
  • Stylus/Headset accessory

Wait, what was that last one? Yeah, a stylus/headset accessory! I am sure you can use your imagination on this one but what’s cooler that a stylus that doubles as a headset? After all, you do need some way to answer phone calls when your phone is stuck inside your tablet! Up until now I have always wondered how that issue would be addressed and according to the demo video ASUS has these things all figured out. Now if they could just get the whole U.S. release thing figured out.

Jump past the break to see this awesome piece of tech in action, but don’t mind the second half of the video. It seems that ASUS can put together some awesome hardware but could use a little help in the marketing division. After you watch the video be sure to leave us a comment on what you think about the new accessory.

NenaMark Benchmark Points to Verizon’s Galaxy S III Using a Snapdragon S4

Posted: 12 May 2012 10:33 PM PDT

Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy S III is thought to be model number SCH-I535, which we saw in a user agent string earlier. Well now, a NenaMark benchmark has appeared for the SCH-I535, and by the looks of it, it’s definitely not the quad-core Exynos processor. The benchmark shows an Adreno 225 GPU and a 1.5GHz CPU, which points to Qualcomm’s dual-core LTE-capable Snapdragon S4.

The device also runs Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich, sports a 720p HD display, and is slated for Verizon. No news on a release date, but Samsung has mentioned it could come as early as June.

Huawei Ascend Y200 Entry-Level Phone Coming To U.S.

Posted: 12 May 2012 10:02 PM PDT

Huawei teased us with its high-end Ascend D Quad a few days ago at CTIA, but it still has its feet firmly planted on entry-level soil. The Huawei Ascend Y200, also shown at CTIA, is an example of a phone that’s perfect for teenagers, smartphone first-timers, or anyone on a budget. The “Y” stands for “Youth”, which is how Huawei is positioning devices with slower processors, smaller screens, and lower camera specs. The Y200 sports the following specs:

  • Single-core 1GHz processor
  • 3.5-inch 320 x 480 resolution display
  • 3.2 megapixel camera
  • 1,400 mAh battery
  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread

This is definitely a lower-end phone. It should be coming to U.S. carriers some time in the next couple of months, though we don’t know which yet. Pricing has also not been announced.
