Dead Zebra’s Series 03 Android mini figurines arriving late July

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 02:30 PM PDT

Dead Zebra’s Android mini figurine collection has given us quite a few interesting takes on the iconic mascot for Google’s mobile operating system. The latest line of collectibles has been in the works for quite some time, but fans should soon be able to get their mitts on these artistic riffs on the everyone’s favorite android. Dead Zebra was originally hoping to ship the figurines in Q2, but changes to the prototyping process created some delays. Now the toymaker is shooting for a late July release.

As always, those hopeful of picking up a few of the Series 03 figures will want to act quickly once they do go on sale. Previous releases have flown off shelves, making the collectibles hard to track down.

Adobe Flash Player 11 gets another minor update

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 01:27 PM PDT

Adobe doesn’t support development for Flash Player 11 on Android anymore, but the company has continued to steadily push out minor updates to address bugs and security issues over the past several months. Yet another is available from Google Play now, and the changes once again appear focused on tackling minor issues while maintaining compatibility with Adobe’s current versions of Flash and Air. A lengthy list of release notes (most of which don’t pertain to the mobile version of Flash Player 11.3), can be found over at Adobe’s site.

Blurry pics give us a look at the Motorola DROID RAZR HD

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 12:28 PM PDT

The Motorola DROID RAZR HD hasn’t been the most mysterious Android phone as of late, so here are a couple of blurry images to add to the handset’s mystique. We have a pretty good idea of what to expect when Verizon releases the latest Droid RAZR. Rumored specs include a 13MP camera, a dual-core Snapdragon processor, and LTE connectivity. The phone should sport a 3,300mAh battery, much like the Droid RAZR MAXX, and the side profile shot of the phone seems to confirm that we won’t be getting the thinnest version of the RAZR this time around.

The backplate again shows off a patterned kevlar shell for added durability, and the microHDMI and microUSB ports are in a new arrangement. We don’t get a frontal view, but it is assumed that Motorola will go with Android 4.0′s software navigation keys as opposed to a hardware alternative. The RAZR HD is expected to launch sometime this summer, likely towards the end of the season.

SK Telecom’s Galaxy S III merges quad-core CPU and 2GB RAM

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 11:28 AM PDT

While the difference in performance between Samsung’s quad-core Exynos version of the Galaxy S III and the dual-core LTE variant looks to be negligible, customers in the US will no doubt feel slightly cheated despite the presence of twice the RAM as found in the international version of the phone. Now a new leak seems to reveal that at least one version of the flagship device will merge the specs of both variants.

Before those in other regions start to wonder why the same arrangement couldn’t be made for the handset destined for carriers like AT&T and Verizon, 4G support appears to be limited to HSPA+. The SHV-E210S version of the Galaxy S III also adds a bit of girth to accommodate the additional hardware elements.  For those hoping to get their hands on this version of the phone, find a good importer. It’s unlikely we will see this model outside of Korea.

US Cellular announce Samsung Galaxy S III pricing, pre-orders begin June 12

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 10:59 AM PDT

Earlier this week Samsung and a grouping of five US carriers announced various release details for the Galaxy S III. While the four major players — Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, and AT&T — have all either made a release date known or at the very least started pre-orders for the highly-anticpated device, the only regional carrier of the bunch kept us in the dark. Now US Cellular has announced pricing and pre-order details, as well as a general availability of July.

Pricing falls in line with the other US carriers — $199 for the 16GB model and $249 for 32GB. Those totals come after a $100 mail-in rebate and a service agreement. US Cellular will begin pre-orders for the Galaxy S III on June 12th.

Image of Motorola Dinara for AT&T leaks, could be the Atrix 3

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 10:46 AM PDT

A photo of the press variety has surfaced purporting to be AT&T’s next Motorola handset. Signs point to the photo being the device codenamed Dinara. We’ve heard the name bandied about plenty in past months, and rumors point to the device featuring a 720p HD display and run Ice Cream Sandwich on Ma Bell’s LTE network. Given the higher-end specs, there is a strong possibility the Dinara could launch as the Motorola Atrix 3.

While the handset doesn’t follow Motorola’s recent design language that has made its way to the RAZR line, Xyboard tablets, and even the Droid 4 on Verizon, we do see from the photo a move towards Android 4.0 software buttons, an OS-level element that Moto is slowly bringing over to their newer devices.   A July 26th date on the mocked-up homescreen could suggest a launch date, but consider it a rumor for now.

Dropbox for Android update brings custom video streaming for ICS users, language support for Korean

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 08:44 AM PDT

Dropbox have issued a pretty decent update in the Google Play Store recently. Version 2.1.4 has custom-tailored video streaming for Ice Cream Sandwich users. As I don’t have any videos to upload to Dropbox I can’t be too sure of what they mean. Users can also find new localization options as Korean has been added as a supported language. Grab this one in the  Google Play Store.

Facebook App Center is another apps highlight platform… but on Facebook

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 07:04 AM PDT

Facebook have officially released the Facebook App Center, a glorified apps highlight platform that’ll give you download recommendations for apps in the Google Play Store (and iOS for those who have Apple devices). This is great for developers who want to drive downloads as Facebook provides an audience hundreds of millions of users who may or may not be aware of how to find new apps otherwise.

Facebook also includes recommendations from friends so you’ll be directed to apps which you might have interest in due to your friends’ taste. Developers can apply to have their apps listed, though the service is still weeks away from being rolled out to everyone. Developers can get started here. [via Facebook Developers' blog]

Sony Xperia Mini Pro gets Android 4.0

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 05:54 AM PDT

While we’re not surprised by this story considering Sony Ericsson confirmed all 2011 phones except the Xperia Play would be getting Android 4.0, we’re no less excited.

The little bundle of joy named the Sony Xperia Mini will be getting an upgrade to Android 4.0. While you’ll find that the corner-endowed Timescape UI will remain intact,Android 4.0 will bring about some minimal interface and feature changes with certain apps.

But you’ll also get to take advantage of the many apps which use the new Android 4.0 design guidelines. The companion app for PC is all you’ll need to get started, but note that this upgrade is for unlocked, unbranded versions of the device, and that carrier-specific versions will be updated according to the carriers’ wishes and schedule. Get started here. [via The Verge]

Facebook update fixes stability issue

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 05:37 AM PDT

Facebook have released a pretty nice upgrade for their Android application. Facebook 1.9.5 fixes an issue that causes the device to crash after being logged out and after long periods of inactivity.

While it’s not the elaborate experience-changing update we’re all waiting for (especially those of us using Android 4.0), we’ll take whatever improvements we can get. Find it in the Google Play Store.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted getting an Android launch October 30th

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 04:56 AM PDT

The Need For Speed: Most Wanted reboot announced by EA at E3 won’t be gracing just consoles and handhelds. EA have also announced that Need for Speed: Most Wanted will be launching on Android October 30th alongside all the other versions. Unfortunately we didn’t get a look at the game specifically for mobile devices so we’re not sure how it’ll look compared to the traditional console and handheld versions. We’ll be trying to get our hands on gameplay footage for that, but in the meantime just know that you’ll be able to get your open world, illegal street racing on the go even without a PS Vita come October 30th. While the trailer above likely won’t be indicative of the final product for mobile, grab a look anyway.
