Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 with Verizon LTE Visits the FCC

Posted: 11 Jun 2012 04:39 PM PDT

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 has recently passed through the FCC sporting radios capable of utilizing Verizon’s LTE network. Nothing really new to be gained from this filing and you can expect the device to be similar to the one we recently reviewed. Except of course for the addition of LTE radios.  The slate will run Ice Cream Sandwich and should play nicely with consumers who want a smaller sized tablet. Needless to say, Verizon customers should be expecting this to hit store shelves sometime in the near future.

Sprint No Longer a Majority Shareholder Of Clearwire

Posted: 11 Jun 2012 04:18 PM PDT

Sprint has recently voiced concerns with Clearwires’s debt and just announced that its holdings in the company are now below 50%. What does this mean exactly? Well, this means Sprint is no longer the majority share holder of the company and that the partnership between the two are going by the wayside.

Sprint has had an interesting partnership with Clearwire for the past couple of years as the two shared the 4G WiMAX network. While Sprint has been pushing to build their own 4G LTE network, Clearwire isn’t being used for that new plan. Thus, I would assume that this change in market share doesn’t really matter, nor will it affect Sprint in the future. We’re not quite sure what Sprint’s plan for Clearwire will be at this point as they have given no indication about their future partnership with the company. Either way you can be sure that Sprint’s complete and undivided attention is focused on pushing out their own LTE network to compete with Verizon and AT&T’s respective LTE services. And of course, we cannot forget about T-Mobile’s plans for their very own LTE network which is said to launch in 2013.

With Google‘s latest boast of over 900,000 daily activations and sales of Apple’s iPhone proving to be a worthy runner up, it stands to reason that there are quite a few smartphones in circulation. The US Census Bureau for 2011 told us that there were 311,591,917 people living in the United States. Digital marketing and design company Steadyrain estimate that 232,000,000 Americans are equipped with a mobile communication device, an incredible two thirds of the population.

There’s plenty of other fascinating information covering everything from web browsing to video streaming however you don’t need to take it from me. Check out the full infographic below and be sure to let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Domino’s Pizza Hits Unprecedented $1 Billion in U.S. Digital Sales in One Year, Thanking Customers with Weeklong 50% Off Pizza Online Offer

ANN ARBOR, Mich., June 11, 2012 /PRNewswire/ – Domino’s Pizza is giving its customers the thanks they deserve, as it celebrates – for the first time in its history – surpassing the $1 billion mark in digital sales in the U.S. alone, during a yearlong period from April 2011 to 2012.

Beginning today, Domino’s Pizza (NYSE: DPZ), the recognized world leader in pizza delivery, will show U.S. digital customers its appreciation by offering 50% off on all pizzas ordered online at menu price.

The special deal is only available through Domino’s digital ordering channels, which include online ordering (available at www.dominos.com), mobile ordering (available at http://mobile.dominos.com) and the iPhone and Android apps – and continues all week at participating stores, through Sunday, June 17. This limited time offer applies to the pizza portion of orders only.

“We love our online customers, and have learned so much from them during the past five years about how we can continue to deliver the best online ordering experience in the industry,” said Russell Weiner, Domino’s Pizza chief marketing officer. “Reaching $1 billion in online sales during a one year time period is a major milestone, and we hope offering this amazing deal for an entire week lets our fans and customers know how much we appreciate them.”

Ordering through Domino’s digital platforms has grown immensely since debuting in 2008 – and now makes up over 30 percent of Domino’s sales in the U.S.

The rise has been helped by significant growth with mobile ordering platforms, including the iPhone app, which debuted in June 2011, and the Android app, which was made available in February of this year.  Between both, Domino’s now offers its mobile ordering app to more than 80 percent of smartphones in the U.S.  Both apps are in the top 15 in lifestyle rankings – with the Android app ranking at No. 5 on Google Play, and the iPhone app ranking at No. 15 on the iTunes Store.

“As technology continues to evolve, we will remain committed to offering the most convenient and efficient ways to order from Domino’s,” said Weiner.

Samsung Galaxy Beam set to launch in the UK next month

Posted: 11 Jun 2012 12:26 PM PDT

Remember the Samsung Galaxy Beam? With all the excitement of the HTC One series and the GS III, this media projector/smartphone hybrid is practically a distant memory these days. Well Carphone Warehouse has just posted that they will be offering the Samsung Galaxy Beam in the UK with availability starting in July of this year.

Just to recap, the G Beam will boast a 15 lumens pico projector, practically allowing users to walk around with a 50-inch screen TV in their pocket, or so Samsung says. The smartphone side will bring a 1 GHz dual-core processor, 5 MP rear-facing camera and 1 GB of RAM. Over all, the phone sounds like a GS II with a projector implanted at the top. That’s not necessarily a bad thing as the GS II is still one of the most powerful smartphones around. So who is thinking about picking up one of these bad boys come July?

Holding the Galaxy S III in a certain way could weaken signal

Posted: 11 Jun 2012 11:48 AM PDT

We’re all excited about the Galaxy S III, but some of us may have to contain our emotions and be mindful not to grip the phone too tightly at the bottom. The folks at Don’t Hold It Wrong have just added the GS III to their list of diagrams and state that gripping the GS III at the very base of the phone may result in loss of signal which could directly affect call quality and GPS functions. They also include that doing this could “cause the device to emit unintended levels of radio frequency energy“.

I’m not a scientist, but that sure doesn’t sound too good when they put it like that. I imagine that this is the case with any smartphone these days, e.g. the iPhone 4, so it’s good that we at least are being informed of how the phone is designed and what to be aware of in regards to improving its performance. Samsung Galaxy S III accessory videos

Posted: 11 Jun 2012 10:59 AM PDT

Many of us are itching to get our hands on Samsung’s latest smartphone, the Galaxy S III. The phone has so many cool features built-in, it’s easy to forget that Sammy is also putting out some nifty accessories to accompany their new flagship device. I’m most excited about the WiFi Display Hub enabling you to wirelessly connect your GSIII to your HD TV for some big screen video streaming and gaming action.

The videos below are a bit disappointing as the GSIII is nowhere to be seen, so the presenters just make assumptions about the function of each accessory. At least we get to see the actual size of each item, so here’s to hoping that we’ll get to actually see them in action soon. Hit the break to see some GSIII accessory monologues.

Sony Calling for Fans to ‘Fast Forward’ the Next Mystery Xperia Launch

Posted: 11 Jun 2012 09:20 AM PDT

Sony appears to be ready to launch a new Xperia smartphone on June 22nd but is calling out to ‘Sony fans’ to help push the launch date sooner. Sony is giving people the opportunity to “fast forward” the device launch by clicking the fast forward button and liking their Facebook page. As it stands right now, this little PR stunt has pushed the launch date a day forward to June 21st and will continue to do so the more response it gets.

As far as which device will be unveiled is still a mystery. If we look at previously rumored and leaked Sony Xperia handsets we could make a guess that this is all about the “Hayabusa,” aka LT29i. If you recall, the Hayabusa sports the exact same specs as Japan’s Xperia GX that was just recently released. If this little stunt isn’t about the Hayabusa, than we could very well be in for a new Xperia treat. Let’s all head over to the Sony Facebook page to get this ball rolling so we can see what it is exactly that Sony has up their sleeve. Press “Fast Forward” through the source link below.

Verizon Stores Receive Droid Incredible 4G LTE Marketing Materials Over the Weekend

Posted: 11 Jun 2012 08:51 AM PDT

The Droid Incredible 4G LTE has been rumored to launch across all channels on June 21st and a recent shipment of marketing materials puts us right on track. Over the weekend, Verizon stores received the marketing poster you see above but unfortunately it wasn’t accompanied by an official release date or confirmed pricing. If we can believe an earlier leaked Verizon MAP then we could assume the device to be $149.99 on a two-year contract.

It’s been a little over a month since the device was announced at CTIA and we’ve already seen rumored release dates get pushed back so we are bound to see a release soon. Even though the newest rumored June 21st launch date seems appropriate we can’t say that anything is official until Verizon says so.

USGA releases the official app for the U.S. Open Golf Championship 2012

Posted: 11 Jun 2012 06:21 AM PDT

Golf fans will be happy to learn the USGA has released an Android app for the U.S. Open that looks like it will provide excellent coverage of events at The Olympic Club in San Francisco this week.  The app features live video (US Only) for select holes plus on-demand video, real-time scores, news, photos, course details and player bios.  The app also features live streaming ESPN radio covering every swing of the club, all completely free to users.  Video and streaming radio are available on WiFi, edge, and 3G connections (we assume 4G as well), so there’s no excuse for fans to miss a single stroke.  Hit the break for more images and a download link.
