DropBox Confirms Galaxy S III on AT&T and Verizon Will Not Reap the 50GB Reward

Posted: 09 Jun 2012 01:20 PM PDT

Samsung may have stood up to U.S. carriers to disallow any cosmetic alterations to the Galaxy S III but that’s not to say the carriers won’t screw things up for customers somehow. If you were thinking about getting the Galaxy S III from either Verizon or AT&T, and were banking on the two years of free 50GB’s of Dropbox space, boy do I have some bad news for you. Dropbox just confirmed on their website that the offer as it was announced in the international GSIII unveiling will not apply to us folks in the states. Well, for AT&T and Verizon at least. We still don’t know about Sprint,  T-Mobile and U.S. Cellular. Let’s just hope three out of the five major U.S. carriers still have a heart. Only time will tell.

To see the bad news for yourself you can visit the source link below. Whether you read it here or over there the news still sucks. Sorry folks, I am bummed about this too. Feel free to let out your frustrations in the comments below.

Lamborghini Unveils Luxury Android Phone and Tablet

Posted: 09 Jun 2012 11:50 AM PDT

Lamborghini has unveiled three own-branded phones and one own-branded tablet in Russia. That’s right. The Italian sports car manufacturer will produce these luxury devices. What’s more interesting is that the tablet and one of the handsets will run on Android.

The Lamborghini TL700 Android handset runs on Android 2.3 and features:

  • 3.7 inch WVGA sapphire crystal display
  • Qualcomm processor of unknown speed
  • 5MP rear camera
  • VGA front-facing camera
  • 4GB of internal memory
  • 1,400 mAh battery
The case is made of expensive materials as you might expect, including gold and crocodile skin. The TL700 will run about $2,750.
The L2800 Lamborghini tablet also runs Android 2.3, but is reportedly to receive an update to Android 4.0 at some point. It features:
  • 9.7 inch, 1024 x 768 pixels sapphire display
  • 1.2 GHz Qualcomm processor (probably single core)
  • 5MP rear camera
  • 4GB of internal memory
  • MicroSD card support
  • Pair of speakers on the back
The L2800 will run about $2,290.

Lamborghini also showcased two other phones – the TL688 Spyder and the TL820 Spyder 2. These are just feature phones with similar designs. The TL688 has a 2 inch QVGA display, GPRS / EDGE connectivity, 3MP rear camera, and 4GB of internal storage space. The TL820 has a 2.4 inch screen with a high 640 x 480 pixel resolution, and features 3G, a 5MP rear camera, VGA front-facing camera, 1GB of internal memory (expandable), and a 1,200 mAh battery. As the luxury devices that they are both gold and leather were used to create their cases. The TL688 Spyder will run from 60,000 RUB to 70,000 RUB or about $1,842 to $2,149, and the higher priced TL820 Spyder 3 will run 80,000 RUB or about $2,456. It is expected that all four Lamborghini products will be available beginning in August. There is no word yet about whether these products will make it to other markets.

Lamborghini has ventured in to the mobile space twice before. In 2008 Lamborghini in collaboration with ASUS launched the ZX1 but that project was eventually cancelled. Then in 2009 Lamborghini teamed up with TAG Heuer to introduce the Meridiist Lamborghini, a limited edition handset.

AT&T Motorola Dinara Press Image Leaks

Posted: 09 Jun 2012 11:01 AM PDT

We’ve been hearing about this Motorola Dinara (MB886) for almost a year now and most recently it popped up again in a list of Moto devices set to soon be released. According to some more recent info sent to the folks at The Verge, it looks like it’s about ready to make its stateside appearance. Sporting a 720p display, the Dinara (not yet official name) is slated to make an appearance on AT&T and will use the carriers LTE network. As far as when, well, according to the date shown in the image above it could very well launch on July 26th. Other than that, there is not too much that is known about this device but it’s safe to say this will be a mid-level handset and could possibly be the follow-up to the Atrix 2. Stay tuned for further details.

Say Hello To Verizon’s Motorola DROID RAZR HD Smartphone

Posted: 09 Jun 2012 10:30 AM PDT

Well friends, one of the biggest kept secrets for 2012 is finally out of the bag. After seeing a hint here and another one there– we finally have a clearer look of the upcoming Motorola DROID RAZR HD smartphone. While we already knew Verizon was set to bring the latest 2012 refresh of the RAZR line at some point this summer, both it as well as Motorola has stayed mum and refused to give up any details of the intriguing device. Thanks to our friends at Droid Life, you can see the smartphone sure is a beauty. The overall appearance of the smartphone is similar to the existing RAZR phones, but you’ll notice the back of the smartphone is a pure slab of Kevlar. In addition, you’ll notice the smartphone has its camera positioned right in the middle, which will likely bring a high megapixel count and topnotch video recording capabilities. Also of note is the positioning of the micro HDMI-out and USB ports are at the side of the device, the specific confirmation of the smartphone having the on-screen navigational keys and the ample 3,300mAh battery.

The phone sure is looking like a fine device, isn’t it? While we have a better idea of how the phone will look like, we still are waiting for an idea of when the smartphone will formally land in Verizon stores. The good thing is the wait shouldn’t be too much longer as Motorola already gave us a head’s up the smartphone would be on it’s way soon, very soon.

For a limited time, it can be had for $149 off-contract after an instant discount and $50 mail-in rebate, though it will normally list for $249. Still, for buying it outright, it’s not a bad price.

  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • 800MHz single-core processor

Sony Brings ICS to the Xperia Mini Pro

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 06:54 PM PDT

We reported back in March of this year about the revised update schedule for Sony Xperia handsets. In some instances there were some serious delays which probably resulted in some unhappy owners out there. Holding true to their schedule of updating the Xperia Mini Pro at the end of May or early June, the ICS update is now officially available for download.

Sony is setting itself apart by keeping their word and rolling out the updates to Xperia handsets globally. No failure to deliver in this instance. There were some concerns that devices such as the Mini Pro would not even be considered to receive the upgrade, but Sony surprised everyone by finally making it available for download. In order to access the update you must have the proprietary PC Companion software installed, but then it’s ICS all the way, and some very happy owners indeed. To grab the update for yourself head to the source link below.

ZoomTether Lets You Share Your Phones Data Connection, No Tethering Plan Required

Posted: 08 Jun 2012 06:01 PM PDT

Zoomtel has released an Android app that tethers your phone directly to a Zoomtel 4501 or 4506 modem for some WiFi connection sharing goodness.  Many of us already tether using carrier-approved or carrier-not-at-all-approved methods.  These work well for sharing via WiFi in a limited area and a limited number of devices, and can quickly drain your battery.  Using a Zoomtel Router has some real benefits over the built-in method. For one thing, it offloads the WiFi duties from your phone to the router giving it much better battery life.  It also has a larger range (330 yards) as it’s a real-deal router, and can handle 253 devices simultaneously (though I wouldn’t recommend trying that one).  The 4506 model has its own built-in battery, allowing you to carry it in a backpack or vehicle and spread the WiFi  on the move.  Zoomtel insists all this can be done (probably) without your carrier noticing, but don’t blame them if you get hit with additional charges. Root is not required to use the app, but the ability to sideload it directly from the modem itself is.

All these features could be really for those people without home broadband, or while travelling with a couple people and a lot of devices.  With 4G getting faster and more widespread, the temptation to ditch the Cable/DSL at home gets greater for many of us, even with the bandwidth caps that come along with it.  You can even use the router as a backup at home in case your broadband connection fails.

The Zoom 4506 is about $59 US right now, while you can pick up the 4501 for about $49 US. The  ZoomTether app requires Android 2.2 or later and is sideloaded directly from the modem, so you may need to upgrade the router firmware before it’ll all work.
