Could the Galaxy Note II sport a 1.6Ghz quad-core Exynos processor?

Posted: 20 Jul 2012 01:39 PM PDT

What exactly is the Samsung GT-N7100? I’ll tell you what we know. We know that it has a Exynos 4412 processor with Mali 400 graphics, we also know that the screen resolution is 1280 x 720 with a 16:9 aspect ratio and finally we know that the device is currently running Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich. The reason we know all of this is that a device labelled GT-N7100 has appeared on GLBenchmark listing the aforementioned specifications.

So why do we think the GT-N7100 could be the Galaxy Note II? The first reason is that the GT-N7000 is the original Galaxy Note so following typical Samsung numbering, the GT7100 would suggest the follow up device. Still not convinced? The new aspect ratio points to a screen size greater than 5.5″. Perhaps we’ve taken 2 + 2 and come out with 5 however I believe the GT-N7100 will indeed turn out to be the Galaxy Note II.

Keep tuned in to TalkAndroid as we bring you updates on the Galaxy Note II as they break.

Back in February, at Mobile World Congress, Huawei announced the MediaPad 10 FHD. Although it seems like it’s been ages, a new flashy video of the 10 inch tablet was posted on Huawei’s Youtube channel today. The MediaPad 10 FHD is metallic in color and rocks a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, LTE suport (some models), 16GB of storage, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, 8MP rear camera with dual flash and a front facing web cam. The tablet will also boast a 10.1 inch HD IPS display (1280 x 1200 pixels). Back at CTIA we were able to spend some time with the MediaPad and you can check that out here! Samsung appeal for stay of injunction barring sales of Galaxy Tab 10.1 denied by court

Posted: 20 Jul 2012 09:11 AM PDT

On Thursday, a U.S. appeals court turned down Samsung's request to stay a preliminary injunction barring the sale of Galaxy Tab 10.1 tabs. The preliminary injunction was granted by Judge Lucy H. Koh in patent litigation between Samsung and Apple over the design of the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The injunction was granted on June 26th and bars Samsung from importing or selling the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the U.S. The injunction does not apply to the Galaxy Tab 10.1 II, the current model being sold by Samsung in US markets.

The patent in question involves the design of tablet devices. Judge Koh found the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to be similar in design in "the eyes of the ordinary observer." This conclusion is basically one hundred eighty degrees opposite of recent rulings in similar litigation in the U.K. in which Judge Colin Birss determined the Samsung devices were not as simplistic as Apple's devices and therefore customers would not be confused. Judge Birss has gone so far in that case as to order Apple to issue public statements indicating the Samsung design did not copy Apple.

In addition to refusing to lift the stay on sales, the Court of Appeals also denied Samsung's motion to expedite their appeal of the court's order. Samsung has not released a comment on the ruling.

The Dark Knight Rises for Android is Now Available in the Google Play Store for $6.99

Posted: 20 Jul 2012 08:34 AM PDT

Gameloft told us earlier in the week that they were going to be releasing The Dark Knight Rises on Google Play today. They’ve stayed true to their word as always and released it for $6.99 in the Google Play Store today in conjunction with the national opening of the film in the United States. The game has beautiful graphics along with some good substance. For only $6.99 you’ll have the chance to race across Gotham City either using Batman’s gliding abilities, or by using vehicles such as the Batcycle or The Bat. The two vehicles are a motorcycle and an aircraft, in that order.

With the story tied in with the film and some decent combatant gameplay, you’ve got a pretty good game. Hit the break for download links.

Nexus 7 touchscreen defect surfaces [Video]

Posted: 20 Jul 2012 07:18 AM PDT

There’s been a few complaints on the Nexus 7 as far as the display separating and light bleeding within the display. Now a touchscreen defect has surfaced in which the right side of the screen will stop picking up touch inputs. A lot of people might not notice it since it only seems to be happen after playing a high performance game, as in Tegra 3-optimized, which pushes the hardware.

After playing a such a game for a few minutes, the right side (in portrait mode) won’t pick up a response from your touch or it will detect your touch, but quickly lose the connection. This “dead area” is roughly half the display. This issue won’t be subject to just the game you’re playing as it will be a problem throughout the rest of the UI. Although gaming seems to cause this issue the most, it can be caused from running other applications, but is rare. Since Tegra 3 games are the biggest culprit, it’s possible that it could be an overheating issue.

Sadly there is no fix other than turning off the display and turning it back on which can be annoying, especially if you’re playing a game. Check out the video after the break from Geek.com to see for yourself.

HTC Issues Revised Statement On Desire HD/Desire S Android 4.0 Update

Posted: 20 Jul 2012 07:15 AM PDT

Here we go again with the HTC Desire HD/Desire S ICS update saga. After Telus announced the devices would not get the update, HTC came out with some damage control and said hold your horses— those phones are “still on schedule” to get the update. After some minor deliberation, HTC then revised its stance and wants to do further research in determining the Desire HD/Desire S’s ability to run Android 4.0. Here’s exactly what it had to say on the matter:

“HTC is committed to providing the best customer experience on our devices and are currently determining the ability to support Ice Cream Sandwich on the HTC Desire HD.  We’ll provide more information when we’ve completed our analysis.”

To sum everything up: it’s not quite certain as of now that the Desire HD/Desire S will get the ICS update after all. HTC will have to wait and do further research and investigation to see if those devices can indeed handle the current software. The best case scenario— we’re looking at a serious delay of the update, but at least it will be pushed out eventually to owners of the devices. Worst case scenario— HTC determines after its further investigation that the Desire HD/Desire S will not get the update because it deems they are not capable of handling the software.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed HTC will push out the software to owners of those devices.
