Samsung GT-P8110 Tab Pops Up At FCC – Possible P10 with 11.8-Inch 2560×1600 Resolution Display?

While tablet lovers are anxiously awaiting the arrival and of the Galaxy Note 10.1 launching sometime this month, another mysterious Samsung tab has just made an appearance at the FCC. Filed on Tuesday, the FCC doc doesn’t reveal too much (they rarely do) other than 16GB of internal storage, typical WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and NFC. What’s most interesting is the design of the tab. A clear departure from what we’ve seen on current Samsung tabs like the Note 10.1 or Tab 2 10.1, this one looks like a new line altogether. Rounded corners, camera shape and placement — looks almost like a big square Galaxy S3, doesn’t it?

You may remember an exposed internal document during Samsung n’ Apple’s patent spat revealing a tablet going by the codename P10. That tablet is said to feature a 11.8-inch super high — don’t-you-dare-call-it-Retina — 2560×1600 resolution display. P8110, P10… close enough. Of course this is pure speculation, so don’t hold us to it. We’ll let you guys know when we hear more.

Chase App Makes Mobile Banking Easier With 24 Month Transaction Display, Access to Chase Liquid Acounts, and More

While other mobile banking applications are just now receiving features such as deposit scanning, Chase is moving onward and upward, updating their Android app with new features and enhancements.

Having the ability to scan and deposit checks for months now, the Chase Mobile application now gives Chase customers the the ability to display their last 24 months of transactions, as well as increasing the character count for customers using Pay Bills or Chase QuickPay (a service I use a lot).

Also new today, customers with Chase Liquid accounts can now view and manage their accounts, doing most everything they could do via the Chase website. And for those times when Chase’s online banking is down for maintenance, users will now receive updates in advanced letting them know of scheduled down time. Hit the source link to download or update.

Android Mini Collectibles Series 03 given Q3 launch window, will come with new ball-jointed arms

Posted: 09 Aug 2012 03:55 PM PDT

Andrew Bell took to DYZPlastics’ blog to update us on the situation with the new series 03 mini collectible Android dolls. They originally wanted the dolls to ship by the end of Q2 2012, but that window has long come and gone.

They’re now shooting for Q3 and we understand that this window should be a lot more reliable. But what is the reason for delay? It looks like they’ve had to tweak the production process to make one small (but still rather large) change.

The Android dolls will now be produced with ball-jointed arms for more flexibility! Instead of only being able to move the dolls’ arms up and down you will now be able to move them in and out.

We can finally put it in more of a “waving” position instead of having it look like it’s raising its hand to ask the teacher a question. We’ll let you know once they are ready to start accepting orders on these, or you could keep your own tab on it over at their blog. PS: that little fella you see up above has a name — Pandroid!

Stable builds of CyanogenMod 9 going out tonight

Posted: 09 Aug 2012 03:28 PM PDT

The CyanogenMod team has announced that CyanogenMod 9 will be rolling out to their servers tonight. They’ve mentioned that the majority of the devices which were officially on their radar for Ice Cream Sandwich will be getting stable builds, but a few “stragglers” will be left behind for a short time.

This is great, but when there’s Jelly Bean ready for consumption folks may wonder why the team didn’t just skip this one. Their reasoning is because they don’t like to leave things unfinished, and I’d say that’s a pretty damn good reason.

They also want people to have a taste of at least one modern version of Android while they get to work on the next. Kudos to the team for that one. But there’s still the issue of Jelly Bean to take care of.

You’ll be happy to know that they’ll be moving on from CyanogenMod 9 right away to begin work on CyanogenMod 10. No new features will be added to CM9, but should you choose to flash it you’ll still be getting updates to fix critical bugs.

One more thing to note is that this will effectively kill nightlies for CyanogenMod 9 but that’s because nightlies for CyanogenMod 10 will be taking its place.

There are no stable builds just yet (you’ll see one on the server but it’s not meant to be downloaded) but be sure to check this link later on and get the download specific to your device. [CyanogenMod]

HTC: we haven’t forgotten about the HTC Thunderbolt [Ice Cream Sandwich]

Posted: 09 Aug 2012 02:03 PM PDT

HTC originally promised Ice Cream Sandwich would be going out to the HTC Thunderbolt months ago, but things have been a bit quiet since then.

Verizon customers were getting worried that it might have received HTC Desire HD treatment (in that HTC would eventually go back on their plans to release Ice Cream Sandwich for the device).

Thankfully, HTC has been responding to customers who are worried about the status of the update and are ensuring everyone that they haven’t forgotten about the Thunderbolt.

In fact, they say things are still on track to roll out by the end of this month. While anything could cause a delay (or worse) at this point we can at least be a little more confident that the HTC Thunderbolt won’t get the shaft.

As for Jelly Bean? Well, let’s just say you’ll want to get over to XDA to see what your current options are because we definitely wouldn’t hold our breath for that one.

Entry-level LG Optimus Zip announced for TracFone

Posted: 09 Aug 2012 01:39 PM PDT

It looks like TracFone, the affordable PAYG carrier, will be getting a new Android-based handset. It’s the entry-level LG Optimus Zip. This phone isn’t meant to impress on its own merit, but it should impress in price once it launches. (Unfortunately pricing and availability could not be had at this time.) It’ll have a 3.2 inch display, an 800MHz processor, a 3.2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, and more. See if you can spot this on a hook at Walmart sometime soon.

New version of FlightTrack brings visual refresh and price tag of “free”

Posted: 09 Aug 2012 12:23 PM PDT

Developer Mobiata has revealed its new FlightTrack app, and if this is a sign of things to come we couldn’t be more happy. The new app is free to use and it has gotten a very nice polish to bring it a more contemporary look in the world of Android.

The approach has been simplified — you perform a search for a flight and as soon as you identify the one you’re looking for its flight information spills out onto the screen.

You get a visual map of the area you’re flying over to let you know how long you have until landing. Other information like gate number, terminal, and baggage carousel number help you out when you’re on the ground and looking to exit the busy airport.

It’s FlightTrack like we knew it before, except it looks a lot cleaner and easier to use. But there’s one catch — premium users aren’t getting the visual upgrade just yet, and as such they won’t be getting features like notifications.

We’re not sure if Mobiata just hasn’t finished that version or if they’re planning to roll the changes into this new version and use in-app purchasing for premium features, but for now pro users might want to skip this one (or, since it’s free, use it for the new interface while still hanging on to features of the old one). If you are fine with the relatively minimal functionality head to the Google Play Store for the download.

Wild Blood is the name of the mystery Gameloft game, and the first teaser is here [VIDEO]

Posted: 09 Aug 2012 11:39 AM PDT

A short time ago, Gameloft teased the mobile gaming world with a screenshot for a new game they were working on. We had very little info at the time except knowledge of the fact that it was being developed with Unreal Engine.

They asked users to vote on the piece of information they release next — a teaser or some concept artwork. As you might expect the teaser won in a landslide, and the day has finally come for Gameloft to reveal it.

The name of the game is Wild Blood, and it’s a fantasy game set a long time ago in some unknown location with orcs, elves, and more ugly beings that you’re out to destroy.

The game could be likened to Darksider from what we see here, but with so very little information it’s tough to pinpoint what, exactly, we’re getting here.

We still need lots more information (not even a release window was given) so enjoy the 30 second clip above and be on the lookout for more in the coming weeks.

Verizon Wireless boasts nation’s best customer satisfaction with lowest postpaid churn for Q2’12

Posted: 09 Aug 2012 10:31 AM PDT

T-Mobile released their financial report for the second quarter of 2012 and all the major carriers’ numbers are in. Verizon decided to take this opportunity to let folks know that they are enjoying the highest rate of customer loyalty as they have the nation’s best postpaid churn rate (meaning they lost the least amount of their customers in percentage) for the quarter.

They only lost .84% of their customers. For comparison’s sake, Sprint posted a churn of 1.69%, AT&T posted .97%, and T-Mobile posted 2.10%.

Considering Verizon has 88.8 million postpaid retail customers it’s impressive that they were able to maintain an industry-leading churn. Verizon attributes their success to the growth of their 4G LTE network (which is now covering 75% of Americans, by the way). Verizon’s ruling the air in more ways than one. Read on for the full presser.

VERIZON WIRELESS TOPS INDUSTRY IN CUSTOMER LOYALTY

BASKING RIDGE, N.J. - For the ninth consecutive quarter, Verizon Wireless leads the industry in customer loyalty among U.S. wireless customers with postpaid contracts.  With postpaid churn (turnover) of 0.84 percent, the company reported the lowest customer churn rate of any of the nation’s major wireless providers in the second quarter of 2012.

Churn is a critical measure of customer loyalty, representing the percentage of customers who leave their wireless providers in a given period.  Postpaid contract customers represent the largest customer base for the major wireless companies; Verizon Wireless reported 88.8 million retail postpaid customers out of a total of 94.2 million retail customers in the second quarter of 2012, which ended June 30.  Second-quarter financial performance announcements by the nation’s major wireless companies - the latest was released today - included the following postpaid customer churn rates, based on averages for the quarter:

Carrier

Retail Postpaid Churn

Verizon Wireless

0.84%

Carrier X

0.97%

Carrier Y

1.79%

Carrier Z

2.10%

Verizon Wireless leads the way with the nation’s largest 4G LTE network, covering nearly 75 percent of the U.S. population; an extensive lineup of 4G LTE-enabled devices, such as the Samsung Galaxy S® III and DROID INCREDIBLE 4G LTE by HTC; as well as HomeFusion Broadband℠, which provides high-speed, in-home Internet access via the company’s 4G LTE network.  Additionally, customers can learn the ins and outs of their favorite wireless devices by taking advantage of free Wireless Workshops, offered in-store and online, as part of Verizon Wireless’ award-winning customer care.

Verizon Wireless has invested more than $70 billion since it was formed - more than $6 billion on average every year - to increase coverage and capacity of its premier nationwide network and to add new services.

Sony’s Xperia Tablet improves on Tablet S design

Posted: 09 Aug 2012 08:49 AM PDT

A set of press renders of  Sony’s upcoming Xperia Tablet has leaked, providing our first good look at the next Android slate from the tech icon. Design elements have carried over from last year’s Tablet S, including its trademark folding edge. However, the fold has been better incorporated into the tablet’s streamlined stylings and appears mostly as an aesthetic flourish, though Sony may try to assign some sort of functionality to the bulge as they did with the Tablet S. The tablet does a great job bringing a touch of Xperia to Sony’s lineup of larger Android devices; it looks like the company plans to leverage the success of their handset lineup in pushing their latest slate. Expect to see this one unveiled later this month at IFA.

OUYA goes up for general pre-order, priced at $109 and shipping in April

Posted: 09 Aug 2012 08:06 AM PDT

The folks at OUYA aren’t letting the end of their Kickstarter campaign equal the end of their fundraising efforts. Now that initial goals have been exceeded and the company is hard at work improving the hardware and signing up game developers, pre-orders for the Android-based console have gone live at OUYA’s site. The price tag is slightly bigger for those that missed the chance to become an early adopter at $109, but the cost covers the console, a single controller (the console will support up to four) and shipping costs. While those initially funding the project should see the console in March, new pre-orders will have theirs delivered in April. Head over to the link below for more info.

Samsung Galaxy S Blaze Q press shot suggests mid-August launch

Posted: 09 Aug 2012 07:37 AM PDT

A new press image has surfaced that might provide a clue as to when we can expect the T-Mobule launch of the Samsung Galaxy S Blaze Q. The QWERTY-fied smartphone is shown with a date of Wednesday, August 15th on its home screen, which could be a signifier of the phone’s release date. While not always a sure shot, the “date on the screen” method of divining a phone’s availability has held true in the past.

The Galaxy S Blaze Q is expected to launch with a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4, a 720p display, and Ice Cream Sandwich. In other words, you can expect this device to play as a close relative to the Galaxy S3, the main difference being the addition of a hardware keyboard. We should be learning more very shortly if the August 15th date is to pan out.

LTE-enabled ASUS Transformer Pad TF300 headed to Germany and Austria this month

Posted: 09 Aug 2012 06:14 AM PDT

Reports out of Germany have the LTE-enabled version of the ASUS Transformer Pad TF300 set to launch in mid-August. According to a German press release, the variant gets the model number TF300TL and will retail for €629 with keyboard dock and €529 without. In terms of US dollars, that’s in the $650-$750 range, which is quite a chunk of change more than the non-4G version of the device sells for here in the States.

According to FCC reports, the device operates in the 700MHz and 1700MHz LTE bands as well as the 850MHz and 1900MHz HSPA+ bands. The TF300TL will see the same color options as the standard version of the slate and a carrier-branded option should be available from O2.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 Student Edition bundles keyboard and USB connector, arrives in US in late August

Posted: 09 Aug 2012 05:36 AM PDT

Samsung is looking to milk a few extra Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 sales by repackaging the slate with a keyboard dock and USB dongle accessory and calling it the student edition of the tablet released last spring. The best news, however, is that the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 Student Edition is said to retail for the same $249 price as the regular edition despite the bundled goodies. Rumors have the Student Edition launching at Best Buy on August 19th, which is just in time to appeal to back to school shoppers around the US. The Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 features a 7-inch display, 1GHz dual-core processor, and WiFi connectivity.
