Lookout updates security app in wake of Galaxy S III dialer scare

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 02:23 PM PDT

Remember the big story from earlier in the week where everyone was worried about Samsung’s Galaxy S III  getting remotely wiped?  Do you recall hearing how easy it would be to initiate a remote attack on select Galaxy models?  Yeah, well even after Samsung advised things were actually okay, the threat for such a problem still exists for other Android users. To that end, Lookout has updated its Mobile Security app to better handle such a problem.

For what it’s worth Lookout advises that they are “not aware of malicious examples of a dialer-based attack in-the-wild”,  adding that “it remains a concerning vulnerability: the worst known exploit results in total data loss”.

If you already have Lookout Mobile Security installed on your Android device then you are all set!

Google has optimized its Flight Search experience for tablets today, making it much friendlier on larger display sizes.  Users will now find that Google takes advantage of the extra space that comes with 7-inch screens and larger.  If you’ve not used Google Flight Search to track a flight or book an upcoming ticket then you’re doing yourself a disservice. It’s actually quite handy stuff to have and we’re only too glad to see tablets get some love with the newly optimized site.

Samsung mysterious device coming soon to AT&T?

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 12:00 PM PDT

Samsung is on a hot streak nowadays with devices like Samsung Galaxy S III and Samsung Note II, and their competitors are working on devices to get head-to-head with Samsung. Though, Samsung is not all about “high-end” devices, they are also focusing on mid-range devices as well, because not everyone is interested in “super-phones”.

A device showed up in a NenaMark2 Benchmark test, named as Samsung SGH-I437. In other news, the device is known as Samsung Talos and AT&T will launch it officially in USA. It will feature a Qualcomm 1.5 GHz Dual-Core Snapdragon S4 processor along with Adreno 225 GPU, and a display with resolution of 800×480. Though, it will be running on Android 4.0.4 a.k.a Ice Cream Sandwich, so no Jelly Bean for Talos at the moment.

Well, are you planning to grab this mid-range device from AT&T? Tell us in the comment box below.

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 11:56 AM PDT

Sony today announced that they have rolled out an Android 4.0.3 update to the Tablet S. Unlike other Android 4.0 updates this one adds a significant number of Sony features to the device. Sony stuff like that found in the recently announced Xperia Tablet S.  You know, guest mode, media players, and new widgets… that sort of stuff. If you’ve got one of these tablets and have not noticed the update yet, keep an eye on your notifications.

Sony Tablet™ S Gets Updated In The US

Hey US-based Sony Tablet S owners, we didn't want the new Xperia™ Tablet S owners to have all the fun. You may have noticed a little notification on your device today for a new software update (Android™ 4.0.3). This is a big one that offers all sorts of new cool features, so we wanted to break it down for you.

  • Guest Mode – Easily share your tablet with family and friends! You'll notice in the upper right hand corner you now have an icon for guest mode. This allows you to create additional modes for your friends, children, family members, whoever. You can restrict or grant access to specific apps, and you can customize the wallpaper and icon layout for them.
  • New media player applications (WALKMAN®, Album, Movies) – Our media players have been redesigned and offer some useful new features, so definitely check them out.

You can now add six programmable macro keys, which allow the ability to turn on multiple devices, including TV, Blu-ray Disc™ player and audio system, with the touch of one button. For example, you can program sequenced commands such as "Watch TV" or "Play Music." You can also now choose a different skin for each device so you can easily distinguish between them.
  • New widgets, including Topics – You will also notice new large widgets added to the Home Screen. These show more content, including Topics.
  • Socialife – Social Feed Reader Cloud has been revamped as Socialife. This social news magazine app helps you discover your favorite news, videos and social networking feeds in one place.
  • Watch Now – Make sure you download this app from Google Play™. Watch Now provides an interactive, visual program guide fueled by personal preference and real-time trends from your social media feeds. You can use it to discover new shows based on intelligent recommendations from the app, change the channel with a flick of your finger or share your thoughts on what you are watching via Twitter™, Facebook® or Get Glue.

You will also notice quite a few more little things, like a bunch of new icons and a better copy and paste capability. So get moving, download the software update and get to know all the new features. And let us know, which one is your favorite?

AT&T Continues to Build 4G LTE Android Portfolio with the Addition of Three Smartphones and One Tablet from Samsung

DALLAS, SEPT. 28, 2012 – AT&T*  and Samsung Telecommunications America, LLC (Samsung Mobile)1 announced three new 4G LTE Android™ smartphones– Galaxy Express™, Galaxy Rugby Pro™ and the Galaxy Note® II – and one new 4G LTE Android tablet, Galaxy Tab® 2 (10.1), available in the coming months.

Samsung Galaxy Express

First-time smartphone users will find their perfect match with the Samsung Galaxy Express, a 4G LTE smartphone that combines high performance features at a great price.  Galaxy Express runs Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) and sports a clear and bright 4.5-inch Super AMOLED™ Plus screen.  The 1.5 GHz dual-core processor and 2000 mAh battery helps users stay productive throughout the day; while the 5-megapixel rear facing camera lets you capture and share images easily through text messages, email and social networks.

Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro

An ideal mix of brains and brawn, the Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro gives customers with active lifestyles access to a 4G LTE smartphone that can handle whatever life throws at it.  The Rugby Pro is built to military specifications (810g specifications) and is waterproof**, shock resistant and dust proof.  It features a 4-inch WVGA Super AMOLED display and a 5-megapixel rear facing camera that lets you record HD video in 720p.  Business customers can rest assured that in addition to being protected from every day wear and tear, Rugby Pro also comes with full device encryption and EAS corporate email support.  The device will have access to Enhanced Push-to-Talk functionality upon launch of the service.

Samsung Galaxy Note II

Announced earlier this month, Samsung Galaxy Note II continues to expand the popular category created by the Galaxy Note with improved battery life, a thinner and narrower design and enhancements to the S Pen™.  Arriving later this year running Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean), Galaxy Note II with 4G LTE combines the productivity of a tablet with the convenience of a smartphone and the S Pen features you need to unleash your creativity in a single device.  With a 5.5-inch HD Super AMOLED™ display and 1.6 GHz quad-core Exynos™ processor with integrated graphics processing unit (GPU), the Galaxy Note II provides PC-like processing power and advanced features like Popup Video, new Gallery views and great gaming performance in a truly pocketable device.

AT&T customers have access to the nation's largest 4G network***, covering 275 million people. AT&T has two 4G networks that work together for customers, LTE and HSPA+ with enhanced backhaul. No surprises here;HTC One X+ looks like an HTC One X

Posted: 28 Sep 2012 07:42 AM PDT

The folks over at Pocket Lint have been passed a pair of images for the forthcoming HTC One X+.  The pictures come just a few days after the T-Mobile model was found online and show both the front and the back.  What does it look like?  An HTC One X, of course.  No surprises here considering we’ve been told this is the case all along.  What we really want to be told, at this point, is when we can get our hands on it!
