Google brings Google Wallet to mobile websites

Posted: 02 Nov 2012 02:02 PM PDT

Google is really focused on Google Wallet right now, and they are trying their best to offer it to the masses with the best type of services available. Google is now expanding the Google Wallet payments to mobile websites. At the moment, the service is available for select websites, like 1-800-Flowers.com, Rockport.com, and FiveGuys.com. May be this is the update we heard about a few days ago.

So what’s the point behind this service? Google is trying to make things simple here, instead of adding your  credit card and billing information every time you do shopping, now all you have to do is to sign-in in your Google Wallet account and voila.

Well, the number of sites offering the new feature is very limited but hopefully soon Google will increase the number, and may be a time will come when the option is available on on almost every mobile website. So Google Wallet users, don’t forget to share your thoughts with us in the comment box below.

Sprint launching ZTE Flash on Nov. 11?

Posted: 02 Nov 2012 12:58 PM PDT

Sprint is without any doubt one of the leading networks in the USA, and they also love Android a lot. Back in July, we got some first details about the ZTE Flash, an Android powered device destined to Sprint. Now after 3 months, ZTE Flash is back in the limelight and this time with some extra information.

Now folks over at Engadget got their hands on a shot of an internal document which is telling us that Sprint will launch the ZTE Flash on November 11th with a price tag of $129.99. Honestly, it’s not a bad device and if you are looking forward to a “budget” Android phone, it’s really not a bad choice. It’s featuring a dual-core 1.5GHz MSM8960 processor, Android 4.0, 4.5-inch screen, 12 MP camera on the back and 1 MP on front for video chatting, 8 GB of storage, 1,730mAh battery and last but not least, LTE.

Though if the ZTE Flash is not your cup of tea, then you should check out the $99.99 LG Mach which is coming out on the same day. Well, Nov. 11 is going to be a busy day for Sprint, right? So tell us, are you planning to pick either ZTE Flash or LG Mach from Sprint? Share your thoughts in the comment box below.

comScore: Android inches forward as smartphone sales slow

Posted: 02 Nov 2012 10:46 AM PDT

Android is still the king of the hill when it comes to smartphone market share, according to the newest comScore report.  At 52.5 percent of the U.S. market, Android is up ever so slightly with .9 percent growth since June.  Even as it remains virtually unchanged, it did well enough to beat out Apple who comes in second with 34.3 percent. Bewteen these two platforms, they are up 2.8 percent while the bottom three are down the same percentage.

To be completely fair, there’s next to no iPhone 5 impact on this study and the overall slowing is likely a result of consumers holding on to their devices longer.  That, and waiting for the new iPhone or next, big Android.

Android 4.2 intros new levels of protection, permissions, and privacy

Posted: 02 Nov 2012 09:04 AM PDT

As handy as the Google Play store is, and as good as security apps are for Android, it’s still tough to police apps and games that can be freely found online. To that end, Google is doing its part to compile a database of APK files that find their way online. This is part of an effort to keep users safe and sound and to fully understand the difference between good titles and bad ones.

Via Computerworld

Android VP of Engineering, Hiroshi Lockheimer, tells Computerworld that they have been analyzing these apps and that they assume users will want this extra measure. Additionally, they are taking other steps to ensure you’re protected against the baddies.Continue reading: Android 4.2 intros new levels of protection, permissions, and privacy

Posted: 02 Nov 2012 08:06 AM PDT

Remember the HTC Operaul we reported on last week?  Yeah, well that’s supposed to be the real Facebook phone.  No, for serious you guys.

According to a Pocket-Lint source, that Android 4.1-powered handset will be the “official” Facebook smartphone whenever it eventually surfaces. And, instead of it being the Operaul, it will be operating under the code name of Opera UL.

Details, as learned a few days back, are said to  include a dual-core 1.4GHz processor with Adreno 305 GPU and 1280×720 HD display. The insider advises that said handset has been delayed, however there’s no indication as to what previous expectations were.  Perhaps the recent benchmarks are a sign that things are moving forward?

Android 4.0+ inches forward in overall platform share

Posted: 02 Nov 2012 05:45 AM PDT

Android 4.0+ Ice Cream Sandwich and Android 4.1+ Jelly Bean have notched a few percentage points in the overall breakdown of the platform.  Moving up ever so slightly, the two builds have grown month over month while others slowly diminish.  Most of the movement comes at the expense of Gingerbread, however really ancient stuff like Froyo and Eclair have lost ground.  Nevertheless, Android 4.X devices account for 28.5 percent of the platform, still trailing Android 2.3 Gingerbread and its 54.2 percent

Samsung sells 3 million Galaxy Note II’s in first 37 days

Posted: 02 Nov 2012 05:19 AM PDT

Samsung is well on their way to hitting the goal of 20 million Galaxy Note II sales, having already notched 3 million in just over a month’s time. According to a press announcement on SamsungTomorrow, it only took 37 days time to hit that mark, a rather impressive feat to be certain. While it’s not on the lines of a 5 million weekend like Apple, it’s better than the Galaxy S II from 2011. That phone, as some may recall, took around 55 days to hit the same figure.  It’s worth noting that there’s no U.S. impact on these number yet, something we expect to play big on overall sales.
