ESPN ScoreCenter updated with refreshed and improved UI Posted: 19 Dec 2012 05:44 PM PST ESPN has just made a pretty substantial update to its ScoreCenter app for Android, bringing in a completely refreshed UI experience. The app now follows most of the general Google design guidelines -- aka "holo" -- throughout the app, from removing the legacy menu button to using sliding panels and tabbed navigation. This is a big step forward in design for the app, and it really makes a difference in terms of usability and overall aesthetics. When the big companies like ESPN start getting on board with the latest design guidelines, it's a good sign that people are starting to take notice of the large numbers of devices running Android 4.0 and higher. Google sells Motorola set-top division to Arris Group for $2.35 billion Posted: 19 Dec 2012 05:03 PM PST   A deal between Google and the Arris Group (a cable and broadband equipment supplier) has been reached, making the Motorola Home division now an Arris property. The deal checks in a $2.35 billion in cash and stock for Google, and the boards of both companies have approved. The Home division of Motorola generated 3.4 billion dollars in the last four quarters, and its acquisition should be pretty lucrative for Arris. The $2.05 billion and $300 million in stock also makes Google a 15.7-percent owner of the Arris Group. This sounds like a good business move for all involved, but with the market closed we're unsure how this move will affect the stock prices. Business is business, but many of us were looking forward to seeing what the purchase of Motorola could do for projects like Google at Home or Google TV. Hopefully, we'll still see those projects improved even without Google owning a consumer set-top box division. The full Press release is after the break. read more
