Poll: Who do you want to see make the next Nexus device?

Posted: 28 May 2013 11:34 AM PDT

Now that LG has publicly come out to say they are not making a Nexus 5, we can’t help but wonder, then who? There are a ton of possibilities, some which make less sense than others, but now’s not the time for that. We just want to hear from you: in a perfect world –in your perfect world– who would make the next Nexus smartphone?

Would a real successor to the Nexus One, made by HTC, be your dream Nexus? How about a Samsung Galaxy Nexus 2? Or an LG Nexus 4…2? Should Google drop the Nexus program all together, and start betting on Google Experience versions of flagship devices that already exist? We’re interested in knowing what you think, so we’ve set up a poll below. If you don’t see an option that suits your fancy, let us know in the comments.

Who do you want to see make the next Nexus device?

LG officially announces the white Nexus 4, talks about Nexus 5

Posted: 28 May 2013 11:14 AM PDT

Some two weeks after our own Taylor Wimberly first got his hands on a gorgeous white Nexus 4 handset, LG has officially announced the device is launching May 29 in Hong Kong, making its way around the rest of the world in the weeks to follow.

Spec-for-spec, the white Nexus 4 is identical to the original black model. It still comes with a Snapdragon S4 Pro, 4.7-inch 1280 by 768 True HD IPS Plus display, 2GB of RAM, and of course, stock Android. The only way the two models are different is how they will initially be sold. The black Nexus 4 was released first in the US through Google Play, while the white Nexus 4 will be released first in Hong Kong, and then “will roll out globally in select markets in Asia, North America, Europe and the Middle East over the next several weeks.”

The white Nexus 4 isn’t the only Nexus making the rounds in LG news today. Both the Nexus 5 and a Google Experience LG device were mentioned as not currently on LG’s radar. After a bit of clarification following an interview with Dutch site All About Phones, it was outed that LG is not working on a Nexus 5, though they wouldn’t turn down the opportunity, and that a Google Experience device from the company is not likely. LG Mobile’s European VP, Kim Won, has echoed concerns over Google Experience devices, saying such a device “has no added value for us without our own skins.”

With the success of the Nexus 4, we still wouldn’t count out LG just yet. Until the Nexus 5 is announced, by Google or LG, anything is possible.
