Acer Liquid Glow Visits FCC, Details still on the DL

Posted: 14 May 2012 02:58 PM PDT

As duly noted in most of the world, Acer Liquid series devices rarely make visits to the FCC long enough for us to hear about it.  As a surprise to many, the “Liquid Glow” has been spotted showing the E330 nomenclature at the US agency.  We’re still not sure about many of the details regarding the specs on the device other than the obvious fact that it runs ICS 4.0.  We’re unable to extract any frequencies or remote hints of carrier indication at this time.  The company has stamped a 180-day confidentiality seal keeping manuals and photos out of the hands of the masses.   So, it’s hush hush for now.  As Engadget notes, there’s a possibility that the device is an international GSM handset for North American carriers.  And as most of us are aware, Rogers tends to offer quite a line from Acer, so it’s still entirely possible we could see a launch up north.  Stay tuned as we continue to dig a little deeper regarding specs and availability.

While we told you yesterday that the Galaxy S III would be receiving full accessory treatment we’ve decided to entice you just a little bit more with some video coverage of the accessories in action. The folks over at MobileFun were nice enough to get some video footage of these accessories and thought they’d share it with the world. And we thought we’d share it with you folks.

As we told you before the device will have a cover, spare battery/phone dock, and C-Pen stylus to use. While the wireless charging kit will be delayed until the end of the summer we hope that the videos of the other official accessories in action will be enough to tide you over until they actually become available. Mysterious Samsung SGH-T699 for T-Mobile teased

Posted: 14 May 2012 11:41 AM PDT

What you’re looking at above is a leaked user agent string which, at a glance, appears like some dull lines of code. It’s what’s within that code that gets exciting. It looks like T-Mobile US is all set to bring a new phone to market, codenamed the SGH-T699. What we can also see from the code is that the device is set to sport a 720p display and an ARM11 processor in the engine room.

With all the speculation around the Exynos processor and its supposed absence from the US version of the Galaxy S III, could this be the model number for T-Mobile’s Galaxy S III variation? Whatever the T699 turns out to be, the good news is that a high end device looks to be on the way to T-Mobile. Keep tuned in to TalkAndroid and we’ll be sure to bring further news as soon as it breaks.

No HTC One series phone for Verizon, only the HTC DROID Incredible 4G LTE

Posted: 14 May 2012 11:05 AM PDT

If you were patiently waiting to hear news of an official Verizon HTC One series device, it appears that the wait is sadly over. HTC spokesman, Jeff Gordon, has stated that “Verizon is not going to be carrying either of the HTC One devices currently announced”. This isn’t too surprising with Big Red’s recent announcement of their new DROID Incredible 4G LTE which is basically a mini HTC One S gone goth.

Just to recap, the HTC DROID Inc 4G LTE will sport a 4-inch Super LCD Display, a 1.2 GHz dual-core S4 processor, 8 MP camera, LTE and ICS with Sense 4. As you can see, the only major differences between the DROID Inc 4G LTE and the HTC One S is the slightly smaller screen size and the processor being underclocked to 1.2 GHz versus 1.5 GHz in the One S. All and all, the DROID Inc 4G LTE looks to be a fantastic device for One series fans on Big Red. So who is looking to make the DROID Inc 4G LTE their next smartphone? Anyone upset with this move by Verizon? Let us know what you think!

Get ICS for the T-Mobile Sensation 4G on May 16th, ICS for the Amaze 4G “In the Coming Weeks”

Posted: 14 May 2012 10:58 AM PDT

Back on May 2nd, we told you about the fact that Android 4.0 testing for the Sensation 4G was complete and that the update would be coming “very soon.” Well it appears that this is actually the case as updated documents on T-Mobile‘s web site show that it should be arriving no later than May 16th. The document had this to say:

“Beginning May 16, an optional update will be available for the Sensation 4G to update to the latest operating system, Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich). You can choose to download the update to Android 4.0.3 by following the software update steps.”

While it does say optional, you’d have to be out of your mind to not want Google’s newest flavor of Android. Besides Android 4.0.3 and Sense 3.6 you can look forward to the following:

New Features

  • Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich)
  • Sense 3.6
  • System bar enhancements to easily view recent apps.
  • Re-sizeable widgets
  • Lock screen actions including pull down notifications and adjust volume while device is locked.
  • Data usage controls.
  • Face Unlock
  • Home screen folders
  • Improved battery life
  • Note: HTC Sensation 4G will be required to add Wi-Fi Mobile Hotspot feature in order to use the service after completing this update.

Improvements

  • Improved text input and spell checking
  • Improved menu structure

Prerequisites

  • Manual update
  • Device is running Android version 2.3.3 / Software version 1.50.531.1, 1.29.531.2, or 1.45.531.1
  • Device software is not rooted
  • More than 50% battery life
  • Data or Wi-Fi connection
In other HTC news, the Amaze 4G is looking to be the next device to see Ice Cream Sandwich. T-Mobile updated its support documentation to reflect this as well. It appears that the same features listed above will make their way to the Amaze 4G also here “in the coming weeks.” So HTC Amaze 4G owners should have something to look forward to here within the next week to month. As for you Sensation 4G owners, you only have until Wednesday to wait for your update.  If that doesn’t get you excited I don’t know what will.

Check Out Pictures From the Four U.S. Galaxy S III Variants

Posted: 14 May 2012 10:16 AM PDT

That’s right folks you read the title right. You can check out pictures from all four U.S. S III variant devices. This shows proof that AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and Sprint are expecting to carry the device. While Verizon chose to skip out on the Galaxy S II they are not making that same mistake with the S III. Let it be known that these are pictures taken from each of the devices and not pictures of the devices with the carrier branding. The 8 MP pictures aren’t anything to be too excited about as both subject matter and quality isn’t well, that exciting. But hey, it’s always fun to check out the possible picture quality you’ll be getting if you purchase the device. Enjoy!
