Facebook redesigns news feed and images for Android, mobile page

Posted: 14 May 2012 02:19 PM PDT

Facebook today announced that they have redesigned the news feed for Android and iOS handsets as well as their mobile website.  Effective immediately, users will find that images will display much larger and posts will stretch from one edge of the display to the next. We like the changes thus far and were glad to find that we did not have to download yet another updated version of the app.  You can see the new look simply by opening up the client or visiting the mobile version of the page!

Starting today, we're rolling out an improved design for posts in news feed on your mobile phone. Now photos are up to 3x larger, and all posts will fill your mobile screen from edge to edge. The new design will be available on iOS, Android and m.facebook.com.

Here's a before and after to give you an idea as to what to expect out of the new feed. You'll have to forgive us for using Facebook's iOS pictures below.

Is the Samsung SGH T-699 the T-Mobile Galaxy Nexus?

Posted: 14 May 2012 11:10 AM PDT

A new user agent profile surfacing online this week could be the latest sign that T-Mobile is gearing up for a Galaxy Nexus of their own.  Found under the model number of SGH T-699, we learn that a Samsung handset with 720x1280p HD display is running around. Longtime Android and T-Mobile followers will recognize that the "T" from the model is a great indicator that we'll see this on T-Mobile.

Considering that the T-Mobile version of the Samsung Galaxy S III is expected to carry the model number of T-999, we might assume this to be the Galaxy Nexus.  With Sprint recently launching their own iteration of the Pure Google experience, it would not surprise us to learn that it hits other carriers in short order.  Of course there's the chance that this is a new handset altogether, however we like to think this is the T-Mobile flavor of the Galaxy Nexus.

We wonder how many of you would buy a Galaxy Nexus for yourself and run it on T-Mobile's network.  More specifically, how many of you have not already done so, or would be happy with a two-year service agreement.

More on this model as it develops!

Select Sprint locations opening doors at 8AM for EVO 4G LTE

Posted: 14 May 2012 08:44 AM PDT

Itching to replace your EVO 4G smartphone with this year's true successor, the EVO 4G LTE?  All that comes to an end this Friday (May 18) as the HTC handset arrives at Sprint stores around the country.  While most locations may open at their normal 9AM or 10AM starting time, a smattering of them will get started a few hours earlier.  According to multiple press releases hitting the carrier's newsroom, various stores will open the doors at 8AM.

As of press time, these are the markets which will see the early start time.

  • D.C. Metropolitan Area
  • Colorado
  • Washington
  • Massachusetts
  • Miami
  • Georgia
  • Texas

Should your city or state not be listed yet we suggest refreshing or revisiting the newsroom throughout the week.   Another way to find out is to simply call your local store and ask them. We can imagine that many of you would love to grab one of these on your way to work this coming Friday.

T-Mobile readying Magenta Days BOGO sale for May 18

Posted: 14 May 2012 08:01 AM PDT

T-Mobile looks to be on the verge of announcing another one of their Magenta Deals promotions, according to info scooped up by TmoNews. As it looks today, the Buy One Get One event starts on Friday, May 18 and runs for a week or so, ending on either May 26 or May 28.  Unfortunately, the image is a little fuzzy in the all-important date section.  Either way, this would be a great time to score a great bargain on the following devices.

  • HTC Amaze 4G
  • Samsung Galaxy S II
  • Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G
  • Samsung Exhibit II 4G
  • T-Mobile myTouch
  • T-Mobile myTouch Q

Of course, you'll have to sign the requisite two-year service agreement and deal with a mail-in rebate to get the full savings.  It's unclear whether or not the hot new HTC One S will make the list this time around but we can always hope for a lenient store manager, eh?

T-Mobile: Android 4.0 arrives for Sensation 4G this week

Posted: 14 May 2012 07:32 AM PDT

T-Mobile has updated the support pages for both the HTC Sensation 4G and the Amaze 4G, advising that their Android 4.0 updates are ready to roll.  Starting this week (May 16), the Sensation 4G will get Ice Cream Sandwich, bringing it current with Android version 4.0.3 / Software version 3.32.531.14710RD.  The forum lists the features and prerequisites for the update but we're pretty sure you can figure out the ins and outs.

As for the Amaze 4G, that will see Android 4.0.3  in the "coming weeks", according to T-Mobile.  Although they stopped short of giving an exact time frame, we're optimistic that it won't be long.
