Rumor: DROID Incredible 4G LTE to cost $150 after mail-in rebate

Posted: 14 May 2012 02:47 PM PDT

Verizon wasn’t ready to dive into too many availability details when they first announced the new HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE, but it seems we have at least one side of the story confirmed. According to materials received by Droid-Life, the DROID Incredible 4G could be coming in at $150 under a new two-year agreement.

This falls in line with the competitive price point that Verizon was trying to introduce the phone at in order to attract more wallets. For it to be any higher would be a bit of an insult considering this phone isn’t quite as powerful as other S4 phones on competing carriers. In any case, this’ll be a pretty affordable option up against other 4G phones in Verizon’s arsenal.

Test shots from Galaxy S3 for top four carriers surface

Posted: 14 May 2012 01:42 PM PDT

It looks like Samsung might be on track for a June launch with at least one of their carrier partners here in the United States. Devices are already in the hands of testers and, as you’d imagine, those eager souls have begun uploading photos from the device’s camera to the internet.

PocketNow procured the shots and have provided one from each version of the device. T-Mobile’s sample can be seen above. The shots show us nothing terribly special about the camera itself, though most of these shots are admittedly bad. Take a look at the rest at the source link. Oh, and that T-699 we posted about earlier definitely isn’t the Galaxy S III. [PocketNow]

Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX drops to $200 on contract

Posted: 14 May 2012 01:17 PM PDT

If you want to get one of the longest lasting devices in the smartphone game today, Verizon’s just made their best option a lot more attractive. The DROID RAZR MAXX has taken a $100 price drop. For just $200 you can get a phone that has a 3,300 mAh battery built in and still maintains a thickness profile of just 8.99mm. It also has a dual-core Tegra 2 processor, LTE, and we’re willing to bet it will be one of the first Motorola phones to get Android 4.0 on Verizon. (Though we’re still not sure where Motorola is in regards to that.) If you want to take advantage, you can do so at Verizon Wireless or Amazon Wireless.

Samsung T699 with 720p display for T-Mobile shows up in user agent profile

Posted: 14 May 2012 10:37 AM PDT

T-Mobile may soon be set to introduce a monster of a phone. One Samsung T699 has popped up in a user agent profile. While these don’t tend to give us much information, we can usually count on them to drop one or two nuggets.

This particular phone will apparently come equipped with a 720p display, something that always leads us to believe we’ll be seeing a high-end option. In fact, it might not be too far-fetched to suggest this could be their Galaxy S3.

I’m jumping a bit too far ahead, but considering their track record with Samsung’s flagship line there’s no reason to believe T-Mobile won’t get it. In any case, all we have is a model number and knowledge of what should be a beautiful HD display. [via TmoNews]

Battery life looks promising in early Samsung Galaxy S III tests

Posted: 14 May 2012 08:31 AM PDT

With some manufacturers starting to pick up on the fact that consumers actually care about how long a phone’s battery lasts, Samsung is promising plenty of longevity out of the Galaxy S III’s 2100mAh of juice. GSMArena has managed to get their hands on a pre-release version of the phone and decided to test out Sammy’s claims. They put the GS3 through a gauntlet of battery challenges and concluded that the phone’s battery lasts a full 10 hours of voice and video use.

The number rivals that of the iPad and Transformer Prime, but things aren’t all peaches and cream. For extended webbrowsing sessions the latest Galaxy S clocked in at only five hours, which doesn’t quite compare to the battery life of Motorola’s RAZR Maxx (but what does, really?) or the iPhone 4S. Actual battery life will likely vary, as few will enter into such marathon sessions of use. From the sound of things, it isn’t too unrealistic to expect over a full day’s use on a single charge.

Don’t expect an HTC One device from Verizon any time soon

Posted: 14 May 2012 07:51 AM PDT

Verizon’s recently announced Droid Incredible 4G LTE closely resembles another Android smartphone from AT&T, the One S, but fans hoping for something a bit more like the critically-acclaimed One X are out of luck. AndroidAuthority caught up with HTC rep Jeff Gordon to see about the possibility of a true One series device on Big Red. His response? We won’t be seeing any of the “currently announced” HTC One devices on the carrier. The most powerful member of the One family won’t be making its way to Verizon, nor will the entry-level One V. The Droid Incredible 4G LTE is the closest thing we will get for the time being.

Now, his wording suggests the potential for future One series devices to land at Verizon. It also leaves open the possibility of a rebadged and retooled version of either the One X or One V (much like Sprint’s HTC EVO 4G LTE) . From the sound of it, the latter may be a long shot. If you are tied to Verizon and want anything like the One experience, the Droid Incredible 4G LTE is your best shot for the time being.

T-Mobile pushing Ice Cream Sandwich update for Sensation 4G on May 16, Amaze 4G to follow

Posted: 14 May 2012 07:21 AM PDT

T-Mobile has just updated their support page with the changelog for the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the HTC Sensation 4G. The new software version, which is numbered 3.32.531.14710RD, will bring the phone to Android 4.0.3 and Sense 3.6 beginning May 16th. The update will be available to all users running the most current Gingerbread builds for the device and can be pulled navigating to “HTC software updates” from the Setting menu.

T-Mobile is also prepping an ICS update for the HTC Amaze 4G, though a date is not set in stone. It is expected to deploy shortly after the Sensation 4G receives its taste. The changelogs and full instructions can be found at the links below.

Padfone 2 already on the ASUS slate, will feature 4G

Posted: 14 May 2012 06:26 AM PDT

ASUS is ramping up for the launch of the long-awaited Padfone three-in-one concept. The gem of Mobile World Congess, the phone within a tablet within a laptop promises to be one of the most intriguing device rollouts in a long while, but it remains to be seen if the concept catches on with the general public. ASUS is at least looking for the Padfone to catch on with business users, and is already looking ahead to a Padfone 2.

A few leaked slides from an ASUS employee strategy debriefing peg the second Padfone (represented here as the Padfone2) as a “key player” in the smartphone market. Of course, to achieve such a status the device will need top-of-the-line specs, and ASUS plans for the next edition of the Padfone to ship with 4G compatibility.

Little else is known of the device, but if it takes a page from previous ASUS releases in the Android-powered Tranfromer line we could be seeing the update sooner rather than later. The manufacturer has opted to focus less time on redesigning the external appearance of their tablet line in order to focus on update the internal specifications in a timely (if not a bit too timely) manner.

HTC Desire C appears in Vodafone’s latest product catalog

Posted: 14 May 2012 05:46 AM PDT

Another product render of the device codenamed HTC Golf has made it our way courtesy of Vodafone Portugal’s latest product catalog. As was first suggested last week, the the phone that looks like an infant member of the One family should launch as the HTC Desire C. The listing provides official details on the phone’s specs,  confirming the Desire C’s 3.5-inch HVGA display, 5MP camera, and 600MHz processor. The handset will run Android 4.0.

No official announcement has been made by HTC or Vodafone, but one could be coming soon. A release this month seems likely.

LG Spectrum has an update incoming, plenty of tweaks but no Ice Cream Sandwich

Posted: 14 May 2012 05:28 AM PDT

An update is prepped and ready to roll out to the LG Spectrum, according to a changelog posted to Verizon’s site late last week. Software version VS920V6 weighs in at 127MB, but don’t let its size fool you into believing this could be Android 4.0. Instead, the update will raise the Spectrum’s Android version to 2.3.6 while providing sweeping fixes for everything from inaccurate calendar notifications to applications crashes. The update also tweaks email and web browsing capabilities and pushes updates to a host of Google and Verizon apps.

The presence of the update documents on Verizon’s support site is a clear indicator that Spectrum users should expect the new software to arrive within the next week or so.

Acer Liquid Glow stops by the FCC

Posted: 14 May 2012 05:15 AM PDT

The Acer Liquid Glow has arrived at the FCC’s doorstep, earning the necessary approvals for release…somewhere. Other than a label verifying model number E330, little more is revealed thanks to a 180-day confidentiality agreement. Without a peek at the Liquid Glow’s radio bands predicting which carriers it may launch on is difficult. There has been no evidence to suggest the handset will see a US release. It’s not outside the realm of possibilities, though. Acer has has a few phone’s make their way to Rogers in Canada, so that remains an option as well. Then again, we could be seeing the international GSM model.

The Android 4.0 phone will be launching soon by the looks of it. We haven’t seen much of anything about the device since we got our first look at Mobile World Congress. For now, though, it’s final destination will remain a mystery.
