| HTC One with Nexus User Experience hits Play Store on June 26th for $599 Posted: 30 May 2013 09:07 AM PDT Rumors suggested that we might see an HTC One with the Nexus user experience, and today Google’s Sundar Pichai confirmed the device will hit the Play Store on June 26th for $599. HTC’s “Google Edition” device will land the same day as the previously announced Samsung Galaxy S4 “Google Edition”, which will retail for $649. A representative from HTC said, ”A special edition of the new HTC One running stock Android will be exclusively available through the Google Play store in the United States starting on June 26th. This edition pairs the all-metal unibody design, low-light capabilities of the UltraPixel camera and dual front-facing stereo speakers of the new HTC One with the stock version of the latest Android software, Jelly Bean 4.2.2.” According to HTC’s site, the HTC One with Nexus user experience will be exactly like the SIM unlocked and Developer Edition. That device featured the same hardware as AT&T’s version, but with slightly altered software. That means the HTC One with Nexus experience will operate on all of AT&T’s networks, but it will be limited T-Mobile LTE and HSPA+ on the 1900 MHz band. Sundar Pichai also stated that even though they are releasing several “Google Edition” models of popular Android smartphones, the Nexus brand will continue to live on. We still don’t know which company will produce the next Nexus, but our audience really wants to see Google to return to HTC.

| Mid-range Samsung Galaxy S4 mini announced Posted: 30 May 2013 07:20 AM PDT With the Samsung Galaxy S4 currently outpacing the competition in the high-end smartphone landscape, Samsung has now introduced the Galaxy S4 mini – a mid-range smartphone for those who prefer a smaller device at a lower price point. While the name may imply that the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini is simply a miniaturized S4, the device specs are a far cry from what you’ll find in Samsung’s flagship Android device. The Samsung Galaxy S4 mini sports a 4.3-inch qHD (960×540) SuperAMOLED display, 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage (approximately 5GB of usable space), support for 64GB microSD card, 8 and 1.9 megapixel cameras and a 1,900mAh battery. The S4 mini measures 124.6 x 61.3 x 8.94mm, making the device significantly smaller than the 136.6 x 69.8 x 7.9 mm size of the Galaxy S4. On the software side, the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini will be packed with many of the same features that were introduced by its larger sibling. The device will run on Android 4.2.2 with the latest version of TouchWiz which features Shot&Sound, S Travel, Story Album, Group Play, ChatOn, Samsung Hub, Samsung Link, S Health, Adapt Display, Adapt Sound and much more. | US assembled Moto X could hit shelves as soon as this summer Posted: 29 May 2013 07:38 PM PDT Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside dropped a bombshell during his interview at the AllThingsD conference: The Motorola X Phone is real. It’s going to be called the Moto X, it will be the first smartphone to be assembled in the US, and it could be available as soon as this summer. While specific details on the hardware of the Moto X are scarce, Dennis Woodside shared some select information on the device that has us excited for more. According to Woodside, the Moto X will feature an OLED display, but that’s not going to be the device’s big draw. The Moto X will feature a handful of unique sensors, differentiating it from other smartphones on the market. “We know when it’s in your pocket, we know when it’s in your hand, it’s going to know when you want to take a picture and fire up the cameras,” said Woodside. This contextual awareness matches up with earlier rumors of “creepy intelligence” that could predict what a user wanted to do with their phone before they did it. Original details on the Moto X included a unique stock Android experience Google can’t provide with Nexus devices, due to a lack of total control. Woodside is sticking firm to claims that Motorola is operating completely outside of Google’s control, but did admit that Android head Sundar Pichai has seen it. Woodside was very proud of the fact that the Moto X is going to be the first smartphone assembled, designed and engineered in the US. In a factory in Texas that was used to assemble Nokia phones, Motorola will be assembling the Moto X with some parts sourced from outside the country. As for when the Moto X will be released, Woodside said, “by October.” But a press release has been issued that says it will be available this summer. | Connect the dots, man: Is Google teasing Android 4.3 in promotional Gmail video? Posted: 29 May 2013 07:37 PM PDT I love the smell of a good conspiracy in the evening. It’s pretty well accepted at this point that the next version of Android to be released is 4.3. But we still haven’t seen any concrete evidence of this. Or have we? Google Plus user Derek Ross has noted that in the recently released promotional video for the new Gmail, the clock on the Nexus 4 being used to show off the revamped Android app shows a time of 4:30. 4.3, 4:30? Purely coincidence, right? Not so fast. According to Ross, this follows a similar pattern of previous Android releases. By looking at promotional materials for other Nexus devices, you’ll find that the Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7, Nexus 4 and Nexus 10 were all featured in promo shots where the time on their clocks corresponded to the version of Android they were launched with, or running at the time. GottaBeMobile did some digging on these claims, and found a video of the Nexus S showing a time of 2:30, a Nexus 7 at 4:10 and a picture of the Galaxy Nexus at 4:00. If you head over to Google Play right now, all of the renders of the Nexus 4 and 10 show a time of 4:20. It looks to be that way for the Nexus 7 as well. So what does it all mean? Not a whole lot. We just thought it was neat. This could, of course, all be coincidence. But with Google’s love of Easter eggs and hidden messages, we’d be very surprised if this wasn’t another one of Google’s hidden treats.
