Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 appears at FCC with AT&T LTE

Posted: 20 Jun 2013 12:00 PM PDT

Samsung officially announced the Galaxy Mega 6.3 back in April, an Android smartphone with a ‘mega’ display. In the same month, FCC hinted that we might see the Galaxy Mega 6.3 on AT&T and now the handset is back again at FCC, bringing some new details with it as well.

galaxy-mega-att-lte-fcc-540Everything else is the same, however the new filing is showing support for AT&T LTE. Now all we have to do is to wait for AT&T to let the cat out of the bag. However, FCC filings are not always 100% concrete evidence but we can still hope to see this device at AT&T. Although, if you are interested in the Galaxy Mega 6.3, you can grab the unlocked version from Expansys for $595.

Galaxy Mega 6.3 packs Android 4.2 Jelly Bean with TouchWiz along with some good features, and a huge display which is really big for a smartphone in my opinion, but that’s the trend nowadays. Tell us what are your thoughts, will you grab it if it lands at AT&T? Share it with us in the comment box below.

Samsung debuts 20-megapixel Galaxy NX

Posted: 20 Jun 2013 11:55 AM PDT

galaxy_nx_intro_720Samsung has just pulled the curtain back for its latest Android-powered device, the Samsung Galaxy NX. You’ve likely heard rumors of this product over the last few weeks; it’s a mirrorless Android camera with support for Samsung’s interchangeable NX lenses.

Details include Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, a 20.3-megapixel APS-C sensor, 4.8-inch HD TFT LCD display, and a slew of photo and video settings. As you might expect there are plenty of options to choose from so that you capture the right moment in exactly the manner you’d hope. Smart Mode? Please, that’s just the beginning; there are more than 30 modes to choose from.

Other hardware features include a 1.6 GHz Exynos 5 Octa processor, 2 GB RAM, and  WiFi, HSPA+ and, on certain models, 4G LTE connectivity.

One of the key features in this camera is the Advanced Hybrid Autofocus system which allows users to focus with speed that typical mirrorless cameras don't achieve. Add in the 1/6000th of a second shutter speed and 8.6 frames per second and you’ve got one speed demon on your hands.

We will update this post with additional details as they come to us.

Bee-Do! Grab these Despicable Me inspired Android minion wallpapers!

Posted: 20 Jun 2013 08:06 AM PDT

So the other day I was looking at some Despicable Me 2 promotional material and thought, “Hey, these guys would make great Android characters!” Shortly thereafter I was chatting up my friends at Cruzerlite as they have created some really cool Android wallpaper and smartphone cases designs. It didn’t take much convincing or back-and-forth to get on the same page.  ”We’re on it!”

Jump ahead a day or so and we’ve got three new wallpapers to share with you guys!  Suffice it say, these turned out exactly the way I pictured them in my head. Respect knuckles to the Cruzerlite art department.

Homepack Buzz officially releases Buzz Launcher and announces design contest to celebrate

Posted: 20 Jun 2013 07:22 AM PDT

Homepack Buzz officially announced this morning that their popular free smartphone theming service, Buzz Launcher, is no longer in beta mode. Buzz Launcher 1.0 is now available on Google Play.

Not sure what Buzz Launcher is? This app utilizes the most distinctive feature of Android smartphones: the freedom of customization. It allows Android users to easily create their homescreens at the touch of a button. Users are given the ability to download, create, apply, upload, design, and innovate any number of homescreens for free. One can also rate, comment, like, follow and share homescreens with any social network.

According to the team at Homepack Buzz, the app has about 15,000+ homescreens for Android users to freely choose and share from, and version 1.0 is faster, smoother, and easier to use than the previous Buzz Launcher Beta version. They plan on continuously updating the app, and say a brand new 'Follow' function will be introduced shortly, allowing users to keep up with their favorite designers and easily get updates on their favorite designs.

Along with the release of the Buzz Launcher 1.0, Homepack Buzz has also announced a Global Design contest. A nice $10,000 in total prizes is up for grabs and will be awarded in two separate categories: the best designed homescreen and the top sharer of homescreens. Buzz Launcher's 2013 Global Design Competition begins today (June 20th) and runs through July 15, 2013. For more information on Buzz Launcher 1.0 as well as their 2013 Global Design Contest, click here.

NVIDIA Shield gets last minute price drop ahead of June 27 launch

Posted: 20 Jun 2013 06:19 AM PDT

nvidia_shield2

Listen up, mobile gamers! NVIDIA, listening to the feedback of the community, has dropped the price of the Shield one week ahead of its launch. Now, instead of carrying a $349 sticker, the gaming and entertainment device will cost only $299.  Indeed, that’s exactly the price I’ve told friends to make a definite must-buy product.

Since then, we've put SHIELD in the hands of thousands of gamers. Some have been professional press. Others have been inside our own company. But most have been people like the tens of thousands who streamed through our booth at PAX East and E3.

Also of note, we’re now one week away from the release of the NVIDIA Shield; the official debut is June 27!

But what if you pre-ordered the Shield when it was $349? No sweat, you’re only charged $299 when it goes on sale!

I am one of those professional press listed above as I got to spend an hour with it in New York. It’s a great device and something I feel gamers would really appreciate. Things work well across both Android and PC streaming and the details (graphics, particles, smoke, lighting, bloom, etc) are nothing short of breathtaking.  In short, I’m all over this when it comes out and suggest you are as well.
