Vine for Android updates to version 1.1 bringing some much needed improvements to the popular video-sharing service

vine

The increasingly popular video-oriented companion to Twitter, Vine, has updated their new Android app to version 1.1 bringing some very important improvements to the app, which currently has an average rating of 3 stars. Today’s update brings huge improvements to performance including quicker capture speed, higher quality and improved audio/video synchronization. Users now have the ability to clear their local cache in the app’s settings, search for users and hashtags and share videos to Facebook. Finally, the developers have included some bug fixes and tweaks to the UI.

The ability to clear the cache is crucial for any app dealing with video, but the feature is still not perfect. While it erases any unposted Vines from your storage, it doesn’t change the fact that its saving those unposted files in the first place. The next logical step would be to include an option to save or trash the unposted Vines in the first place. Hit the download link below to give the updated version of Vine a test-drive.

Sony tease new SmartWatch with an announcement expected at Mobile Asia Expo

Posted: 22 Jun 2013 07:16 AM PDT

Sony-SmartWatch-teaser-640x640

Sony are no strangers to technology innovation, especially in the portable space. The same company that brought us the WALKMAN also brought us the first “smart” watch in 2007, two points they made very clear in recent tweets with hashtags #itstime and #MAE13 (short for Mobile Asia Expo). These tweets and a couple more in the same vein seem to indicate that Sony have a new SmartWatch up their sleeve (pun absolutely intended).

Aside from the Mobile Asia Expo, Sony has some upcoming media events in Shanghai and Europe in the coming weeks, where they are expected to announce their hotly anticipated 6.4-inch phablet, presumably alongside an updated SmartWatch. The timing is perfect as multiple companies including Google and LG have stepped into the smartwatch arena, and as Sony knows, there is always room for innovation.

Android 4.2.2 test build for Samsung Galaxy S III leaked

Samsung-Galaxy-S-III_21-420x236

As the summer solstice was drawing to a close, SamMobile released a leaked test version of Android 4.2.2 firmware for the Samsung Galaxy S III. According to sources, Samsung is still testing the Android 4.2.2 build and may still be in the process of adding features such as the Samsung Galaxy S 4‘s camera features. The official release of Android 4.2.2 for the Galaxy S III is expected some time in July or August.

While the latest build may be missing the Galaxy S 4′s camera functions for now, it is clear Samsung is bringing over many features from their latest flagship to its predecessor. The new build includes Galaxy S 4 lockscreen features like the addition of the Light unlock effect, an improved Ripple effect, the ability to add multiple lockscreen widgets, change the clock size, and setup a personal message.

The Settings UI has been overhauled to incorporate a tabbed interface, making it look just like the Galaxy S 4 version. Voice controls have been added so different functions of the phone can be controlled in that manner, again, a Galaxy S 4 feature being replicated on the Galaxy S III. Other smaller improvements include things like a white background for the gallery modes, a smart switch widget, driving mode, the Daydream feature, and improvements to the notification center/shade.

The firmware is intended for the international Galaxy S III. If you think you want to give it a try, hit the source link for the install instructions and the download link. The firmware is not officially released or supported by Samsung, so you are taking the risks of bricking your smartphone in your own hands.

Note-III-final

A Chinese source has leaked another image of what appears to be the highly-anticipated Samsung Galaxy Note 3. It carries Samsung’s signature plastic design with a prominent home button and a huge (possibly 6-inch) screen with virtually no bezel. Rumored specs for the device look promising including a 1080p display, Snapdragon 800 processor, 3GB of RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera and S-Pen functions.

The device will presumably run Android 4.2.2 and could be announced at this year’s IFA event in Berlin September 6th. All of you phablet enthusiast let us know in the comments if this is the phone you’ve been waiting for.
