| White Nexus 4 has left the Play Store Posted: 04 Jul 2013 12:13 PM PDT Both the 8 and 16GB versions of the white Nexus 4 have been shifted to “no longer available for sale” after just over a month in the Play Store. This device was basically the celebrity marriage of Android phones with rumors about it swirling for months and then just a short lived stint together with the Play Store. If you are in the rarified position of both being desperate for this phone and being on T-Mobile then you are in luck as they continue to have it for sale and while the price is a bit higher you do get a free wireless charger to ease the pain. This was always pitched as a limited edition device so there’s no reason to let this fuel speculation about a Nexus 5 just yet, although with about 8 months on the odometer for the Nexus 4 we are encroaching on the logical timeline for solid information to start showing up about the successor. Google falling back to a lone color option is a bit funny right now in light of Google’s own Motorola being on the verge of unleashing the full rainbow on customers with the Moto X. Safe to say there is a slightly different target audience for the two devices though and that those that crave the purity of the Nexus are likely willing to forgive the lack of customizability. Did any of you snag a white Nexus 4 while they were available or did you steer clear in hopes of a Nexus 5 arriving in the next few months? |
| Meet Android and Me: Dima Aryeh Posted: 04 Jul 2013 09:00 AM PDT Hey, guys. My name is Dima Aryeh. My life story is pretty simple. I moved to the US from Ukraine when I was three years old, so I’m fluent in English (you won’t be seeing grammatical mistakes from me!), but I can also fluently speak Russian. I was raised in a strict Russian family, so you can imagine how fun that was. But I ended up pretty badass and hard working, so it turned out well. I currently spend my time working for Android and Me and spend all my money on women and cars. And by women, I mean woman (I swear, honey). I met my girlfriend on the first day of high school, and immediately became best friends with her. Almost four years later, I successfully broke out of the friend zone. So alpha. Here is a photo of us at prom a few years ago:
What I don’t spend on her, I spend on my car. I drive a 1996 Toyota Corolla, which is my pride and joy. Not content with US parts, I’m in the process of doing a JDM conversion. It’s been expensive to say the least. Plus, the car was abandoned for 6 years before I got it, so it took quite a bit of work to get it running perfectly. But here she is, running like a Swiss watch.
No makeup I got my first smartphone in freshman year of high school, almost five years ago, when I upgraded to an iPhone 3G. That day, knowing nothing, I managed to jailbreak it and began my journey into smartphone modification. I knew about Android, but it was simply too unpolished for my taste at the time. But with the release of the HTC Hero, my interest was piqued. My first Android phone was a Samsung Galaxy S, and yes, it was rooted almost immediately. Then came the adventure of dealing with slow Android updates, flashing experimental ROMs from all sorts of other Galaxy S variants, making themes and making a lot of friends in the rooting community. It was an incredible experience, and my passion for Android exploded. I moved on to the Galaxy S II, then the Galaxy Note II, and fell in love with the giant form factor. I stick with Samsung due to their use of microSD slots, unlocked bootloaders and good update policy. My old Galaxy S II got the update to Android 4.1.2 with the version of TouchWiz from the Galaxy S III, and with that, Samsung really earned my loyalty. What I’m most excited aboutAfter joining Android and Me, I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of comments we get. I love interacting with my readers, and the comments section and the forum on Android and Me is perfect for that. I am very excited to socialize with you guys much more and tailor my content to your liking! What I’m going to do here at Android and MeI’ll be doing everything I always have: writing good content. This will be news, editorials, reviews and various other things. I look forward to throwing up controversial pieces and having all of you rage at me; it’s the fun of the job! What devices have I owned?Looking back, my first phone was the Nokia N-GAGE QD. I still adore that thing. Then I got a Motorola SLVR L7, an absolutely gorgeous phone and my first taste of metal construction. Good times. In terms of smartphones, I went from an iPhone 3G to a Samsung Galaxy S, then to a Galaxy S II, then Galaxy Note II. Just waiting for my next purchase: The Note III. In terms of tablets, my first was a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 (I know, Samsung fanboy!). The form factor was unrivaled, and I still miss that thing. So thin and light! Then I managed to pick up an I/O Nexus 7, which was great. Now I’m content with a Galaxy Note 8.0, which is a great size and thinness. Gotta have that S Pen. What phone do I daily drive?I adore my Samsung Galaxy Note II. Running on AT&T LTE, this thing is literally perfect. I can’t even complain that it isn’t 1080p. The size, S Pen, features, giant battery and expandable storage all come together to make the perfect device for me. I don’t plan on switching phones until the next Note comes out, or something game changing is released. Samsung, goddammit, don’t let me down! Facts about me

| Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail album now free to download for Samsung Galaxy owners Posted: 04 Jul 2013 08:53 AM PDT I’m sure many of you will be sitting around the barbecue sometime in the next few days waiting for the next round of fireworks to be launched skyward. Apologies to those of you not in the U.S. who are less likely to be doing these things over the next few days, but regardless of where you are I do recommend barbecuing and fireworks. But I digress. So while waiting for the next round of food, beverage or fireworks what better way to pass the time than with a free Jay-Z album? This was my long winded way of telling you that the new Jay-Z album is finally available for free via the Jay-Z Magna Carta app in the Play Store. You may remember that the album will only be free for the first million to download it through the app and the Play Store counter for the app is sitting at the 500,000 to 1 million mark at the moment so time is running out. The app is only compatible for Samsung Galaxy S4, S III and Note II owners in the U.S. (or those that can convince the Play Store that they meet those requirements) and forces you to authorize through either Twitter or Facebook; so if any or all of those stipulations are a problem don’t worry about hitting the link below. As we have said previously this an interesting play from Jay-Z as these downloads don’t count toward his Billboard results, although hardly risky given his stature and the fact that Samsung reportedly shelled out around $20-30 million for this exclusive. Do you think this was money well spent for Samsung? Update: It took about 10 minutes for the download option to show up for me on the album after the app downloaded. A reader reported that the album wouldn’t play after downloading it. Anyone else having problems with the app? |
