Those in Europe saw Android 4.2.2 begin arriving for the HTC One earlier in the month. As of today however, that update has begun arriving for those in the UK market. HTC had previously said this would be an aggressive rollout and they have since confirmed the UK arrival by way of the @HTC_UK Twitter account.
The message posted shared details about how the update is arriving in the UK as of today and those looking for the update can head to Menu -> Settings -> About -> Software Updates -> Check Now to get the process started. Well, that or take the casual approach and wait for the update notification to arrive. Either route you take the end result will be the same — Android 4.2.2 with Sense.
This update is big in terms of size. Details from the changelog show it measuring in at 416.46MB in size and that only comes after a starting update that measures in at 1.47MB. Simply put, this update will probably be best done using a WiFi connection. But that aside, those in the UK that happen to be carrying an HTC One have the following to look forward to seeing.
- Launcher bar enhancement
- Widget panel rearrangement
- New lockscreen style widget
- Enhanced Home button behavior
- Home button options added to make navigation menu bar removable
This update also added the option to show the battery level (in percentage) in the status bar and brought some notification shade related improvements. Some of these include a Quick Settings panel with 12 default settings. These settings include quick toggles for items such as WiFi and Bluetooth. This update also added six additional themes for Zoe highlights and changed the file format to address earlier complaints about seeing lots of almost identical files.
Otherwise, looking back to the Home button and we see changes that deal with Google Now, a long-press and swipe up. Basically, this update has remapped the Home button and a long-press now pulls up the context menu and a swipe-up now launches Google Now. With that, grab your handset and either look for the notification or dive into the settings to try and get the process started.
