Tech Blog techkitty is reporting that Amazon will announce a new Kindle Fire device later this summer. The site is reporting that an announcement will happen in late August, which conveniently fits Amazon's timeframe for new device roll-outs.

There is, of course, no official word from Amazon, but some interesting clues hint to a new device. According to Chinese site UDN, Amazon has awarded an RFP for one million tablet housings to Compal, the second largest PC manufacturer to Quanta, which got the nod for last year's Kindle lineup. The change is said to be a desire for materials, as the report goes on to note the one million orders Amazon placed were for metal housings.

Aside from being metal, the display resolution across the Kindle lineup is reported to be receiving an upgrade.

Aside from being metal, the display resolution across the Kindle lineup is reported to be receiving an upgrade. The Kindle Fire is jumping to 1280×800 from 1024×600, while the Kindle Fire HD will see a 1920×1200 screen packed into it's metal housing. Techkitty is reporting the 8.9" Kindle Fire HD will have a 2560×1600 display, but there was no mention of that in the original report.

Amazon recently put their Kindle lineup on sale, so we have been expecting a new device for the fall. If news of an updated metal housing and display improvements are accurate, and Amazon can deliver on the price point we've grown accustomed to with the Kindle tablets, these are almost must-have devices. If we could readily get the Play Store on them (without rooting or other fussy methods), they'd truly be a staple for Android fans.
