Aug 20th 2013, 21:09, by Cory Gunther

Samsung is aiming to dominate the super-sized smartphone market with their new Galaxy Note III later this year, and now we have a potential release date. As we already know, the Galaxy Note III will be revealed on September 4th in Germany at Samsung’s Unpacked media event, but now new sources claim it will ship that week too.

According to sources over at SamMobile, the folks from Samsung will be shipping the massive 5.68-inch smartphone to multiple carriers the first week of September. Then once they reveal the device on the 4th they will follow that announcement up with an even bigger one. That being that the Note III will hit shelves in mid September, which means pre-orders could potentially open on the 4th or 5th.

The report goes on to state that mid September we’ll see the Samsung Galaxy Note III on shelves and in customers hands, then sometime in October Samsung will also release the Galaxy Gear Smartwatch. A device they’ll also be unveiling come early next month.

Vine user base grows to 40 million
Aug 20th 2013, 20:55, by Robert Nelson

Instagram announced they had reached the 130 million monthly user milestone back in June. That reveal came at the same time they announced the 15-second Vine-like videos. That of course spurred discussion about how Instagram was the better app and how they were going to steal users from Vine. Well, while Vine may not have the 130 million that Instagram has, they have just shared a rather respectable number of their own.

The details were shared in a recent Twitter posting from the official @vineapp account. In short, they now have more than 40 million users. Aside from talk of numbers, the folks at Vine also shared how they feel that community of users is “amazing” and how they are “inspiring.”

Current user numbers aside, we also have to take a look at the Vine app. This originally landed in the Google Play Store on June 3rd and while the app was lacking some features in the beginning — regular updates have added quite a bit in these few months. Also just for reference, Vine had announced they had roughly 13 million users at the time the app launched for Android.

Not only has the app improved, but the user base has grown considerably. The most recent Vine for Android update arrived earlier this month and added push notifications and also improved sharing. But before that we had seen new capture tools and a new widget, front-facing camera support and a rather nice update that arrived shortly after Instagram Video did.

Also worth mentioning, in addition to the Play Store availability, Vine for Android arrived in the Amazon Appstore in early-July. That all being said, it seems that if you pushed Vine aside due to lack of features after Instagram Video was introduced — it may be time to give the app another look and add to that growing user base.

Samsung Galaxy NX camera now shipping in the UK
Aug 20th 2013, 20:21, by Robert Nelson

We got an early look at the UK pricing for the Samsung Galaxy NX camera when product listings appeared with a few retailers back towards the end of July. Since then talk of the camera had gone quiet, but in a bit of good news for those who may have been waiting — the Galaxy NX is now shipping in the UK. So far listings have appeared with four retailers however we expect that list will grow with time.

For now those listings can be found with Jessops, Currys, PC World and Wex. All four have the camera listed at £1,299. Time will tell how well received the Galaxy NX will be once it begins appearing in more users hands, however it is hard to ignore that price tag. For that you are getting a camera that takes a big step up from the Samsung Galaxy Camera. In fact, you will be getting something that was designed to compete with other DSLR models.

The Galaxy NX is the first-ever Android camera to ship with an interchangeable lens setup and in this case those making the purchase can expect an 18-55mm lens to begin. The camera also touts a 20.3 megapixel APS-C sensor, 16GB of internal storage space and a memory card slot with WiFi and 4G LTE for connectivity.

The camera is powered by a quad-core 1.6GHz processor paired with 2GB of RAM and is running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. There is also a 4.8-inch touchscreen display. In terms of performance, Samsung has previously said the Galaxy NX will be capable of shooting at 8.6 frames per second with a shutter speed of 1/6000.

That all being said, it should be interesting to see which type of user will adopt this model. If nothing else, it certainly sounds like a good entry for the Android lover that had been wanting to move into owning a camera with fancier features and an interchangeable lens setup. Those looking for more should venture down into the Timeline below which includes an earlier hands-on.

It has been quite some time since we’ve seen an Android T-shirt worth mentioning, but today we have one that surely many enthusiasts and Android fans would love to get their hands on. We’ve seen plenty of Android T-Shirts in the past, and this new “Andy Inside” shirt spotted by Droid-Life is a good look inside our favorite little bugdroid.

I still think my favorite one is the King Kong Andy taking on Steve Jobs, but this new one we’re showing you today is pretty good too. Andy Inside gives us a look at all those wires, huge brains because Android is smart, and the heart of Andy all in one.

These shirts have been extremely popular with collectors or enthusiasts, and probably won’t last long. Just like previous releases they come printed on quality American Apparel cotton Ts, and come in multiple different sizes for all Android fans. Google has their own store, but this is a little more unique.

The Android Inside t-shirt will run you about $17 to show your Android spirit, and comes in small all the way to 3XL, so surely they’ll have everyone covered. Even the girls can get one if they’d like. More details and purchase information can be found below.
