CyanogenMod Account feature to land in nightly builds
Sep 10th 2013, 01:03, by Juan Carlos Torres

The CyanogenMod team has just announced that the special CyanogenMod Account provider that they have previously revealed has now passed code review. As such, the new security feature will be included in future nightly builds.

The Account provider was publicized by the makers of the popular custom Android ROM last month and is intended to be a launching pad for CyanogenMod’s planned upcoming features. One such feature is a complete end-to-end encrypted service for locating misplaced devices and even remotely wiping the device in case of theft. This echoes the functionality of the Android Device Manager that Google announced earlier that month.

The difference, according to CyanogenMod, is that the team has no interest in selling users’ data and has no ability to track or wipe users’ devices themselves. Everything is in the hands of the users and managed through a browser. CyanogenMod has not yet included the CyanogenMod Account feature in its nightly builds in order to let the code incubate and get tested by developers first. Now it seems that the feature is finally ready to be tested by a wider audience.

Those who already have access to the nightly build can simply add a CyanogenMod account through the regular Android account manager. They will then be able to make use of the Find and Wipe functionality via CyanogenMod’s website.

HTC One tipped to get Android 4.3, Sense 5, coming to US first
Sep 10th 2013, 00:43, by Juan Carlos Torres

With its relatively low-key presence at the IFA trade show in Berlin last week, HTC seems to be content on focusing its resources on its HTC One smartphone, as this new insider information reveals. According to the source, the company will be rolling out an update that will bring Android 4.3 and the latest Sense 5 UI to its current flagship.

The HTC One is not an old device, having only been announced in February this year and has just recently made its way to US carriers. Running on a quad-core 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 with 2 GB of RAM, a 4.7-inch 1080p display and 32 GB of internal storage, the device definitely doesn’t lag behind the competition. Still, there has been talk of a new HTC One Max in the works that would stand head to head with the latest generation of smartphones.

While HTC’s silence might have disappointed those expecting a grand new smartphone, owners of the company’s current phones would probably gladly welcome this new information. This rumored Android 4.3 update will roll out in two waves, with US handsets receiving the update first before it starts rolling out to international markets.

The source doesn’t give out a clue as to when this update will commence, but it seems that not all recent HTC smartphones will be blessed to receive the updated. While the HTC Butterfly S will be getting update, phones such as the HTC One S and its variants, as well as the HTC EVO LTE will not.
