Panasonic Image App updated, adds support for DMC-GX7 LUMIX camera
Sep 10th 2013, 06:06, by Juan Carlos Torres

Panasonic has just released an update for its Panasonic Image App for Android. The new version doesn’t bring in much new features or makes mention of any bug fixes but does add one new model to its list of supported cameras.

The Panasonic Image App basically turns your Android smartphone into a remote control for a number of WiFi-enabled Panasonic digital cameras. The app allows users to view the camera’s Live View screen right on their smartphone or tablet. They can also browse still photos or play videos recorded from the camera and even directly uploaded them to social networking sites. Cameras and smartphones that support NFC can make use of the technology not only to quickly pair with each other but also to easily transfer photos from camera to smartphone.

In this release, Panasonic is adding the DMC-GX7 LUMIX digital camera, allowing owners to use their smartphones to control the camera or view RAW pictures. Some features of the Panasonic Image App are not present on all supported devices, however. Some, like the DMC-SZ9, cannot be controlled remotely to record videos. Other models can only play back still photos and not videos to the smartphone.

The Panasonic Image App is available for free on Google Play Store and the update should be rolling out to existing users. Owners of the DMC-GX7 are reminded to make sure their Android apps are updated to the latest 1.7 version, otherwise the features will not work with the camera.
