BBM

The BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) for Android app has apparently been leaked – although it's not working at this time – while new reports suggest the application will be finally launched on September 19.

BlackBerry's BBM for Android has been spotted in quite a few reports, and we have already seen quite a few fake BBM apps hit the Google Play Store, but this time around it looks like the real deal has been leaked.

The app can be downloaded and installed on Android devices, although it's not working at this time. Android Community says the app is tested internally, and "will [only] work for premium whitelisted accounts."

As for the actual launch of the app, Samsung Mobile Nigeria has tweeted that BBM for Android will be rolling out to Android device this Friday, and seemed to suggest that the company will have a three-month exclusive access to the app:

YES WE DID!!!! Available frm Friday RT @supersanusi: If Samsung really did get the 3 month exclusive like I heard, that would be something

However, that tweet may have been misinterpreted, as BlackBerry cleared the air in a brief statement to Android Central:

The tweet, though very exciting, is incorrect ... I want to clarify that no one will have an exclusive on offering BBM. We'll be bringing the app to Android and iPhone users across the globe soon.

That said, we'll be able to tell you more details about this highly-anticipated messenger app in the coming days, assuming that September 19 is indeed the official launch date for BBM for Android.
