Today’s handset manufacturers are constantly engaged in a specs race, where they push faster processors, ever-improving displays, more RAM and an increasing number of special software features – all in the hopes of winning the hearts of as many consumers as possible.
For smaller manufacturers and startups, the game is a bit trickier. With less resources and tighter budgets, these smaller players can’t quite compete in the specs war, nor can they rely on expensive marketing campaigns to bring in more consumers. Instead, these little guys have to find ways to shine brightly by thinking differently.
YotaPhone is a prime example of a handset that does things differently from the rest of the pack, thanks to its unique dual-display design. We first heard about the YotaPhone in December of 2012, and it was later demonstrated at MWC earlier this year. Now we are finally learning a bit more about when the phone is coming, and to what markets.
According to a several reports, the YotaPhone will arrive to Russia sometime in November. The handset already has a pre-order page up on their website, though its unclear whether it will be offered directly by any Russian carriers or not.
Will the YotaPhone arrive outside of its home country? While we’ve yet to hear any official plans, Golem.de claims the handset will arrive in November to Germany for around 500 Euros. If true, it is likely the phone will end up arriving in several other European markets as well.

The YotaPhone’s specs aren’t going to set the world on fire, but they aren’t half-bad. The handset has a dual-core Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU, 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. There’s also a 12MP camera, 1800 mAh battery and Android Jelly Bean onboard.
Of course the real magic is the device’s use of two displays. The YotaPhone’s combination of a 4.3-inch 720p LCD display and 640×360 e-ink display could make the handset perfect for those that are looking for a low-power way to view websites, read e-books, check messages and more.
