LG G Pad 8.3 to launch Korea on October 14, global sales to follow soon
Oct 7th 2013, 02:46, by Juan Carlos Torres

LG has just announced the availability of its latest incursion into the realm of Android tablets. The LG G Pad 8.3 will be hitting Korea starting next week, with a number of international markets to follow suit by the end of the year.

Announced at IFA 2013 early last month, the G Pad 8.3 represents company’s most recent attempt at penetrating the tablet market, something it has so far been unsuccessful with. But instead of outing a low-cost, mid-range device, LG is putting the tablet right in it’s “G” premium line. And, indeed, just as with its latest G2 flagship smartphone, the G Pad 8.3 managed to impress us in our initial hands-on with the device, which you can read here.

Aside from the impressive hardware, which includes an 8.3-inch 1920×1200 display and a 1.7 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600, the G Pad 8.3 also showcases some of the software features found on the G2, such as the Knock-on locking/unlocking method and the Q Slide multi-tasking feature. Also making its debut on the G Pad is Q Pair, which not only pairs an Android smartphone with the tablet for network tethering, but also shares notifications between the two devices. You can, in fact, even answer calls or SMS coming from the smartphone on the tablet itself.

The LG G Pad 8.3, which will come only in white and black colors, will be available starting October 14 for 550,000 won, around $510, from LG’s Best Shop, online shopping malls, and department stores in Korea. Unfortunately, it seems that LG is suggesting that buyers also buy an LG smartphone, such as the G2, since only a WiFi model of the LG G Pad 8.3 is available.

HTC One Max spotted brandishing Verizon logo
Oct 7th 2013, 01:34, by Juan Carlos Torres

It’s still not here, but if this pair of leaked photos are the real deal, then the HTC One Max might be coming really soon now. And when it does, it’s sure to at least land on Verizon‘s shelves as these photos are pointing out.

HTC‘s phablet is probably long overdue, but it’s probably better late than never. At least, we’ve got tons of leaked information and photos that reassures us that the device isn’t just a mythical beast. When it does come out, it is expected to at least be competitive with the latest smartphone flagships, sporting a quad-core 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, if not a lower Snapdragon S4 Pro, 2 GB of RAM, a large 5.9-inch 1080p display, an equally large 3300 mAh battery, and, for the audiophiles out there, Beats audio.

Although we’ve already seen what are purported to be real HTC One Max units in the wild, this is the first time we’ve been treated to one that is specifically meant for the US market. Shown in the photos is Verizon’s logo sitting nicely in the middle of the capacitive buttons at the bottom. Whether you agree with the placing or not, there really isn’t any other location Big Red can conspicuously put its brand, given the phone has very thin borders and no physical button.

Of course, all availability and pricing details of the One Max are still up in the air, so we’ll have to wait for HTC to finally reveal the device to the world, all in its own sweet time. Which may not be that long a wait as the phablet is rumored to make its formal appearance next week.

Nexus 5 leaked service manual details specs
Oct 7th 2013, 01:05, by Juan Carlos Torres

As the expected announcement draws ever closer, we are getting more and more information that helps paint a better picture of what may possibly be the Google Nexus 5. Now, courtesy of a leaked internal service manual, we’re getting a peek at the hardware specs of Google‘s next Nexus smartphone that is now believed to be coming from LG.

lg-d821-1

The speculated Nexus 5 that made an appearance in the Android 4.4 KitKat statue unveiling video sported a rather unique back cover design, which made it easy to spot in an FCC filing as the LG D820. Although we’ve already been able to gather quite a number of specs here and there, such as the device’s graphics performance prowess, this service manual is the first semi-official confirmation that we’re getting about the smartphone’s hardware features.

lg-d821-2

It’s already common knowledge that the Nexus 5 will be powered by the latest and greatest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, giving it clock speeds of 2.3GHz, which also gives it access to the powerful Adreno 330 GPU. It’s also known to sport a 5.0″ (or 4.95) inch Full HD 1920×1080 IPS TFT display. The document also confirms the earlier rumor of an 8 megapixel rear camera with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) technology. It will, however, only have a 2300 mAh battery, so we’ll have to see how well it will perform given the hardware. Supported networks include GSM, CDMA, WCDMA, and LTE, though there is no indication yet if there will be separate models for LTE and non-LTE markets.

Being a leaked internal document that is said to still be in a draft state, there are some inconsistencies in the data, such as the screen size, Bluetooth version, and even memory, both RAM and storage, with some parts indicating a 32 GB capacity and others only 16 GB. If the latest rumors of the reveal date are to be believed, we’ll only have to wait for a week or two to find out what’s real and what’s not.
