Just recently, we saw a clear picture of the upcoming Nexus 5 – which will be the first ever Android 4.4 powered smartphone. Nexus 5 should be good enough to compete with the Android flagships in the market, and now it seems Nexus 5 will have what it takes to be the best Nexus yet. Word is on the street that Google is planning to raise the bar by introducing MEMS camera in the Nexus 5. Recently, some log files were leaked which revealed some details about the Nexus 5 as well, thanks to AndroidWorld.it, we came to know about the new camera technology. The files contained information related to the camera, such as f/2.4 aperture with a sensor size of 1/3.2″, also the 8 megapixel sensor is not backside illuminated. The model number of the camera sensor was revealed as well, which is “imx179″.
So after a research, this all indicates towards MEMS (microelectromechanical technology). It is said that it has following features:
- focus operations take place much faster, with some claiming the improvement is as much as 7 times what current cameras are capable of.
- the camera is capable of capturing several images virtually at the same time, allowing for "refocusing" on different areas of the image at a later time, also called the ‘Lytro’ effect.
- less power use will help the camera not consume so much battery life.
- fewer moving parts and lack of contact between the parts should result in longer life.
