Rise of the Phablet - Galaxy Note 3

Strongly thinking about picking up the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 on Verizon's network but not so crazy about the idea of a locked down bootloader? If a new leak is to be believed, the Note 3 is following in the Galaxy S4's footsteps by offering up a "Developer Edition" of the handset through Big Red.

The 'leak' actually comes directly from Samsung's own support site. Typing the beginning parts of the Note's model number into the site's device lookup bar will bring up a list of possible matches – one of which is listed as the "Coming soon! Samsung galaxy Note 3 (Verizon) Developer Edition | SM-N900VMKEVZW".

As it turns out, doing a site search for the Developer Edition's model number actually brings up the device's official page. Unfortunately the page doesn’t give us any release or pricing details, but it does pretty much confirm that the Note 3 Developer Edition is in fact real. We can also take a guess at the price. The full retail cost of the standard Note 3 is $699, so we imagine the pricing here will be similar.

So what will be different with the Note 3 Developer Edition? Not much, other than it will feature an unlocked bootloader that makes it easy to hack, develop and mod to your heart's content. Still, that's more than enough of reason to pick it up for some folks.

Remember that until Verizon and/or Samsung officially confirms the Developer Edition of the Note 3, it's still just a leak – though this one seems pretty much guaranteed. What do you think, anyone out there excited to get their hands on the dev version of the Note 3?
