Galaxy S3 guaranteed to have quad-core Exynos processor, according to “sources”

Posted: 19 Apr 2012 02:35 AM PDT

While some might say the Samsung Galaxy S3 rumor madness might have gotten a bit out of hand lately, it simply doesn't mean we should stop reporting the speculations as we get a hold of them, as we might miss something important and accurate. One thing can be sure – this is the most important device launch in Samsung’s short Android device launch history.

The latest rumor comes as a confirmation of an older rumor, which itself followed upon an even older speculation (are you still following me?) and seems to almost set in stone that the future Samsung flagship's processor. According to some "credible sources" cited by the guys at The Verge, the Galaxy S3 (or whatever they will end up calling it) will be powered by a quad-core Exynos chipset, which should come with "superlative benchmark performance". Whether it is the same quad core 32mm A9 variant found in the soon-to-be-launched-by-June Meizu MX or better remains to be seen.

We first heard something about that way back in November last year (!), with a second report on the same front coming about a month ago. However, this fresh report does mention that the quad-core processor will in fact be featured in the global version of the phone, with specific regional variants being set to come with a different kind of chipset.

As far as the actual model of the quad-core processor set to power the Galaxy S2 successor, The Verge's sources didn't let anything slip, so the most reasonable guess right now is still that 32 nm Cortex-A9 based Exynos we got a glimpse of earlier in 2012, which is the same one in the Meizu MX.

The rumor about the quad-core Exynos chipset powering the S3 is not the only one who popped up on the web in the past 24 hours, with the guys at Phandroid making a very interesting discovery about the possible name of the device as well.

It therefore seems that if you hit http://www.samsung.com/galaxysIII, the URL will be formatted and you will be forwarded to a different address, where you will be greeted with a typical "Page Not Found" error message. The same will happen if, instead of "galaxysIII", you will be hit with the URL "galaxys3" at the end.

While this is nothing out of the ordinary, what's interesting is that if you hit a similar link, with some crazy name after the samsung.com address, like the Galaxy S III HD Plus Ultra, for example, you will be directed to a new page, but this will be very different from the first one. There'll be no formatting, no forwarding, no nothing, which might mean that Samsung is at least thinking of naming its future flagship smartphone the Galaxy S3, which would make sense. Seriously Samsung, none of this Apple “it’s just the iPad” nonsense, ok? You can call it the Samsung Galaxy S3 Universe Ultra HD Pro 9000XT  for all I care.

This is an even wilder guess than the previous one concerning the processor powered by the 4G LTE version of the future Sammy beast, but it might mean something after all and will certainly keep us on our rumor addicted toes for the time being.

We know that you might be a bit tired with all of this endless rumor news and all, but now it is your turn. What, realistically do you think the S3 will be packing? Let us know below!

Samsung and Apple CEO’s to meet and participate in ‘settlement negotiations’

Posted: 19 Apr 2012 02:04 AM PDT

Although I'm sure most of you know this by now, the corporate world is definitely not one bound to the rules of common sense. One of the numerous examples on the topic is ongoing patent dispute between the number one and number two smartphone manufacturers in the world, a litigation that continues despite the fact that Apple is currently one of Samsung's biggest clients. According to recent rumors, the South Korean giant manufactures $8 billion worth of various components that end up inside the iPhone and the iPad, the two best selling (and most profitable overpriced) Apple devices. Meanwhile, Apple and Samsung are involved in extremely costly and resource intensive litigation against each other in no less than nine countries. Cha-ching, old cash register style for both legal teams involved.

In this context, Lucy Koh – the judge presiding over several of the lawsuits between Apple and Samsung in the US – has announced that both companies have responded positively to the Court's invitation to participate at a settlement conference. “The parties have indicated that they are willing to participate in a Magistrate Judge Settlement Conference (‘MJSC'). ECF No. 873. Therefore, the parties are hereby referred to an MJSC with Magistrate Judge Joseph Spero with a 90-day deadline. As the parties have indicated in their joint statement, the chief executive officer and general counsel of Apple and the chief executive officer and general counsel of Samsung shall appear and participate at the MJSC.” said Judge Koh. The armies of suits shall descend.

It should be noted that both companies had little choice but to participate to the court-ordered negotiations. If either CEO would have announced their absence at the negotiations, it would have been received as lack of cooperation by the Judge. And it's more than a safe bet to assume neither CEO would want to displease the Judge. Similar court-ordered negotiations took place in a couple of occasions between two other tech giants recently involved in litigation against each other, but Google and Oracle were unable to find the middle path and are now fighting each other in a trial that began a few days ago, a trial where both CEOs are expected to take the stand as witnesses.

The intellectual property war between the two biggest smartphone producers in the world will most likely continue even after these negotiations, as was the case with the Oracle vs Google dispute. In addition, there's a big chance that the current trials are only a small battle and that the war will span for a number of years in the future. But then again, there is also a small chance that Samsung and Apple will find the way to sort things out.

What do you guys think? Could these negotiations actually lead to a settlement? Or are they just a formal step before armies of lawyers are deployed in court combat? Drop us a line in the comment section below and let us know what you think!

Honestly, do you even care?

Windows Phone Marketing GM quits after 5 months, got “smoked by Windows Phone”

Posted: 19 Apr 2012 01:44 AM PDT

When Gavin Kim joined Microsoft to become the GM of Marketing for Windows Phone, big expectations were set from the get go. Fresh from Kim's successful stint in Samsung, Microsoft had hopes that the former Samsung executive could help bring Windows Phone to the top of mind of customers, so the pressure was on. Fast forward to today, and Kim has decided to call it quits after just five months on the job. Uh oh.

A spokesperson for Microsoft confirmed the news to ZDNet, saying that "Gavin Kim has made a personal decision to leave Microsoft."  The official statement also said that, "We feel very good about the work he has done to set the team." Eugene Ho has been chosen to take the lead from Kim.

What happens in Redmond stays in Redmond, and we can't really tell what made Kim leave the company that is so eager to grow. We have a feeling he will be laying low for a good while as well. It was only last November that the newly appointed marketing head spoke to BGR about how he plans to "create more Windows Phone believers". According to him, Windows Phone already has a good number of supporters that are passionate and vocal, so his job was to reflect that message in the company's products and marketing collaborations with their partners.

“No one comes into the store asking for a Windows Phone”

Five months probably aren't enough time to turn things around for a brand that has been languishing in the bottom of the barrel, with Nielsen not even bother to list Windows Phone market share on its research of smartphone use in the US. Windows Phone's share was lumped with other platforms and it was believed to be below 4%. The research, which was done in February, showed that Android phones were leading with 48%, followed by iPhones with 32%. No surprises there.

Lumia 900

One fair way to judge a person's worth is by looking at the legacy that they leave behind. It seems Kim had somewhat succeeded in making Windows Phone an attractive purchase in customer's eyes – regardless of the low price point of the phone. Reports from various AT&T stores suggest that the Lumia 900 has been selling quite well, with supply of the phone being outstripped by the high demand. This could be telling signs that Microsoft, with Kim's help, has hit the jackpot or simply a case of the stores not stocking enough Lumia 900 in the first place. Or, quite simply the fact that Microsoft is hugely subsidizing the cost of the smartphone for both Nokia and AT&T, to help it achieve the magical $99 price point.

Of course, while you may think it, we don’t want Windows Phone to go anywhere. It represents a viable alternative in the increasingly competitive mobile arena. Without it, there are only two actors, and that doesn’t make for healthy competition. Have you ever had the chance to play with a Windows Phone? What are your perceptions? Let us know – yes you! Who shall reign supreme?

AfterFocus: Turning photos into DSLR-like shots

Posted: 19 Apr 2012 01:00 AM PDT

Technology continuously changes as the days go by, with smartphones becoming literally smarter and packing more powerful specs. With the phones available today, people have started turning away from digital and point-and-shoot cameras and have been making good use of the cameras on their phones.

It’s no wonder why apps like Instagram are so popular. Imagine being able to satisfy your shutterbug urges without having to lug around a heavy camera. But, if you thought that only Instagram was great at capturing life’s precious moments, think again. There's a new photo-editing application in town and it certainly means business.

An application known as AfterFocus is making waves in the Android scene. A once popular app for iOS users, AfterFocus has finally arrived on Android phones, as well.

AfterFocus was developed by MotionOne and this app lets users transform their ordinary smartphone into a DSLR-like camera. This is all thanks to its DSLR-like lens and motion blur effects that help create a user’s snapshot into a professional picture.

First-time users of AutoFocus might find it hard to configure the application as the app has tons of settings to choose from. With a little practice and continuous use, taking pictures will be a walk in the park. Mastering the fine craft of taking shots using AfterFocus may require a few tries, but thanks to a detailed video tutorial, learning can be done in just a matter of minutes.

AutoFocus has three main image focusing modes to choose from. These are Smart Focus, Manual Focus and Double Photo. Choosing the Double Photo mode will automatically adjust the image focus for you. Snap a couple of pictures and Double Photo will allow you to compare the shots.

Smart Focus is the easiest way to take a picture since this mode only requires you to paint roughly around the edges of the object, a portion around the object to set your focus for less intensity and a section in which you want to have a blurred background effect.

Manual Focus, on the other hand, is the trickiest to set up among the three modes. Using this mode requires you to manually paint over the desired image you want to focus on.

If something doesn't go your way, then you can always undo your previous mistake. Tap the eraser tool to manually erase errors in the process. Once you have finished choosing the required selections, all you need to do is tap the arrow found on top of the menu screen and select your preferred style and effects. These include the aperture style, intensity of lens, motion blur effect, toggle fading background, and lastly, applying your desired filter.

AfterFocus is a clever little app that lets you transform your ordinary smartphone into a DSLR camera. Neophyte users who are new to photography may experience some pitfalls along the way, but once you get hold of the controls, you'll be soon be carried away by the app's realistic professional snapshots.

If you’d like to start snapping professional looking photos today, you can download the free version of the AfterFocus app from the Google Play Store. If you feel that the free version doesn't sate your lust for photography then you can upgrade to the pro version within the app itself.

Apex Launcher Pro (Beta) review – leader in home replacement apps [video]

Posted: 19 Apr 2012 12:17 AM PDT

Many of you out there packing the latest and freshest version of Android, version 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, are aware that there are quite a few home launchers available to replace your aging stock launcher. Everything from ported Carrier UI launchers to custom themed versions of the Nova and Apex launchers have made their way onto the home screens of eager Android enthusiasts. It is often difficult sorting through all the options. With so many different features belonging to every launcher, it can take an eternity to finally decide upon a good home replacement launcher.

So, which one is the best?

For those of you who don't wish to dabble into the world of custom theming, but are looking to breathe new life into your home screen, I present to you Apex Launcher Pro Beta. You will need to follow the few easy steps in the embedded video to acquire an evaluation license for the Pro Beta version. Also, keep in mind, the Beta license will expire on April 24, 2012, so this is more of a short preview of what to expect out of a stable pro version. For those who wish to install the most recent stable version of Apex Launcher just follow the link in the bottom of this article.

Apex Features

Aside from previously existing features, Apex has packed their Pro version with the first dock-able widgets for Ice Cream Sandwich. With Apex's resizable widget functionality, you can scale any widget down in order to fit it into the dock bar. The dock bar facilitates only 1×1 widgets for now, but they manage to get the point across.

Among other features included with the Pro Beta version are improved gesture support,  Phone, Gmail, and SMS, missed/unread count, and new screen transitions. These, on top of the insane amount of features already present, help to launch (no pun intended) Apex's home replacement app to the forefront of all ICS launchers available today!

Video

And so there you have it! Apex Launcher Pro is a huge step forward, don’t you agree? Check it out below, and let us know your thoughts! Any thoughts?

The best ROM’s for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 [Video]

Posted: 19 Apr 2012 12:01 AM PDT

We all know that what sets the Android OS apart from its competition is its open-source nature which gives us the ability to customize and tweak the interface to suit our own needs. Of course, the ability to create such “custom ROMs” requires a certain level of technical expertise which a lot of everyday users don’t have. Specialized teams of developers have been working hard to build such ROMs, that not only replace the existing interface your device features, but in most cases also enhance the overall performance of the device.

One of our very own here at Android Authority, Sam Cater, wrote a wonderful article explaining what exactly a custom ROM entails, so I won’t be getting into that here. What I am hoping to do today is provide a list of, what we think, are some of the better custom ROMs for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.

The selection of the Top 6 ROMs that we have chosen are based on set criteria that I believe are everyone’s requirements when looking for a custom ROM, including:

  • Speed
  • Functionality
  • User Interface
  • Ease of Installation
  • Bug/glitch free
So without further ado, we present to you the best custom ROM’s for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1!

Overcome ROM V2.3

If you are one of those users that crave a stock Android experience, this is the ROM for you. The features of the Overcome ROM include

  • A complete stock Android experience with the fonts, soft-keys, and icons of the original Honeycomb OS Android Open-Source Project(AOSP)
  • Glass tile transitions
  • Settings still have a TouchWiz theme, but is the only place that you will find TouchWiz on this ROM.
  • Apps include My Files, Google Play Store, Play Music, SwitchMe profile manager, and other apps found on a stock tablet.
  • Upgraded launcher
  • BusyBox installed for all your rooted apps
  • Running Honeycomb 3.2
  • Upgraded power menu options add Reboot, Recovery, and Download to the standard Silent Mode, Flight Mode, and Power Off.
  • Clean UI with no lag, bugs, or glitches

If this is the ROM you are looking for, you can find download and installation instructions here.

Clean ROM v1.3

As the name suggests, this is a “Clean” version of the TouchWiz UI, removing all Samsung bloatware. The features of this ROM include:

  • TouchWiz overlay – Includes Task Manager, Calendar, World Clock, and Calculator in the dock bar. TouchWiz icons and settings menu toggles.
  • Android 3.2 Honeycomb
  • Pershoot’s kernel allows you to overclock your device to up to 1.4 Ghz. Antutu CPU Master included. Unfortunately, we have been unable to run this app as it continuously force-closes, hence we use SetCPU.
  • Apps include all the Google Play apps, QuickOffice HD, File Manager HD, and SuperUser.
  • Fast reboot capability
  • No lag, fast transitions, and bug-free

If you prefer TouchWiz UI without all those Samsung bloatware apps, this really fast ROM is the choice for you. You can find download and installation instructions here.

Bindroid v3.4

With XDA members as the lead developers of this ROM, the expectations from the ROM are quite high. And it does not disappoint. Features of this ROM include:

  • Impressive lockscreen
  • May seem bloated, with the home-screens loaded with stock Galaxy Tab widgets right from setup
  • All the icons, toggles, notifications, softkeys, TouchWiz launcher, and Settings menu are themed.
  • Android Honeycomb 3.2 with a native Bindroid kernel
  • Native kernel allows you to overclock the device up to 1.4 Ghz. (using SetCPU)
  • Apps list features “Ad-free”, which removes all possible ads from the Android system. Other apps include ES File Explorer, Samsung Music Hub, and Polaris Office.
  • Even with all the widgets on screen, there is no lag, and very speedy transitions.
  • Customized power menu with Reboot, Recovery mode, and Download mode

This might be too gaudy for some, but if you are looking for a completely customized UI with easy access to apps and widgets, this is the ROM for you. You can find download and installation instructions here.

GalaxyTask ROM v14

This is another custom ROM that, with the exception of a few tweaks, is TouchWiz reminiscent. Important point to note with this ROM include:

  • TouchWiz overlay with a standard status bar and notifications and toggle menu.
  • There a few bugs and glitches which you need to watch out for.
  • Host of apps pre-installed including Photobrowser, Photo Editor, and HideBar(which hides the status bar). There are some issues with the functionality of the HideBar app though, as seen in the video below.
  • It can be overclocked using the Pershoot’s kernel, but does not come with it, so you are stuck at the 1Ghz level.
  • Android Honeycomb 3.2
  • No Samsung bloatware
  • No lag and speedy transitions

This ROM does have a few kinks that need to be worked out, but with more updates, it should be a viable alternative to the above two choices. You can find download and installation instructions here.

Blazar ROM

This ROM is for users looking to move back to Android Honeycomb 3.1 experience. Features of this ROM include:

  • This ROM is strictly AOSP with no custom themes, and is a return to the “classic” Android 3.1 experience
  • Classic menus
  • Increased brightness
  • Not TouchWiz inspired
  • Android Honeycomb 3.1
  • Allows you to overclock stably up to a whopping 1.6 Ghz (done using SetCPU) with no over-heating.
  • No lags, very speedy and smooth transitions
  • No bloatware
  • Apps include QuickOffice HD and Samsung Music Hub. Android Market is yet to be upgraded to the Google Play Store.

This ROM is for all the speed demons out there, along with those who love the look of Honeycomb 3.1. You can find download and installation instructions here.

Android Open Kang Project (AOKP)

team kang

The AOKP ROM is for all those users (I’m assuming everyone) who are looking forward to an Android 4.0 experience on their Galaxy Tabs. Features of this ROM include:

  • Android 4.0 lockscreen
  • Soft-keys changed to the Ice Cream Sandwich recommended three button setup.
  • Requires the installation of the Google Apps package after flashing this ROM
  • “Buttery-smooth” performance
  • Android 4.0 native settings
  • Complete navigation bar customization including the ability to add apps to the nav-bar.
  •  Add or remove toggles from the status bar
  • Set performance from the Settings menu. Can be overclocked up to 1.4 Ghz.
  • Other standard Android 4.0 features

This ROM provides a very smooth performance, but the only issue is that the camera does not work yet. This is the latest version of the ROM and there is no of when the developers might fix this, but will likely be soon. If you can survive without a camera altogether, this is the best ROM for you. You can find download and installation instructions here.

Video

You can watch a video review of the ROMs here. If you are looking for a specific ROM, here are the time-stamps  -

  • Overcome ROM – 00:39
  • Clean ROM – 02:57
  • Bindroid ROM – 04:37
  • GalaxyTask ROM – 07:43
  • Blazar ROM – 10:49
  • AOKP ICS ROM – 13:47

Also, if you’re interested, we’ve created a few different guides on how to get the most out of your Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1!

Conclusion

All of the ROMs are some of the best we’ve seen for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, each with its own unique features to suit the different requirements of every user.

It is important to remember that flashing your device with a custom ROM comes a certain amount of risk. Familiarity with the process is recommended and some ROMs are easier to install than others. Follow the instructions thoroughly as there is always a small chance of something going wrong, leaving you with a very expensive plate.

If you have used any of the above ROMs, let us know your experience. Also, if there are any other custom ROMs you think deserve to be in this list, let us know in the comments section below.

Best Android apps for cooks and kitchen use

Posted: 18 Apr 2012 10:18 PM PDT

Have you ever turned on the television and wished that you could be like Gordon Ramsey or Nigella Lawson and whip up a special meal for your loved ones? Have you ever turned the pages of a cookbook and sighed in longing, wondering when you are ever going to be able to make something as delicious and that looks as good? Worry no more. With these Android apps on your Android device, you will be able to find your way around the kitchen even if you are not blessed by the cooking fairy, and (hopefully) make a meal that will have your friends and loved ones begging for more.

You can search the drinks list according to name, recipe, and popularity. Bartender will help you make sure that there won’t be a dry glass in the house.

Jump Desktop app for controlling computers remotely via RDP or VNC

Posted: 18 Apr 2012 07:00 PM PDT

Have you heard of an app that lets you control your computer remotely? If you have not encountered such an app yet, it’s time that you know about it. There are already a lot of applications that let you perform the aforementioned function and there is one that is worth knowing. It’s called the Jump Desktop app. This app takes the experience to another level because it lets you control not only one computer but several computers from your mobile device.

About the App

Jump Desktop is developed by Phase Five Systems and it’s one of the most reliable application if you talk about controlling your computer remotely through the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) or Virtual Network Computing (VNC).  Jump Desktop is a cross-platform app available for iOS and Android users and its remote connection function supports Mac- and Windows-based computers.

Although it is considered to be one of the most reliable apps available, the performance (which is the speed of connection) of this app is highly dependent on the quality of the Internet connection in your location, as well as the location of the computer that you want to control.

You often do a lot of things when you are using your mobile device such as text messaging, calling  or opening another application. What’s great about this app is that it is efficient in multitasking allowing uninterrupted connection to your computer even if you minimize or leave the screen of the app.

If you have several devices, you also don’t have to go through the configuration process each time just to set it up on each of your devices because it has an option to back up and restore all your personal preferences and settings for the app.

Using Jump Desktop

When you use this app there are a few things that you need to configure before you can start using it. You need to set up the desktop client for your computer, specify whether you want automatic or manual settings, choose between RDP or VNC protocol and then  register an account using your email address that you will use to log in on the official Jump Desktop website to remotely control your computer.

Once you have taken care of those things, all you need is a reliable Wi-Fi connection to establish a connection to your computer.

Once you are already connected to your computer, you will see your computer’s screen displayed on your mobile device’s screen. You need to tap the screen of your device to see the on-screen controls which you will use to navigate and control your computer. You will also find a circle on the screen that is dedicated to help you control the mouse pointer on your PC. It’s hard at first and you might need some time to get the hang of it.

Basing on the reviews of the users who have tried the app, most of them liked it because the connection between the device and computer is great even on slow connections.

Try Jump Desktop now and control your computer remotely with ease. Download Jump Desktop free from the Google Play Store.

Lava’s Xolo X900 is the first Intel Medfield phone, coming soon in India

Posted: 18 Apr 2012 01:41 PM PDT

The Verge

It must've been hard for Intel to watch Qualcomm, Nvidia, and, to a lesser extent, Texas Instrument gaining such a strong foothold in the mobile CPU industry over the last couple of years.  But while the Santa Clara based company has been quite late to the party, we sort of expected to see Intel making a grand entrance. Nevertheless, the first Medfield smartphone will come from one relatively unknown Lava company in India.

Dubbed Xolo X900, the first to market Intel-inside Android phone is powered by a 1.6GHz Medfield processor. Beyond the processor that it is shipping with and the expected Android 2.3.7 Gingerbread flavor, other details are still unknown. It's been rumored that the phone would have an 8MP rear shooter.

From the pictures that folks at The Verge have taken, the Xolo X900 is thought to have a 3.5- or 3.7-inch display with 1024 x 768 resolution. According to the same report, the phone is relatively light and the screen didn't disappoint. They did find the hardware buttons on the phone to be on the clunky side, while the placement of the capacitive buttons may not be too comfortable to use.

Lava's Xolo X900 will only be released in India and there's still no price and release date information. Time will tell if the phone will be a hot item or be obliterated by the heat.

Back in February, Intel CEO Paul Otellini said that the company has ambitions to become the major player in the mobile market. Although Lava is the first to ship a Medfield phone, Intel has also struck deals with the likes of Motorola, Lenovo, and France Telecom's Orange.  It's unclear yet when Motorola will release its first Medfield phone, but Lenovo is planning to release its Intel device in May, to be followed by Orange in June.

Earlier reports suggest that the Intel Medfield chip would be reserved for entry level smartphones, which should explain why Lava was approached in the first place. It's interesting to see what Motorola would come up with, being one of the bigger companies on Intel’s to-do list.

Asus Transformer Pad 300 up for pre-order on Amazon, shipping on April 22

After being spotted at a French retailer, as well as at J&R last week, in what looked like some fishy early listings designed to mess with our heads, the Asus Transformer Pad 300 has today gone up for pre-order on Amazon, with a release date set for April 22.

Unfortunately, we are still unsure of the gadget's price tag, which could be anywhere from $399.99 to $489.99 (for the 32 GB model). What makes us say that? Well, the tablet initially popped up with a $399.99 tag next to its name on Amazon, but that was quickly changed to a $489.99, which seems to stick for now.

The price change could mean one of two things, if you ask me. Either the initial listing was a mistake and that $399.99 price will remain a sweet dream for all us technology geeks, which is the worst case scenario, or the 10-incher will end up selling for 400 bucks directly from Amazon and the current $489.99 will only be charged by some third party sellers, namely Spicy Bomb and uShopMall.

There's no way to know for sure which one of these two price tags will become reality, so, for the time being I wouldn't recommend pre-ordering the device, even though it might sell like hotcakes and the stock could be exhausted soon enough.

On the other hand, there's currently another typo live on Amazon, with the gadget said to feature 2 GB of RAM (it will definitely come with only 1 GB), so sadly I think that the most logical explanation for the "fluctuation" in the device's price is that of an initial typing error.

The Asus Transformer Pad 300 will pretty much come with all the great things we loved about the Transformer Prime, except for the aluminum body, which has been replaced with a plastic exterior. Other than that, this 10-incher will feature, like its older brother, a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, an IPS display with 1280 x 800 pixels resolution, an 8-megapixel rear-facing shooter, and the running of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box.

There will also be an optional keyboard dock made available for the Transformer Pad 300 sometime after the tablet's official release, so you will be able to turn this bad boy into a mini-laptop for a not very high price.

Stay tuned on our website in the following days to find out if the Transformer Pad 300 will actually sell for 400 or 490 bucks after all! In the meantime, don't forget to hit us with a comment below and let us know what you think of the gadget and which one of these two price tags (if any) would make you interested in purchasing it.
