Acer Liquid S1 5.7-inch smartphone available now in Taiwan
Aug 5th 2013, 20:24, by Cory Gunther

Back in June the popular laptop manufacturer Acer announced their new 5.7-inch Android phablet, the Acer Liquid S1 smartphone. Coming in with a massive 5.7-inch Note style display with a 720p resolution and Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and now this week it’s officially available in Taiwan for just $430.

With a pretty well rounded device all coming in at a fair price the Acer S1 is a smartphone worth looking at. Offering a MediaTek MT6589T 1.5GHz quad-core processor accompanied by 1GB of RAM, with an 8 megapixel camera on the rear and 2 up front. Then we can’t forget Android 4.2 Jelly Bean on board, with some UI tweaks of course.

The Liquid S1 features stereo DTS surround sound speakers, and a decently sized 2,400 mAh battery is under the hood. Hopefully that will be enough to keep that 1280 x 720p HD display coming in at 5.7-inches juiced up all day. To round it out we have dual-SIM slots and even micro-SD for expanding that internal storage.

With Android 4.2 Jelly Bean the S1 offers some floating UI elements for true multi-tasking, and even voice unlock features as a few things to differentiate them from the competition. It’s currently up for sale starting this week in Taiwan for 12,900 TWD, roughly $430 USD, and will likely stay on that side of the pond.

The Acer Liquid S1 offers some interesting new things, and hopefully we’ll be able to give it a look soon. Who’s interested in this Galaxy Note-like device?

NFL Mobile redesigned for 2013, blocks root users
Aug 5th 2013, 19:35, by Cory Gunther

The official NFL app for Android has been updated this afternoon with tons of changes. Now that football is here (finally!) we all need an app to stay up to date with the latest news, scores, and highlights. It appears to be replacing the Verizon NFL Mobile app, and the official NFL (2011, 12, 13) one has simply been renamed NFL Mobile, and aside from a nice redesign it’s all bad news.

The developers of the app decided to drop the yearly re-name system where they titled the app after each year for that season, and instead will simply call this NFL Mobile. That’s presumably why Verizon’s NFL Mobile app, that’s been around for years, was renamed to NFL Mobile 1.0. So yes, this just got even more confusing. This latest app will tell you to uninstall the old version, which is still on the Play Store oddly.

Even more confusing is how the NFL’s app went from version 3.7 to 8.0 with this mornings update. Seems they’ve been doing some testing, and decided to jump right to version 8 for this season. That aside, the new app actually looks extremely awesome. There’s tons of content from NFL Network, which is nice but a subscriber like me still needs to pay Verizon $5.99 a month too. So I won’t get to reap the benefits of this new app. Taking cues from Verizon’s version, this app will do it all. News, alerts, scores, updates, highlights, and even let you manage your NFL.com Fantasy Football Team. They blend both apps into one.

Well, you might be able to do all of that with the app. So long as you’re using a stock device. They’ve blocked every root user from using the app. Not just streaming parts either for piracy reasons. If you’re rooted this app simply won’t work at all. I guess you’ll need to use Yahoo or ESPN for Fantasy Football this year.

So for the millions or regular NFL app users, and all those Verizon NFL Mobile users. We now have one app, it does it all, but blocks rooted users outright. I guess I’ll have to use this app with my tablet only, since all my phones are rooted. It’s a pretty good update otherwise, so check it out below. Go Packers!

HTC teases change in latest viral video attempt
Aug 5th 2013, 19:06, by Robert Nelson

Recent HTC related chatter has been on the One Max, which recently surfaced in some leaked photos. We are also waiting on an official announcement for an AT&T branded HTC One mini. That handset had recently been spotted with the FCC. But putting those two bits to the side and it looks like HTC has begun teasing something else.

Or well, judging from how this is your typical teaser campaign, maybe they are teasing both of those. We are fairly sure that isn’t the case, however HTC has recently taken to the social sites in an effort to promote something called #HTChange. In fact, the company is using at least four social networks at the moment. They took to Twitter with a Vine video and to Facebook with an Instagram video.

On a somewhat geeky note, it is refreshing to see they lined up those social sites as they did. But more important here is what they could be setting up. The video doesn’t mention anything specific but does begin with a helicopter flying in. Once landed a gentleman jumps off with a brief case and greets someone else. From here you see HTC transform into “Here’s To Change” and “Happy Telephone Company.”

We aren’t quite sure of what to make with the Happy Telephone Company portion at the very end, however it does seem like more than a few people are hoping to see the HTC One Max tucked away in that briefcase. Before we touch on the still rumored details of the One Max, how about we present another option. There was some talk in the recent past about Robert Downey Jr. coming on for a new marketing campaign and maybe this is the beginning of that series.

That said, at present we are expecting HTC to announce the One Max during IFA, which takes place in the early part of September. The handset has been rumored to feature a 5.9-inch display along with a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, 3300 mAh battery, 2.1 megapixel front-facing camera and UltraPixel rear-facing camera. IFA is also where Samsung is expected to debut the Galaxy Note III.
