Hello again and welcome back to this week’s episode of Android Authority Q&A. We had a lot of great questions this week asking about the Android 4.3 update to the Galaxy S4 and the best tablet for college students. Question 1
When will Android 4.3 come out for the Samsung Galaxy S4? – Ritvik
Answer
The official word out of Samsung is that the Android 4.3 update will be coming to both the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy S4 sometime in October 2013. We imagine it's because they don't want to take attention away from their Galaxy Note 3 launch, which is happening over the next 2 weeks, so they'll probably begin rolling out the update after the Note 3 craze settles down. Of course, we can't guarantee that this will happen and updates have been known to be delayed, so don't take our word as gospel.
Question 2
What would you recommend as the best tablet for a college student? There are many different lists of the top tablets. However, I am looking for one tablet that is the best for a college student. – Heather
Answer
As a current college student, I can understand the frustration. If you're anything like me, you want something with excellent performance that's also very cheap because we college students are generally broke. In the Venn Diagram of cheapest to best performance, there is only one right answer and it's the Nexus 7. It's under $300 and it has top of the line specs. You can probably even pick up last year's Nexus 7 for cheaper than $200 on sites like eBay and it still performs well enough for what you would need it for.
Question 3
Hey guys, I want to get the Oppo Find 5. Can you tell me which carriers it will be able to run on? – Derek
Answer
According to the specs, it can supports up to HSPA+ 42 on the 850, 900, 1700, 1800, 1900, and 2100MHz bands. This means you can get HSPA+ on both T-Mobile and AT&T along with 3G. Unfortunately, it's not LTE enabled so if you were looking for that you may be disappointed. Also, the Oppo N1 was recently announced and it is a huge upgrade from the Oppo Find 5. So you may want to check that out before going all in on the Find 5.
Question 4
Will my EVO LTE see the light of day? In this situation, day is another update, perhaps to sense 5 and Android 4.2.2 or 4.3? – Adam G.
Answer
I wish I could say I had some good news for you, but as of right now there are literally no rumblings about the HTC EVO 4G LTE getting an update any time soon. The good news is that there are rumblings of the One X getting such an update sometime in the unspecified future, which means the EVO LTE might as well. Of course, you need to look no further than an HTC One S owner to know how those rumors can turn out sometimes.
Question 5
Is there a way to have my HTC One X, or any Android device, use atomic time from a specified website like time.gov like a computer? – John
Answer
The answer is sort of. There are a number of Android apps which will sync the time on your device to the atomic time. Without root, it's accurate to a few seconds but with root it is pretty much spot on. You'll have to search through the available apps in the Play Store by searching for "atomic time" to see which ones sync with which clocks.
