Gameloft's Total Conquest brings epic battles to the Play Store
Sep 19th 2013, 20:40, by Cory Gunther

Just a few days ago Gameloft announced that their new game Total Conquest was coming to Android and iOS later this month. Today though it appears that the day is now, because it’s available as we speak on the Google Play Store. Check out their launch video with more details below.

Total Conquest is an exciting and action-packed strategy game set during the time of the Roman Empire. Not only is it from that time, but you’ll be able to train and control an entire Roman Empire army. How cool is that? We first got a look at the game at E3, but today it’s available for everyone on both Android and iOS.

Don’t call it a Clash of the Clans knockoff either. Total Conquest has tons of options and upgrades. Users will be able to Hire, train and upgrade 10 different unit types, each with a specific role. You can battle players around the world, or enjoy the solo campaign mode like most games. Without saying more, take a peek at their launch video.

Build up that army and fight off the rebels in this action-packed game. Sadly they don’t use Google Games, but you can invite friends with Facebook. iOS users can use the Game Center though. We’re not sure why they didn’t use Google Games to help out.

As expected this is another freemium title from Gameloft, but for those interested you can enjoy it right now from the link below.

Kamcord reveals in-game recording for Android
Sep 19th 2013, 20:26, by Robert Nelson

Kamcord has had in-game recording tools available for iOS developers, and while they have been working towards and Android release, it wasn’t until today that the good news arrived. Simply put, Kamcord has announced a new Android SDK that will allow Android developers to add similar options in their games. This apparently, has been a work in progress with some of the effort going into making sure they were able to allow for recording without any performance hits.

Time to get to this point aside, what this means now is an available SDK for Android developers. This is still being touted as a beta offering. Kamcord founder Aditya Rathnam did suggest there was plenty of interest from Android developers and has said they expect the first round of games to arrive “in a couple of weeks.” While this SDK will allow developers to set up in-game recording (an additional feature) — there is another potential perk for them.

That perk comes in the form of additional chatter about the game within the social community. You see, aside from recording the gameplay, users playing Kamcord-equipped games are also able to share those videos out on social sites. We suspect the potential will vary from game to game, however this could build up a whole other community for some games.

Anyway, while Android users are waiting for this type of in-game recording to arrive, the folks at Kamcord are touting 1 billion recordings with 1 million of those having been shared out. Otherwise, those developing for Android can sign up to be a part of the release and Kamcord has said this can be integrated in 30 minutes or less. And perhaps more important is that it can be integrated without any performance loss.

Android 5.0 concept video has us dreaming beyond KitKat
Sep 19th 2013, 19:32, by Cory Gunther

Earlier this year we showed you guys some neat Android 5.0 concept images by some creative Android lovers before 4.4 KitKat was official, but today we have something even better. A stunning and impressive video has just appeared with a better sense of design and direction in line with Google, and Google Now, and it has us pretty excited. Even if it’s only a fake fan-made concept video.

A guy named Craig Tuttle has released a quick and rather exciting video on YouTube showing his thoughts and vision for Android 5.0 Lollipop, or whatever Google might call it. He plays off the KitKat, Key Lime Pie and Android 5.0 thing at the end, but we’re more interested in what he’s come up with. It’s so impressive we’d love to see it in Android.

With the updates to Google Maps, Google Keep, YouTube and more we know Google is headed in this Now “cards” direction, and Craig shows us what a deeply integrated Google Now cards system could look like. His Google Now unified notification pull-down bar is excellent, and so is the new white font. Well, we like everything we’re seeing, so take a peek below.

You’ll quickly notice the Holo-blue colors have been replaced with white, and the entire UI has a white-out or opaque white design. We’ve actually heard this in a rumor or two, but will have to wait and see what Google actually does with Android 4.4 and 5.0 when that time comes.

We aren’t expecting too many major changes with the minor update to Android 4.4 KitKat, but surely 5.0 will bring drastic changes to the look and feel. The Google Now additions seem somewhat realistic, and we thought this was certainly worth sharing with you all. Thoughts?

Quickoffice relaunched by Google, price drops and includes 10GB Drive perk
Sep 19th 2013, 19:13, by Robert Nelson

Back in April Google released the Google Apps edition of Quickoffice in the Play Store. This app was released for free, but the use was limited to those who were paying Google Apps for Business subscribers. At the time Quickoffice remained priced at $14.99 and $19.99 for the Pro and Pro HD versions. Well, flash forward till the present day and Quickoffice has been relaunched and is now available for free — for everyone.

The newly launched Quickoffice can be found in the Play Store where it sits with support for tablets and smartphones. Well, provided they are running Android 2.2. or later. In addition to Google dropping the price, they also rolled the app out with a new icon, which bears resemblance to the Google Drive icon. And perhaps a bit nicer, the app also has some new features.

Google noted how the new Quickoffice allows the user to create .ZIP folders and also view charts in Excel and PowerPoint files. Of course, the existing features remain which mean you will be able to attach files to emails, open and view PDF files and create/edit Word, Excel and PowerPoint files. Quickoffice users can also access files from their device and from Google Drive.

Sticking with the connection to Drive, Google has a bonus for those who install the app and sign-in using their Google account credentials before September 26th — free storage. Those who follow up with this will get an extra 10GB of Google Drive storage. This extra free storage will come in addition to the currently available 15GB and Google has said it will be added sometime in the “next few weeks.”
