Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SIM card restrictions surface
Sep 25th 2013, 16:14, by Robert Nelson

The folks at Clove have recently announced they have received their initial inventory for the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. And while the announcement could have been left at just that, it appears as if there are some points that potential buyers may want to know upfront. This is in regards to the model number SM-N9005 which ships with a European SIM card. Basically, this model is not going to be good for those who travel the world.

Device limitations while traveling are not entirely new, however this particular model does have a special sticker on the box with a warning. An image of the sticker can be seen below, but in short, what this means is that you will not be able to use this model Galaxy Note 3 outside of Europe. Or in other words, you will not be able to travel to the US and use a local GSM SIM card for voice and data.

In this case, the handset (even with an active SIM) will not work with voice or data. The user would be limited to WiFi only in terms of connectivity and the only exception would be for an emergency call. Anyway, as such, Clove has also said they will not be accepting any orders for this particular model from anyone outside of Europe.

Otherwise, looking away from Clove and outside of Europe and we are expecting the Galaxy Note 3 availability to begin in the US shortly. The release dates vary from carrier to carrier, however the handset will be arriving with specs to include a 5.7-inch Full HD display, quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 3200 mAh battery and 13 megapixel rear-facing camera with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Pebble smartwatch arriving with AT&T this weekend
Sep 25th 2013, 16:03, by Robert Nelson

The Pebble smartwatch had a rather successful run on Kickstarter. Those watches then arrived for direct sales from Pebble and with big box retailer Best Buy. And moving forward, it looks like the Pebble will soon be available with AT&T. In fact, AT&T has announced they will be the “exclusive carrier” for the Pebble. The watch will be available beginning this weekend.

According to details coming from AT&T, the Pebble will be available online and with roughly 500 retail locations on September 27th. After this initial launch, “broader” in-store availability was promised for October. A specific date has yet to be announced for October, however the price should be familiar for those who had already been considering a purchase.

AT&T will have the Pebble available for $150 and they are touting it as a device that can extend the control of your smartphone and for the active lifestyle. There hasn’t been any word of colors, however regardless of the color — the watch will bring the same in terms of features.

The Pebble has a rechargeable battery that is said to be able to last up to 5-7 days and is water-resistant. In a simple form, the Pebble can run custom watchfaces and it receives alerts for new messages, voice calls and more from your smartphone. Of course, there are additional features and apps that extend the support to offer music playback controls and even to display your current progress on runs.

We have had a Pebble here at Android Community for some time now and it has remained in use. Those looking for some additional Pebble coverage should check the Pebble and/or smartwatch hubs on the site. Plus, we have also had a review and some details on the RunKeeper integration.

Samsung Galaxy F-series smartphones rumored
Sep 25th 2013, 15:13, by Robert Nelson

Earlier today we saw details from Samsung about how they are planning to release a smartphone with a curved display. Those details came from Samsung, however according to some reports coming out of Korea, it looks like that is not the only item the company is currently working on. In fact, those reports are pointing towards a new series coming next year.

It was said that Samsung is working on the Galaxy F series of devices, which would be higher-end as compared to the current Galaxy S series. What we are seeing comes by way of ETNews who are reporting that Samsung is working on the Galaxy F series and they are expected to arrive early next year and with a full metal body.

Considering we have seen plenty of rumors suggesting Samsung was working on handsets with less plastic we remain a bit skeptical. But with that in mind, a new series (in this case, the Galaxy F) could be a good way for Samsung to make the transition from plastic to metal. Of course, just because the Galaxy F series is said to be coming — we aren’t expecting the Galaxy S series to go away.

Aside from the full metal body, the Galaxy F series is expected to bring some other higher-end specs. A few points mentioned in the report include an Octa-core Exynos processor and 16 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization (OIS). Otherwise, no word in terms of display size, or sizes just yet. There was also mention of the handset dropping with Android 4.2, though given a release coming in early 2014 — we would hope to see Android 4.3 or even 4.4 Kit Kat.

While we wait for additional details and hopefully something direct from Samsung confirming the F series, we cannot help but wonder about price. After all, with newer devices landing at around $200 on contract and even more for the Galaxy Note 3, we wonder how much higher Samsung is going to be willing to go.
