What is Amazon's 'Mojito' Fire OS 3.0?
Sep 25th 2013, 14:50, by Scott Webster

One of the key features in Amazon’s new 2013 Kindle Fire tablets is its “Mojito” Fire 3.0 OS. What are the details and what does this mean to the end user?

Amazon has put together a lengthy list of features, enhancements, and updates and we certainly recommend checking it out if only to give yourself something to read while you wait for your new tablet to arrive.

Suffice it to say, Amazon has taken their custom apps and services and ratcheted them up a notch. Look for more robust offerings in the way of WhisperSync, Download Manager, X-Ray for Movies and TV, and more.

Of all of the new and improved stuff, it’s Mayday that most grabs our attention.

The Mayday Button delivers revolutionary on-device tech support and is available 24×7, 365 days a year, for free. 15 seconds or less is the Mayday response time goal. The Mayday button is built into Quick Settings and an Amazon expert will appear on the Fire HDX and can co-pilot a customer through any feature by drawing on the screen, walking them through how to do something themselves or doing it for them.

It’s worth noting that the Fire OS 3.0 will only be made available to the new 2013 models – the new Kindle Fire HD and Kindle Fire HDX. Indeed, it comes pre-loaded on these devices and should feel familiar to those of you with previous Kindle Fire experience.

Looking ahead, Amazon already has a 3.1 update slated for later this year (mid-November) which will add in extended printing support, complete enterprise solutions, cloud-based organization, Goodreads integration, and the ability to fling TV shows and movies from the tablet to the TV.
