Boost Mobile Warp 4G smartphone arrives for purchase
Sep 26th 2013, 15:00, by Robert Nelson

Boost Mobile has launched their latest smartphone. The handset is the Warp 4G and as the name would imply, it brings 4G LTE connectivity. Boost has the handset selling for $199.99 and with specs to include a 4.5-inch display, dual-core 1.2GHz processor and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Other goodies for the Warp 4G include an 8 megapixel rear-facing camera and 1 megapixel front-facing camera along with 1GB of RAM, 8GB of internal storage, a 2070 mAh battery, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. The handset weighs in at 4.76 ounces and has measurements of 5.24 x 2.6 x 0.4 inches.

Specs aside, that $199.99 purchase price is contract free and Boost Mobile will have the Warp 4G available for use with the Android Monthly Unlimited or Android Daily Unlimited plans. The former is priced at $55 per month and the latter is priced at $3 per day. Both plans include the basics such as unlimited nationwide talk, text and data.

Those choosing the monthly option will also be eligible for shrinking payments. This means your monthly rate will begin at $55 per month and eventually drop to as low as $40 per month by making on-time payments. Specifically, users will see their monthly bill decrease by $5 for every 6 on-time payments.

Touching back on the unlimited data portion of those plans, users may want to know how the fine print reads. These include 2.5GB of high-speed data. Those going over that amount will see their speeds decrease to 3G (at 256Kbps or below) for the remainder of that particular billing cycle. Otherwise, looking back and we saw Boost Mobile announce and release a few handsets (including the LG Optimus F7 and Kyocera Hydro Edge) over the summer months.

ZeptoLab teases Cut The Rope 2 ahead of winter arrival
Sep 26th 2013, 14:33, by Robert Nelson

ZeptoLab, the developers behind the Cut The Rope games as well as Pudding Monsters has announce a new game. This latest will be Cut The Rope 2 and it looks like it will be arriving later in the year. The folks at ZeptoLab have yet to offer much in the way of specifics and have instead said the game was going to launch “worldwide this winter.” In the meantime, they did offer some game related teasers though.

This one is being teased as a game that will “re-imagine the universe of Om Nom, the iconic star of Cut the Rope, with new twists on classic gameplay, never-before-seen characters, interactive environments and a captivating story that will appeal to new players and existing fans alike.” Basically, this release is expected to bring new adventures, new characters and more and will continue with the mission about how ZeptoLab likes to examine the science of fun.

Aside from a bit of teasing for this new release, ZeptoLab also took some time to share numbers for the other games. In this case, it was said their games have now topped the 400 million download mark. This is a global number and there was also talk about how they have reached 60 million active monthly users.

Those downloads come from Cut The Rope (the original from 2010), Cut The Rope: Experiments, Cut The Rope: Time Travel and Pudding Monsters. And interestingly enough, ZeptoLab has said this makes for more than 875 levels of gameplay and users have cut more than 60 billion ropes at a pace of 42,000 per minute with almost 20 billion candles having been given to Om Nom.

That all being said, while ZeptoLab has in the past released games for both Android and iOS, we have yet to see if this new Cut The Rope 2 release would arrive for both platforms at the same time or if one or the other will have to wait a bit longer. Either way, the rollout is said to be coming this winter.

Google+ RAW to JPEG image conversions improved
Sep 26th 2013, 13:59, by Robert Nelson

Google has been steadily improving the image experience for Google+ users over time. These changes have come in the form of features called Auto Awesome and have touched on the desktop and mobile sides. As of today however, it looks like Google has some good news for those shooting in RAW — improved RAW to JPEG conversions.

Google+ has had support for RAW images for just about a year now and as it had been, anytime you view one of those RAW files it is automatically converted to JPEG. This was done in an effort to optimize the file size and also to generally keep things speedy and fast even for those who may not be on a super fast connection. Well, it now looks like these conversions have been improved.

In fact, Ronald Wotzlaw, who shared these details on Google+ has said these conversions have been “significantly improved.” While we will leave that up to the users to decide, what we can say is this support has arrived for more than 70 different camera models including some from Canon, Nikon, Olympus, Panasonic and Sony. And as one would hope, there was also the promise of more camera support coming “over time.”

Those uploading RAW files will be able to then edit the JPEG copy as often as desired which leaves that originally uploaded RAW image clean, untouched and available for download when/if that would be needed. With that, those camera models include the following;

  • Canon EOS: 100D, 1000D, 1100D, 1D Mark III, 1D Mark IV, 1Ds Mark III, 1Dx, 20D, 30D, 350D, 400D, 40D, 450D, 500D, 50D, 550D, 5D, 5D Mark II, 5D Mark III, 600D, 60D, 650D, 6D, 700D, 7D, M
  • Canon Powershot: G12, G1X, S100
  • Nikon: 1 J1, 1 J2, 1 J3, 1 S1, 1 V1, 1 V2, Coolpix A, D300, D300s, D3000, D3100, D3200, D4, D40, D40X, D5000, D5100, D5200, D600, D700, D7000, D7100, D800, D800E, D90
  • Olympus: OM-D E-M5, PEN EP1, PEN EP2, PEN EP3, PEN EPL3, PEN EPL5
  • Panasonic: LUMIX DMC GF1
  • Sony: Alpha 700, NEX-5, NEX-5N, NEX-6, NEX-7, NEX-C3, NEX-F3, RX1, RX100, SLT Alpha 55, SLT Alpha 77, SLT Alpha 99

Samsung has confirmed the US launch details for the recently announced Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition tablet. But perhaps more important for today, Samsung has offered up a price and release date.

This model tablet will be available in a 16GB and 32GB capacity and the price will be $549.99 and $599.99 respectively. Those considering a purchase should know the tablet will be available beginning on October 10th with pre-orders coming on September 27th. And as we often see with Samsung devices, the Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition will be available with a wide variety of retailers including Best Buy, Amazon, Walmart and more.

Samsung will have this one in Classic White or Jet Black and as we learned during the original announcement, the specs will include a 10.1-inch display with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 and quad-core Exynos 5240 processor. This model will also have 3G of RAM along with a microSD card slot, 2 megapixel front-facing camera and 8 megapixel rear-facing camera with auto-focus and an LED flash.

Of course, being a Galaxy Note device you can also expect to find the S Pen, which in this case happens to have what Samsung is referring to as an “enhanced set of S Pen features.” Some of these goodies include Air Command, Action Memo, Scrapbooker, Screen Write, S Finder, Pen Window and as many are likely familiar with — S Note.
