Another day and another rumor about the unreleased Android 4.4 KitKat operating system we know very little about. Perhaps shedding some more light on what’s to be found once the update is available, MobileSyrup is citing a report from Jessica Lessin that describes some of the improvements we can expect in Android 4.4.
One of the most notable changes to Android 4.4, according to the report, is that it will bring an easier upgrade path to low-memory devices from OEMs such as Huawei and ZTE. By making Android 4.4 KitKat less resource intensive on the lower-end market, the theory is that OEMs will take the time to bring the latest version of Android to recently released smartphones. Again, this is all in theory. A lot of work and resources have to be dedicated to such an upgrade, and OEMs may decide the bottom-tier devices just aren’t worth that type of investment. Then again, who knows, maybe they’ll jump at the opportunity. Only time will tell.
Also notable is the addition of better support for wearables, which as you know Google has already entered with Glass, and plans on entering again really soon with its own watch. Bluetooth and NFC improvements, along with the groundwork for KitKat devices to counts steps and track movement should all help out in that department.
