Sony CP12 Power Cover ready to protect and energize your Xperia Z Ultra
Oct 4th 2013, 02:37, by Juan Carlos Torres

One of the problems that plague devices with novel sizes or shapes, such as the 6.44-inch Sony Xperia Z Ultra, is the dearth of accessories fitted for the device. But owners of the giant phablet need not worry as Sony has just outed the CP12 Power Cover, which might just be the only case you’ll ever need.

Announced last June, Sony’s current darling truly puts the “tablet” in phablet, with a 6.44-inch 1080p display, powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 and 2 GB of memory and a 3000 mAh battery. That said, the phone is also extremely slim, only 6.5 mm in thickness, making owners surely anxious about the device’s safety. Fret not as Sony has just the right case that offers not only protection, but a few useful features as well.

The Sony CP12 is a flip-style case which, like most cases of that type, can also double as a desk stand when folded in a landscape orientation. However, the case also hides a 3000 mAh battery inside, offering the tablet a extra life at a touch of a button on the case. Sony is also throwing in a special EC21 charging cable with a magnetic connector that will allow charging both the Xperia Z Ultra and the CP12 batteries at the same time. What’s more, there is also an extendable aluminum stylus included in the package.

There is no price tag yet attached to the Sony CP12 Power Cover and it seems to be available only in black. The case does seem to add a bit of thickness and probably some heft, but those might just be worth the sacrifice for the features that it provides.

HTC Q3 2013 financial report reveals 6.3% loss
Oct 4th 2013, 02:04, by Juan Carlos Torres

Things seem to looking really bad for HTC. Although not as bad as its predicted 8% loss, the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer has just reported a financial loss of 6.3% for the third quarter that ended Monday. This, together with other figures and activities, or lack thereof, could spell big trouble for the company.

Things haven’t always been like this for HTC. It’s popularity and its market shares surged around 2010 and peaked to 10.7% in 2011. However, it has no sunk to lower than 4.3% according to Gartner. The company is experiencing some tough competition not only globally against the likes of Apple or fellow Android smartphone maker Samsung, but even in its home region where it has to take on ZTE and Xaiomi.

In August, HTC embarked on a quest to redefine its image and propel it back into the spotlight, even employing the persona of Robert Downey Jr in its viral marketing campaign. Unfortunately, we have yet to see the fruits of its’ “Here To Change” thrust. And it should do so quickly, as reports are showing that HTC has lost 90% of its value since 2011.

The financial loss of HTC for the third quarter amounted $101 million on revenues of $1.6 billion, quite a substantial loss for an already struggling company. Fans of the company’s smartphones, such as the HTC One, One Mini, and maybe even the delayed HTC One Max are surely hoping that HTC can recover in time before it ends up like BlackBerry and Nokia.

Nexus 5 rumored to launch end of the month, will be as beefy as the iPhone 5s
Oct 4th 2013, 01:23, by Juan Carlos Torres

This is the month that most are expecting Google to not only divulge the sweet goodness of Android 4.4. KitKat but also finally reveal to the world its much anticipated Nexus 5 smartphone. We’re now getting word that the latter won’t happen until late October.

Speculation about Google’s next smartphone started way back but really started to pick up when an unidentified unit was sighted in a video early last month that unveiled the next Android version. Although recent rumors point to a mid-October launch date for both Android 4.4 and the LG-made Nexus 5, sources close to Google are now saying that it won’t happen at all until the last week of October.

These sources are also ambiguously remarking that the Nexus 5 will match the iPhone 5s. We’ve already seen a benchmark that proves that the Nexus 5 can stand head to head with the iPhone 5s in graphics performance, so we’re wondering if there’s more to that statement. Could it mean that the Nexus 5 will also be sporting a highly-debated 64-bit processor, which Qualcomm has recently labeled merely as a marketing gimmick? Or will it have a dual processor setup similar to that of the iPhone 5s and the Motorola Moto X? We’re not sure yet, but we’ll definitely hear more about this in the days ahead.

The Nexus 5 is also being tipped to cost half as much as the latest high-end iPhone, which should put it right around a $430 price range, at least for a 64 GB storage capacity option.
