Archos platinum tabletsARCHOS, the French smartphone and tablet manufacturer, has released details of three new tablets for its Elements series. The new Platinum tablets all come with quad-core processors, dual-band Wi-Fi, 8 GB of storage, run Android 4.2 Jelly Bean  and include the normal Google Apps such as Google Play. The new tablets are the ARCHOS 97b Platinum HD, the ARCHOS 101 Platinum and the ARCHOS 80b Platinum which have 9.7 inch, 10.1 inch and 8 inch displays respectively.

At the heart of the new tablets is an unnamed quad-core Cortex-A9 based processor running at 1.6Ghz built using a 28 nanometer process. The SoC is said to include a quad-core Mali 400 MP4 GPU. Although unconfirmed that sounds like the new RK3188 which Rockchip announced earlier this year.

ARCHOS 97b Platinum HD

The ARCHOS 97b Platinum HD has the best specification of the three new tablets and includes a 9.7 inch 2048 x 1536 IPS display and 2GB of RAM. It also features a 2 MP front camera along with a 2 MP also on the back. The ARCHOS 101 Platinum is bigger and packs a 10.1 IPS display, but it has a lower resolution at 1280 x 800 pixels. It also has 2 GB of RAM and a 2MP back camera, but only spots a 0.3 MP camera on the front. It also includes GPS, something missing from the other two. The smallest of the three is the ARCHOS 80b Platinum which has an 8 inch 1024 x 768 IPS display, 1 GB of RAM and the same 0.3 and 2 MP camera as the 101 Platinum.

All three tablets also have Bluetooth, a micro USB port, a microSD card slot, and a mini HDMI port. There is no official word on pricing but there are a few online sites which are starting to take pre-orders. Adorama.com currently lists the 97b Platinum for $299 while J&R is offering the 80b Platinum on pre-order for $199 and the 101 Platinum for $269.99, also on pre-order. The official ARCHOS online shop doesn’t yet list the new devices.

What do you think of the new line-up, tempted to get one?
