Motorola's CEO Dennis Woodside said during the Moto G announcement event that its flagship handset, the Moto X, will be updated to Android in a “matter of weeks.”

While the exec did not specify an actual launch date for the Moto X Android 4.4 KitKat, we're actually not surprised to hear that the update will arrive soon. After all, Motorola is a Google company, even if Google is still supposed to be treated like any other Android OEM.

Furthermore, we have already seen a working Moto X Android 4.4 KitKat unofficial ROM get leaked a few days ago, so we definitely expected the official update to be close.

Woodside shared more details about the Moto X, although he did not mention actual sales numbers during the show – a few days ago, a report suggested the company only sold around half a million units since launch. But he did say that the reception for the Moto X has been fantastic and added that Motorola noted a spike in sales recently, after Moto Maker arrived on multiple carriers.

As for the Moto G, the new super affordable handset coming from Motorola will ship with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on board, and will be updated to KitKat in early 2014.
